Easter Fireplace at daughter's (love the bunnies!)
Hope everyone had a good Easter...
We drove down to our daughter's place in the Hill Country to have a private family get-together and memorial for our 17 year old grandson who died recently in an accident in California. It was wonderful having us all together despite the sad circumstances. We had a delicious Easter Brunch at daughter's house and spent the weekend talking and reminiscing. First time in a long time that all of us were together in one place.
Took numerous pics and videos... too numerous to show here. Some are pretty funny trying to get everyone to pose in certain spots and set the camera to take it while daughter ran in to get into picture... or dog ran off and then ran back. Apparently you can take a video and then stop it to make a fixed photo from the video (who knew?).
Anyway, I will post one taken outside. We took several group shots, inside kitchen, by pond, and this one.
DH and I are in the middle with youngest son and granddaughter in front of me. Then on the right is our daughter, SIL, and oldest granddaughter. And on the left is oldest son, DIL, and his older son (his younger son is the one who passed recently).
As I said, we took lots of pics as who knows when we will all be together again. One of the silly pics we took was of me on their tractor. They have 8-10 acres with horses, dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, and land turtles. And SIL grows veggies, trees, and other things - which he hopes to turn into a business one day (after retirement).
And no, I didn't drive it (tho I could have). Daughter drives it all the time.
Easter Monday everyone headed home, but me. I jumped in the car with my oldest son, his wife, and 2 dogs and we headed to his place in Mission, TX for a few days. It's a really lovely area, with palm trees and a state park... close to the Mexican border... great birding area! I spent most of my time laying out in his backyard by the pool, bird watching, and playing with his 2 Golden Doodles, but we did visit Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park and birded with other birders.
My slippers and pj's of course... in son's backyard.
Flew home from Mission on Southwest Airlines this past Saturday. Haven't flown since before the pandemic (did wear my mask). And it was fine. Truth be known, I love to fly... just not very fond of airports (too loud and crowded).
Home the feral cats and kittens are loving the Easter grass in our backyard. We will have to mow it soon as it's getting really high... but they love playing around in it... so we've put off cutting it till this coming weekend. Here's a pic:
If you're still with me, I'm going to post a few memes that I like:
(I already do all these things... but need to work on the hair)
and
Oh, and I took some pics and a rain video from my daughter's porch Easter Sunday. I love the view sitting on her porch drinking my coffee... and listening to it rain.
And rain video:
I could fall asleep to the sound of this rain video... (remember to enlarge it to get a better view by clicking on the arrow and then the small square)
Hugs (virtual),
Rian

Rian, I hope you know how much you've been missed. I've been thinking about you everyday. I'm so sorry about your grandson, can't even imagine how that feels. But it's wonderful how you and DH surrounded yourselves with love & family. Your daughter's fireplace is beautiful, you looked AWESOME on that tractor, and your son's place in Texas looks like a little slice of heaven. I really enjoyed that rain video, thank you for sharing and welcome back.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dug. It was a good visit... and hopefully good for all. As for the rain video, I may use it tonight in place of the sleep one that Zepp sends me. I love visiting my kids, but home is home and always good to return. Twin girls next door (ages 11) fed the feral cats and crows for us. It was their first paying job... and they loved it.
DeleteI love the sound of rain! I am so sorry about the loss of your grandson. Seventeen - what should be the beginning of life. I am glad your family was able to gather in fellowship and reminisce.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miss Merry. It was a good gathering. Years ago my sister lost her 17 year old son to Leukemia. It was hard on my oldest then (they were the same age)... now losing his own son at 17 is unbelievable.
DeleteSo sorry for losing the grandson so young. Your photos and tours are nice. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda. Hope you had a nice Easter.
DeleteGood to have you back. I love the sound and scent of rain - and am so glad that you got that much needed family time.
ReplyDeleteLove the cats in the grass too.
Good to be back... although it was good for us to be altogether. Love the sound and scent of rain also, but never like driving in it.
DeleteI'm glad you were all able to be together; such a bittersweet trip. I, too, love the pics of you on the tractor! I also love that second meme, that's a keeper.
ReplyDeleteI hope this new month is a gentle, peaceful one for you and your family. 💕
Yes, Kim... that second meme says it all.
DeleteIt looks like it will a wonderful visit, even though the circumstances of losing one so young was sad. I love all your pictures and memes. That cute feral peeking over the grass is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteDJan, the cats and kittens love the tall grass. Wish we could keep it, but it will have to be mowed soon.
DeleteYou do look like a natural tractor driver, and not one bit like your favorite witch who does everything you do except her hair! Sorry for the loss of a young family member, and it was a good thing to have a memorial for him. Welcome home and the kitties in the grass must be amusing.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I have thought about doing something a little 'wilder' with my hair... not as wild as that pic though. The memorial get-together was good for all of us. And the backyard wildlife has been entertainment for us for 40 years.
DeleteAlthough the reason was sad, it was lovely that you were all able to get together. Hopefully the next meet-up will be for a much happier reason.
ReplyDeleteDo I see Easter eggs in the grass? I bet the kittens are having fun.
Yes, Mae, we put giant Easter Eggs in the high grass. Sometimes the cats play around with them...
Deleteyour grandson's death was tragic, but today's post still holds a lot of joy....and i am so happy for your family that you were all able to be together!! your daughters mantle is so pretty, i would LOVE to see what she does with it for christmas!! it sounds like easter was fun, you have a beautiful family. i really enjoyed seeing you on the tractor, you should have gone for a ride!! heheheh!! your son's yard is really gorgeous and i LOVED the rain video. i too enjoy the rain and often sit outside when it rains, i find it very relaxing!! rabbit - rabbit!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, my daughter was in Interior Design and she loves home decor. She's constantly repainting and redecorating or remodeling... at Christmas she has Christmas trees and more all over the house. Our Easter get-together was good for all of us - to talk about what happened, ask questions, and just reminisce. As for the tractor, I was just being silly. And I love having coffee on the porch when it rains. Rabbit! Rabbit!
Deletei like when you are silly...be sillyer!!
DeleteSo very sorry to learn the loss of your grandson Rian, my heartfelt condolences, to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the reason of the get together was a sad one, everyone looked like they were having a grand time, supporting each other in their grief.
You look like you could definitely drive that tractor 😄
Hugs,
Jo
Thanks, Jo. It was good for us to be together and share our feelings...
DeleteRian, I am sorry to hear about your grandson. That is so very sad. Getting together with loving family helps us get through these hard times. You have a wonderful family. Oh my goodness, I want a mantle just like your daughter's. All the bunnies! It is simply beautiful! While watching the rain video, I was hoping to see a bunny hop past. :) Glad you had such a nice visit with family. I am still searching for a playmate for Randall Rabbit. Hard to find a large spayed female. :)
ReplyDeleteShe does have a stall full of bunnies in her stable... all female... and there is one black bunny... male... that runs loose on the property (he hangs around the stall a lot). I may have a pic of him, will check.
DeleteHello Rian, I’m not back to blogging yet. I just returned from that 3 week trip to Japan and have to go off on another trip to Chicago to see my granddaughter graduate from high school. I’ll be back in June. Hopefully.
ReplyDeleteI'm so very sorry about your grandson. That is so tragic. I'm glad you were able to get together with your beautiful family.
Thanks, Kay. Hope to hear all about your travels when you get back to blogging again!
