love this pic... exactly how I want my front porch to look
I've been wanting to add on to the small front porch we have for years. The thought of being able to sit out there in the morning or evening with a cup of coffee and watch the world go by is No. 1 on my non-existent bucket list.
The porch is already covered, so all we need to do is extend the floor (cement or wood), add a fan and some hanging plants... and of course figure out how to landscape the area right in front (which is now covered in Nandina and holly bushes).
Just thinking about that this morning as I watch the crows and squirrels eat the peanuts we throw out for them each morning.
Oh, and we had the first box turtle eating with the kittens on the back porch this morning. The kittens were fascinated with him and followed him around for a while.
Next are 2 pics of a beautiful pink orchid and a Lego dinosaur that we came across while walking in the mall.
They had about 2 dozen of these set in rows (all colors)... but I took a picture only of the pink one. So pretty!
I thought this Lego dinosaur was really pretty neat. Cost was $250.00 (but not that neat!).
Haven't felt too good this week, and on antibiotics again... waiting to hear from my PCP on some test... and from the Pulmonary doctor for the results of another test. And was supposed to go to a sleep clinic and be tested (again) for Sleep Apnea this past Wednesday, but had to reschedule that since I didn't feel well. Feel OK today, so hope the results come in this week with some answers.
And lastly:
Sky-diving and fly-fishing are things I've always wanted to try, but just never gotten the opportunity (certainly never wanted to be a ballerina as that pic shows... not the dancing type). But now I wonder if the time has passed for these things...
Hugs (virtual),
Rian
(P.S: Thanks for reading. I appreciate you letting me share my thoughts with you.)

Might want to find one of those indoor skydiving places. They have a big fan that raises you up in a vertical tube. Attendants help nearby. Or, find a skydiving club or dropzone. Many take you up for a jump while being strapped onto the front of an experienced jumper. A cup of tea with some booze in it might be needed afterwards. Linda in Kansas (with 14 real skydiving jumps from my younger days.)
ReplyDeleteDM, I don't think those indoor skydiving places would do it for me... there's something about the 'free fall' that draws me. And my daughter and granddaughter have said that if I want to do a tandem dive sometime, they would do it with me. I watched my daughter do one several years ago. It looked fabulous!
DeleteRian, I loved that top photo--I know it's not you, but it still made me think of you. And I had to chuckle at the non-existent bucket list, love that too. :^) Wish we could've seen the feral kits following the box turtle, and I love that Lego dinosaur but yikes $250. And I'd say fly fishing is doable, but you might want to talk to DJan about the skydiving. Anyway, this was a great post and you are a dear friend. I hope your week ahead -and- your health are both very good.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dug. I could very easily be that old lady in the rocker on the front porch... and would like to be. And yes, fly-fishing is probably still do-able, but DH isn't interested and don't know anyone (except a cousin in N.O.) who could do it with me. The sky-diving is still a possibility (although I think at my age, you might have to have a doctor's OK). And I'll try to get a video of the kittens and box turtle next time.
DeleteWonderful post, Rian. Thank you so much for sharing 😊 ❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda.
DeleteI hear you on the too tired to do it - but am making an effort.
ReplyDeleteAnd am fortunately excited about many things (mostly small things) and grateful.
I do love reading your beautifully illustrated thoughts. Thank you.
Yes, we do have to 'make the effort'. And I know it is great to be excited about even the small things. I was excited today to get my new grow light I ordered from Amazon. My tall plants will love it!
DeleteWhen we decided to make this our "forever home", my request/demand was a front porch. It wasn't easy. Our city requires a full foundation under a roofed porch. My husband said "Do you know how much that will cost?" I said "I don't care". When we got to get a building permit (for the porch and the addition) we found that zoning would only allow a 4 foot deep porch. Nope. I had to file for a zoning appeal, wait for a hearing and plead my case. I won. In my dreams I would sit in my rocking chair with my coffee and sniff my lilacs. This involved having my large lilacs professionally dug up and moved. I don't know how much that cost either, there is no price on perfection. The lilacs died after being transplanted. Now the porch has been finished for many years and it is perfection. And worth every penny. Good luck with yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miss Merry, for the encouragement... and the scary thoughts about the building permit, etc. Didn't think of all that. I hope it isn't too big a problem or too expensive... guess I'll find out eventually.
Deletelove, love, love the first picture!! we have a deck that wraps around the back of our home and we get a lot of use out of it during good weather. i also love to sit out there when it rains, you would enjoy that as well. i take a lot of random photos during my travels, they often have no connection to one another, other than they caught my eye!! i have never been skydiving but would love to, the husband, not so much. we had been on 2 hot air balloon rides, they were awesome!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, my friend and I went to one of the hot air balloon festivals and watched them go up. That was neat. But I've never been up in one. I think watching the hawks soar overhead and glide through the sky is one of the things that make sky-diving so appealing... and the wonder of what 'free fall' must feel like.
DeleteI always love your posts, they feel like we are hanging out together and enjoying the company. I love that first picture and hope you get what you want with a front porch update.
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan. I feel the same with your posts. I'm planning on checking out my front porch remodel this fall. It will be too hot to even think about it now... even though it's just May (90-100 F here already).
DeleteI have discovered a fear of heights, at least when in or on a small area - and didn't chose to go on a ski lift gondola ride last month. Standing on a lookout area and looking into deep vast space to a good view of mountains doesn't bother though. Flying is exciting. But those tiny little places no thanks. So I won't be skydiving any time soon. However - if you want this, go for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, Barbara. Once I get all these tests finished and my 80th birthday over, I will decide the how and when. But as for being confined in a small space, I'm with you... a tiny bit claustrophobic.
DeleteI do hope the test results provide some answers (and good ones, too).
ReplyDeleteI chuckled at the thought of the kittens following the box turtle. Cats are certainly curious.
Your porch ideas are simply lovely, and I'll be watching to see when it comes to fruition.
Thanks, Mae. The porch plans are getting under way, but won't probably be started till the Fall.
