a look around our house... and Happy Mother's Day!

Our AGA

It's obvious that I have nothing of interest to post... so, I thought I'd just post a few pics of rooms in our house.  Not terribly interesting, but I do enjoy seeing the insides of other bloggers dwellings, so maybe it's not too boring.

The two main rooms we live in are the kitchen and the front room. So, that's what you're getting. Both are a bit cluttered. I like to cook and thus, want things close at hand, so my counter space is limited... and I like to putter around with my art, books, and plants in the front room. Thus, it's not exactly a Good House-keeping showcase.

But we love it... and it's comfortable... and we've been here since we built it in 1985. It could definitely use some remodeling, but at our age, I doubt that we will do much. I would really like to run the small entry porch across the front of the house one day. Then we could sit out there in the morning or evenings and watch the walkers go by...

But first - the kitchen. It isn't large, but isn't small either. Half of it is the cooking area and the other half has a table and chairs, a cup cupboard... as well as a French door leading out to the back patio (the window to the feral world).

And of course the main part of the kitchen is the AGA, an old English stove that we fell in love with and bought years ago.  It's always on (no preheating necessary), .... no knobs... and has 4 ovens and 2 hobs.   Here's some pictures:

Kitchen from one side: These objects in front (burner and pancake grill) are not usually there

Kitchen from the other side:  Was cooking when taken (old pic)

Both these pics were taken years ago.  But nothing much has changed... except in this lower one, granddaughter has grown from 7 to 13 (pigtails to no pigtails - I loved those pigtails).

...and now for the front room:

I took pictures from different angles to get a better idea... but I do have books, blankets, my writings, magazines (mostly food ones) here and there... so, yep... a bit cluttered.

One more angle... to show where I sew/sketch:

and of course, there's my plants:

These are in the right hand corner of front room... with more in the left.  I hope to eventually cover the room with them.

And that's it.  Tomorrow is Mother's Day and the roses on the table are from my oldest son and his wife.

Happy Mother's Day!

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. What a beautiful home! And I love your stove!!!!!
I tell people we "live in our home". It's not a magazine house for sure. We have craft projects on the dining room table with library books and donation items in boxes on the chairs. There is a second kid craft table in the living room next to the table of papers I need to file. I have my own papers and books and crafts by my chair and my husband has a basket of stuff he is keeping track. We have a nice rug and tv stand with a wooden railroad in front (good thing we have a remote control and behind the couch is my child's wooden kitchen set that no one uses anymore, but I can't part with it. And the floor to ceiling book shelves on the longest wall with books I can't part with. But I do have some empty chairs if you want to stop over!

    1. I agree, Miss Merry. Our home is very much "lived in" too. I don't see any reason for having a house look like a museum, I want to enjoy every room... as long as it's clean, it can be a bit cluttered with things we love, memories, crafts, pictures, etc. And I'd love to stop over... probably virtually, but still fun.

  2. Happy Mother's Day to my dear friend Rian! Loved your pictures Rian, your front room just feels "Old South" and your kitchen is big and cheerful and you know how much I love your big blue Aga. Very nice!

    1. Thank you, Dug, I consider you a dear friend too. And I don't know if our home is "Old South", but I'll take that as a compliment. It may be a combination of Old South, British, Irish, and French... whatever it is, it's ours. And we love our AGA too! (if it's possible to love a kitchen appliance)

  4. REALLY beautiful home. Nope, not cluttered, but lots of room for projects. That stove is stunning. I can smell the baked bread, eh? Happy Mom's Day, Linda in Kansas

    1. Thanks, Linda. I'm afraid it is a bit cluttered... but cluttered with life, not with junk (or so it seems to me). The stove has been a godsend over the years. It warms the kitchen and is my haven (especially in winter). When we had inside cats, they gathered around it, and even the grandkids would sit on the floor next to it. But it's not for everyone as it does take a little different way of cooking.

    1. Barbara, you see them (AGAs) often on British TV.... and yes, it's a bit different to cook on... but not that different.

    1. Debbie, so sorry you've been in bed. Hope you are feeling better now. Is it your MS that has flare-ups or just a bug that may be going around? Whatever... wish you well and sending hugs and good healing vibes. We love our AGA too... we don't do much traveling (except to visit the kids) so, we splurged on the AGA years ago. It's kind of the heart of our home... keeps us all warm.

  9. oooooh the kitchen is the heart of the home and your kitchen "looks" so busy, cozy, and loved!!! my MS always flares up in the spring and often when the seasons change. this was a little tough but i have learned that i am tougher. i went out yesterday and it was just too hot for me. the hubs knew and he insisted i go home. i am missing my nieces birthday party today because it is outside and it is in the 90's here. i LOVE your stove...and your cozy home. thanks for sharing it here so i don't feel like a peeping tom!! many thanks for the well wishes!!!

    1. So glad to hear that you are 'tougher'... to be honest, it's obvious. But do take care... especially in the heat. I've been having a bit of issues lately... may just be age or may be my low B12. Going to get a B12 injection today.
