Grandbaby Christmas afternoon at our house... |
Christmas day was great fun. The kids and grandkids were here and after opening gifts (grandbaby wasn't sure exactly what all the excitement was about), we had a very untraditional Christmas Brunch... in place of the traditional Christmas Dinner... hot scrambled eggs with green chili sauce with honey baked ham on rolled tortillas and a variety of pastries and danish... as well as Christmas cookies and candies galore. And everyone took home a freshly baked rum cake as well as leftover ham.
As most of you know when you have a house-full of cats, they need to be confined when the food is set out.
If not, they will most definitely *help themselves*. So at about 10 am we started picking up cats and putting them into the master bedroom. Well, it seems that Ghost, the one who never shows her face when other people are in the house, decided to hide. And she is a great hider! We looked everywhere - and finally gave up. She would come out whenever... (certainly not when the kids and grandkids arrived or while they were here).
So... sure enough about 3 pm after the Christmas presents were open, after the Brunch was eaten, after all sat around in the den by the tree and talked and played, and after everyone had gone home and DH and I were sitting on the sofa drinking coffee - a little gray head appeared. Apparently she had been under the tree the whole time (right in the middle of all the festivities). Now we had looked under the tree... with a flashlight even! But she hid under the tree skirt - and there we hadn't looked. We named her Ghost because she is gray and was so hard to see as a kitten on our gray slate floors - but over the years she has definitely earned her name.

Going to close now. DH woke up this morning with a cough. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to check my right ear as it's been acting strange lately... hurt off and on a day or so ago... (and I've never had an ear-ache that I can remember), and now it seems to be popping in and out like I have a cold which I don't. Anyway, I'm going to have it checked - but if DH is still coughing, I may see if they will let him come with me and be checked also.
AND: I got a book by Dr. Wayne Dyers for Christmas and have been reading it today ("Wishes Fulfilled"). I have to say that his concept of Spirituality is very similar to mine. In this book, he talks about the Higher Self (the God within). I had read "There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem" some time ago and liked it. But this one seems to really be 'spot on' as the expression goes. If any of you have read it, I'd be interested to know what you think. I don't want to start any religious dialog, just curious to know what you think of the book.
I haven't read it, but I know of him. I'd be interested to hear what you think of the book. Hope all goes well tomorrow, and you find out what's going on with your ear. I get earaches and infections now and then, and antibiotics takes care of it. :-)
ReplyDeleteDoctor said no infection, cleaned out some wax, and said my lungs were clear. Said that I'm probably on the tail end of a bug, but didn't think I needed antibiotics now. She called in a z-pack for DH which she wants him to start now and called in one for me ... Just in case things got worse over the weekend.
DeleteGlad you had a good Christmas! I like the non-traditional foods, as I am not a turkey lover. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck re: your ear, hope not an infection.
Oh, and Nicki and Derry would not touch food on the counter--though Nicki does like ham!
P.S. I have seen Wayne Dyer on PBS fund-raising specials, but not read his books. I absolutely do believe in a higher self or god within--whatever you choose to call it. Not having a good opinion of religion--any religion--it continues to surprise me that I choose to attend services frequently (since the spring). I have come to understand, however, that it does not matter how one comes to god--whatever one chooses to call the creative source of the universe. I believe that it is all the same thing, we just use different names, have different perceptions. But the Energy is the same, IMO. :-)
Of our 6 cats, 3 won't touch people food and 3 love it...
DeleteAs for your comments on spirituality and religion... I pretty much agree.
I will check out the Wayne Dyer book, thanks.
ReplyDeleteHope you both feel better soon.
Happy New Year. Cait.
Cait, Do check it out. And don't let the title fool you... as it kind of put me off. It's more about understanding the God within us (our Higher Self).
DeleteI love that little ghost.
ReplyDeleteShe's no longer "little"... but we love her too.
DeleteLove the picture of the cat in the tree! Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. Everything's better with grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Nana. Christmas without kids I'm sure can be wonderful too, but Christmas with kids is 'something else' entirely.
DeleteWhat a joy to have grandbaby to celebrate Christmas with.....Your cat in the tree cracked me up....my Lucy is the same color as your cat and I threaten to get her a lighted collar....
ReplyDeleteDee, it is a "joy".... an unexpected one in this particular case, but definitely a joy!
DeleteAnd as for our cat in the tree, she cracks us up too... unless she pull the lights down (DH gets tired of re-stringing them).
I wish you a happy and healthy 2014!

I'm reading this on the 7th day of Christmas, Rian, still surrounded by all the decorations and cards. :-) I'm glad you had such a happy Christmas Day and wish you and your loved ones all the very best for the New Year.
