the view out my front door - iced trees are really pretty |
DH checked out back by the creek this morning. He said we did lose a few trees that had iced over and broke. The one you see in the front is so heavy with ice that it hits the ground, but we hope it will bounce up again when it thaws.
It will get above freezing today, so if the sun comes out - we may be on our way back to normal - although the weatherman says that it will keep dropping down below freezing during the night for a few days which may prolong driving difficulties.
Ice storms are beautiful but so dangerous. Power lines and poles collapse, trees will come down...obviously. Take care and do stay inside till your roads are safe again!
ReplyDeleteWe pretty much did stay inside from Friday till Tuesday. Some areas are still having problems and some schools are still closed, but for the most part... things are back to normal.
DeleteYour picture is pretty, but I know those icy conditions are no fun.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Olga.... pretty, but dangerous... especially to those who don't get it often enough to know how to handle it.
DeleteThis sort of weather is so hard on trees, and stresses them for their summer seasons. I hope this storm is brief!
ReplyDeleteWe may have lost a few in the back, but the one up front that bent to the ground with ice seems to be recovering.
DeleteA fairy land...even that poor little bird looks iced over. Take care....no slipping and sliding.
ReplyDeleteDee, it does look like an icy fairy land... and luckily that bird is not real... just a fake crow from Halloween 2 years ago. I liked how he looked out there and left him... to brave the elements. He's done rather well. As for the real birds, we have kept them well fed during the storm.
DeleteFreezing fog is something we're familiar with over here, but I really didn't think you'd get it in Texas. Basically if the temperature gets well below freezing and fog gathers, it will form ice on roads, cars, trees and anything else. Very dangerous to be driving in. That's a super photo but I hope the temperature will rise soon for you.
ReplyDelete"Freezing fog" is not a familiar term here, Perpetua. We get fog, but not the freezing part. "Arctic Blast" and "cobblestone ice" are also new terms for us. But now we know what they all mean... and would rather not have any of them. But things are basically back to normal now... in most areas. Since we don't get weather like this very often, it is extremely dangerous for those who take to the roads despite warnings.
