I have decided to finish working on the bowls that I started this semester. Then I will drop this class and re-register in the Spring under Continuing Education. And I plan to investigate getting hold of a pottery wheel so I can practice throwing at home. Who knows? Small steps...
Here are a 3 of the 4 bowls that I'm working on. Nothing special... just playing around with different underglazes. These are blue and green underglazes on Cinco Blanco greenware. I will fire these next week and then do a clear glaze over them... and fire again. So the tops will be colored and the bottom halves will be the natural fired clay.
And here's Julie... on the kitchen counter (I know... we try, but she's a stubborn lass).
See that look in her eyes... it's like, "yes... it's my counter too." |
BTW, anyone out there watching "The Outlander" - the new Starz series. It's been a while since I've read her books (Diana Gabaldon), but they were really a good read. I believe that she had 6 when I read them, but there may be a 7th out now (and there may have been some character spin-offs too). Anyway, we're really enjoying the new series so far.
Love the bowls and Julie wears the same smug look as all of mine while they stretch out on a table. What an adorable face she has. Well, good for you if you can give up cookies. I can't.
ReplyDeleteDeb, we're only giving up cookies for 2 weeks... then we'll cut back... at least that's the plan.
DeleteMy cat would jump onto the table to show me he was really mad about dinner being late. He has me pretty well trained.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm pretty sure that they all do (have us trained, that is).
DeleteThose bowls are really nice, especially for "nothing special." And the cat might allow you to share that counter with her, if you approach with the proper food, that is. :-)
ReplyDeleteJulie has taken the counter as her own private perch. She will leave if I *persist*... but comes back the minute I leave the kitchen.
DeleteIsn't it funny that cats like to go where we'd prefer they'd not. Even though we might scold, they know we don't mean it...really.
ReplyDeleteThe bowls are lovely. I'm not the least bit creative and I'm always envious of those who are.
Good luck with the diet. I have good intentions at the beginning of the week, but by the time Monday evening rolls around my good intentions go out the window. Too tired, too cranky and too hungry to care!
I think the trick is not to let yourself get *too hungry*. We'll see how things go by the end of this week.
DeleteLove the bowls! Hope you are able to locate your own wheel so you can continue this endeavor.
ReplyDeleteMy plan to drop this semester and pick up in the spring seems the best idea. And today I was talking to one of the women who have been doing pottery for a long time. She says for me to take the Saturday Continuing Ed class. It's full of people who *do their own thing*...
DeleteI, too, love the bowls! And I'm also envious of those who are creative. But I admit that I don't have the patience or discipline or focus to even attempt to learn.
ReplyDeleteMy boys aren't allowed on the counter in my presence -- ha! I hear them up there when I'm upstairs, and of course Nicki likes to knock things off. I give him his meds up there, though, and he gets treats up there right after, so now he has a reason to like to be up there. Julie already has her own placemat, all she needs is her dinner!
As for diet--good for you. Heck, if I ate only ONE sweet a day, I'd be golden! LOL.
Kim, that's not actually a placemat, but a dish towel where I lay dishes to dry. She likes it there because when we open the window behind the sink (when it's cool out), she can climb into the window and keep an eye on the outside cats.
DeleteI like the bowls;hope they come home to live soon.
ReplyDeleteCats like to be high. Does she sleep there, or just keep a watch out?
She sometimes sleeps on the counter at night.... not where she's pictured, but on the the end. And yes, she likes it because it is high, no one bothers her, and she can keep watch.
DeleteI predict A pottery studio in your home one day :)
