Thinking that I should post about my first Pulmonologist visit. DH and I went this morning. I liked him. He is older than I expected, but definitely younger than me. Seemed very thorough... went through and showed me CD pics of my lungs on his computer. Asked me questions. Showed me how the 'nodules' in my lungs have changed... sometimes larger, sometimes smaller over the years. That in itself seems to be the indication that it isn't cancer (hurray!).
But they could be due to a lung infection, inflammation, or even aspiration, etc. He is running some tests. I have coughed for over 20 years and was told it was probably a radiation cough (meaning the radiation I was given for my BC likely causes some irritation or scarring in my lungs). I've never been too worried about it... just accepted it as another 'inconvenience'. But lately it has gotten a bit worse as I can't talk too long (especially on the phone) without having a coughing fit. I use Luden's cough drops by the bags. They work.
So that's where we are. Said the tests may take some time. Some bacterial cultures are very slow growing. And he's also having me take a home sleep apnea test. I took one at a facility years ago, and was told that I was fine. But I still get episodes (not every night, but often enough) and my smart watch tells me almost every night that I have mild to moderate hypopnea. So, we'll see.
Now back to my currently piddling/trivial ramblings...
Feral kittens playing on back porch and in high grass. Silly squirrel trying his best to get the seeds out of the bagged finch feeder. Crows cawing for their peanuts! And now we have ducks walking across our front lawn! That's our life and we do enjoy it.

We did walk at the Senior Center on Monday. Walked and stopped in the cafeteria for coffee. It has been a while since we were there. I need to either volunteer to work in the cafeteria or the plant area and/or take a watercolor doodling class offered this summer. My problem is that since the pandemic and being home so much, I'm afraid I've become a bit commitment-phobic.
Also a funny thing happened last week (twice actually). DH and I were walking out of Central Market when this woman said something to me. I didn't catch it (didn't have my ears in), so I said, "Pardon?" She then said, "Cute Couple.... are you newlyweds?" DH and I laughed and he said, "57 years". She said, "How wonderful". Well, 'that was odd', we both said when we got into the car.
Then the very next day we were checking out at Walmart's (where they check your cart and receipt) and since we use 2 baskets, I always go first and hand them the receipt and say, "we're together" as we go out. This time the checker said, "Really... how long?" And again DH said, "57 years". Then she said, "Don't see that much anymore". Again when we got into the car we looked at each other and I said, "...must be notice old folks week?"
That's about it. Will close with some memes or sayings that I like. If I've posted them before, forgive me...

I'm glad you got some information, if not the complete results. Good luck with the tests.
ReplyDeleteThe kittens are adorable. I wonder what they would think of the ducks? :)
Thanks, Mae. The kittens are hesitant around other cats... but do sneak up on birds and squirrels (although the squirrels are as big as them). Don't know what they would do around the ducks... but right now the ducks are in the front and kittens in the back.
Deletei'm glad you liked your doctor, finding a good doctor, that you like, is not always easy!! funny story about "being together" we often get asked that. "are you together" and i always reply 47 years and i have a medal to prove it. people often ask what the secrete is. i always say "compromise, commitment and cupcakes" - i usually get a good chuckle, but there is so much more to it!! great memes today!!
ReplyDeleteYes, Debbie, it is good to like your doctor... And as for your 'secret' for being together, your answer isn't too far off... except I would have to say 'pie' over cupcakes.
DeleteRian, the visit with the lung specialist sounded positive, but I didn't know about the chronic coughing. My gosh, so sorry. I enjoyed the tiny video, your backyard is such a treat! And that was wonderful to hear those 57 years stories. That's remarkable! But I remember those wedding photos of yours so I almost feel like I was there. Anyway, good memes and good to hear from you, my dear friend 🙂😽😽😽😽
ReplyDeleteDug, the chronic coughing gets a bit annoying, but let me tell you, I could clear an aisle in the grocery during the pandemic - and apparently still keep the seat next to me free on a plane (so there are some advantages - ha!). And our backyard has kept us, kids, and grandkids entertained for years (but since we're all nature lovers, animal lovers, and bug lovers (youngest granddaughter), it works.
DeleteGood luck with the ongoing medical tests.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the memes and the funnies. My inside voice is very critical - I have to monitor how much of it I listen to and take on board.
EC, my inside voice (or gut) has never done me wrong. And believe me, when it comes to our new US president (hard to even type that), all the red flags, bells, whistles and sirens are going off...
DeleteI am glad to hear that the tests will probably confirm that you are just fine. And I love the video of the cats playing. I don't remember seeing those funnies before, and even if you did post once, they are so good that a second viewing is worth it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan. The cats and kittens are fun to watch. And just heard that we have a new Pope! And it sounds like Pope Francis would like this choice...
DeleteI wish you all the best. Finding a doctor these days isn't easy...Finding one you like is even harder 😕 Your illustrations and quotes are very much appreciated 🙂 😊
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda. Many of our doctors that are our age have retired... so the few new ones we've gotten have been younger... but so far, seem very thorough and friendly.
DeleteI'm glad your cough is not likely to be cancer. Best of luck with the remaining tests and the results. I'll be curious, actually, as I've had a chronic cough for years, something I've always chalked up to sinus and allergy issues, plus the GERD. So it's helpful to me to be aware of other possibilities.
ReplyDeleteThe feral kittens were having fun, so sweet. Oh, Finn, Jake, Carla, and George all have homes in the complex. The boys get spoiled by a few of us, not just me. 🙂
Kim, GERD may be part of my problem too. I do cough after eating... but I cough at other times too when no food or drink is involved. And possibly it's some sort of allergy or sinus drip, or whatever. But it did start not long after my radiation treatment... so, who knows. And I thought the cats you pictured were probably not homeless as they all looked pretty well cared for... and nice of you guys to spoil them.
DeleteI really like the last quote. My wife and I have noticed how many more people hold doors open for us now that we are older. I wish you the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John. I've heard 'that' (holding doors open, etc.) called "the old folks perk".
