December 1, 2025 Rabbit! Rabbit! White Rabbit!

Rabbit! Rabbit! White Rabbit!

OK, December is here!  and the end of 2025!  (and we're all still here... so far... but I think it's been a scary year for many)

However, I'm going to focus on the magic of Christmas for the time being. I think we need to try to enjoy the season while it's upon us (with family, friends, food, decorations, etc.)

A few pics from our house:

Yes, it's a bit 'cluttered'... but we like it!

this was taken at the garden center where we get our live tree...

I won't put up any pics of the tree yet... as it isn't decorated, but DH has put the lights on. We have gone from 12 ft trees to 10, then 8, and now 6 foot is what we got this time. Not only for the difficulty getting them in and set up (at our age), but also for the ridiculously increased prices. We love live trees for the aroma and just the naturalness of it. But we may end up being priced out if this continues... or we may have to get a 4-5 ft real tree and put it on a table next year.

I don't usually post much on Rabbit! Rabbit! days, but I wanted to share a little of our Christmas decor so far...

... and also because I mentioned at some point (in a comment) about posting something in reference to the 1968 movie, "2001: a Space Odyssey". Someone brought it up in a comment on Apache Dug's post... and it reminded me of what happened almost 58 years ago.

DH and were married in January of 1968. The movie came out in April... and we went to see it in September (or thereabout) - I was 8 months pregnant with our first child at the time.

Do you remember the music to 2001? Well, it's very dramatic and  the baby inside me certainly responded to it. He almost kicked his way out during that movie. We thought about leaving, but didn't. Luckily he wasn't born for a few more weeks. But listening to that movie's music always brings back memories of that time and place... and confirmed that unborn babies certainly hear the sounds around them.

And the reason I'm posting this so late in the day is because DH and I went to the mall earlier today to do some Christmas shopping and I wanted to show you these 2 Lego pieces that were featured there:

full size adult Lego Santa!

and this black and white Lego Cat

How cute is that?

That's it! Try to stay warm (it's finally cold here - in the 30's).

Hugs (virtually),

Rian

  1. Whoa Whoa Whoa! The Lego Santa!!! FABULOUS I will be showing this to my grandchildren. How cool!
I am sure babies can hear music in the womb. And voices. But the music from that movie would be awfully exciting for them. What a great memory, especially since it didn't put you into labor!
    Your living room is lovely.

    1. Yes, we loved the Lego Santa and the Lego cat! And yes, it was obvious that my baby heard that dramatic music during the movie. He was kicking up a storm!

  2. Rian, you sure shared some great photos--your house is beautiful and you look in such great shape! I enjoyed your 2001: A Space Odyssey recollection with your pregnancy, and I had a small chuckle when you mentioned the accompanying music. You are too funny. And finally, that Lego Santa is blowing my mind :^)

    1. Thanks, Dug. I'm doing better with the eye... it looks almost normal... although still tearing up a bit with the blocked tear duct. Hoping it will heal on it's own and haven't been using the Rx antibiotic drops the doctor called in (but will if necessary). And yes, that Lego Santa and cat were both great and thought they were worth sharing.

  3. Loved seeing your cozy cheerful home with it's decorations. Yes, tis the season of joy, and we may have to work at it this year. But people have lived through wars and depressions, and still celebrated some kind of Christmas or Hanukkah. We can do it.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. The garden center where we buy our tree is beautifully decorated. We took our Christmas card pics there last year. This year I'm not sure I'm going to send cards. Seems like people aren't doing them much anymore.

The Lego Santa is fantastic. I bet that took some effort to put together.
    Happy December!

  7. I love the coziness (and symmetry!) of your decor! I agree that the price of trees has skyrocketed. Here, you can easily pay $99 for a tree. We managed to find one on sale for $60. It is still wrapped up tightly with plastic mesh, so it will be a surprise when we unwrap it. Hope it's a good one. -Jenn

    1. Yes, it's been a long time since we could get a live tree for that price... but we will just have to get 'smaller' as time goes by. Hope your tree turns out to be a good one! Actually, even the small 'Charlie Brown' live trees are adorable.
