This is what we usually eat on Mother's Day or on our Anniversaries, etc. at a favorite Italian restaurant. But this Mother's Day was a bit different. I will confess that I thought of going out to a restaurant near us for brunch, but didn't really think about it seriously until Friday - and when I tried to make a reservation, they were booked solid.
But this was okay as I don't mind a quiet celebration at home - and this way I don't have to get dressed up or put make-up on. I have to admit that I'm not fond of make-up. It does make one look better, covers wrinkles and brown spots, etc. - but I just feel 'more like myself' without it.
Anyway, I decided to make home-made French Toast (mama called it Lost Bread) for us this morning (using sourdough bread so I could eat it too). It was delicious! Should have taken a pic, but I forgot.
And decided on Whataburgers for supper tonight! They are not gluten free, and I eat only a very small part of DH's. I'm not a big burger fan... but I do like these!
And now I will show you what I did get for Mother's Day... new plants for my front windows! They're both Bromeliads and were on sale half price at the grocery for Mother's Day:
Now my front windows look like this... and I love it:
And so, Mother's Day 2025 has come and gone. It's 10 PM. Kids called, texted, or visited. Went for a lovely walk with granddaughter and DIL down to the stables. Temp today was 75 and quite pleasant. However, I heard it may get to triple digits by the middle of this week (yuck!).
Also watched the kittens play in the backyard, had a visiting possum come by this evening, and DH saw a baby squirrel eating from the cat food dish this week. We have many squirrels, one big fat obese one... but don't see many young ones on their own.
And these Mother's Days never pass without thoughts of our own mothers (no longer with us)... and doubt if there are any that don't think of them and whisper a quiet "Happy Mother's Day, Mom" in their hearts...
Happy Mother's Day All!
Hugs (virtual),
Rian
Happy Mother's Day, Rian! Well, your french toast and whataburger sounded delicious (I've always wanted to try one of those burgers but no franchise near me). I love your plants, they just look beautiful. Your day sounded just right. :^)
ReplyDeleteIt was nice, Dug. I love my plants... would like my front room to be like a conservatory... bringing the outdoors in (but probably won't go that far). Hope you are feeling better and will be able to get out and about again soon.
DeleteI love to think of my own mother and think of how much I still miss her on days like these.
ReplyDeleteDJan, your mother was beautiful. Loved that pic you posted of her with you and your younger sister.
DeleteHappy belated Mother's Day, Rian.
ReplyDeleteIt was a quiet day here and we had our first barbecue burgers of the season (I did the grilling) and pasta salad (my daughter). Very yummy!
Thank you, Mae. Burgers seem to be the theme of the day this mother's day. Enjoyed mine!
DeleteSounds like a great Mother's Day. I don't wear makeup any more, but did carry some with me, in case there was a dressy outing when visiting my family last month. And I carried it home again, and still haven't taken it out of the baggie for traveling. I am concentrating mainly on skin care these days, using a moisturizer for the first time in my life.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I too use moisturizer daily... otherwise my skin feels dry, but make-up only for special occasions.
DeleteI like the idea of going out to eat much better than actually getting all fancy and going out to eat. My youngest daughter invited us over for burgers and I said I would come if no one took my picture - you know the makeup and nice clothes thing. Your French Toast casserole sounds delicious and all your plants are wonderful!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miss Merry. We love good home-made French Toast - the restaurants always make it too dry and taste-less. And I do love my plants! They make the room feel special.
DeleteYour front windows look great 😊 We had takeaways for tea on Mother's Day - I sent my hubby up the street for them, I was having a lazy day.
ReplyDeleteLazy days are good!
Deletebelated happy mothers day. you are mother to many humans and many fur babies. i picked up takeout food, moms favorite, and brought it to my moms and we ate at her house. she is 91 and has not been feeling well. the hubs does the same. i also hate makeup and rarely wear it. i saw some cygnets too, and posted some pics on my blog today if you would like to see them!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie. Sounds like a perfect mother's day for all. Hope your mom feels better soon. My mom was with us until 94. Is your mom in her own home ? And I did see the cygnets... so adorable.
Deletechecking in, i hope you are well!!
