cats are such a big help...

Where's the good stuff?

These smell interesting...

As you can see our cats have always enjoyed grocery day. Julie likes to check out everything from the counter level, whereas the others are lying about on the kitchen floor either playing with the bags or trying to get their fat selves stuffed into one. I always tell them that they are a big help (whereas DH tends to tell them that they're "A PAIN IN THE A..." - but he does it affectionately).  I've had to cut the handles of many a plastic bag that Ghost has slipped her head into in order to keep her from getting caught and running about the house in a major panic as the *monster bag* hangs onto her.

This morning I was putting together a few packages to mail out and Tux was with me in the computer room *helping* of course.  He is such a sweet boy... but gets his feelings hurt quite easily.

When I went over to work on the computer, he immediately jumped up and grabbed my chair. If it were possible to type around him, I would... but it isn't. He's a big cat and doesn't ever sit still. He keeps circling my lap, slapping at the keys, trying to pull my hands towards him, etc. It's not that he doesn't get enough attention, but he's one that always needs more.

Come on... sit down, mom

and then when I hid behind the back (it's a high back swivel chair), he jumped up to find me!

You didn't fool me, mom

No, they don't fool easily.  Well, I've got to actually go and take the home-made granola out of the oven. My timer just dinged! This is straight out of oven. Has to cool for about 45 mins to an hour. It hardens as it cools. Then I'll break it into edible pieces. The maple syrup makes the house smell so-oo good. And all the toasted nuts (almonds, macadamia, and cashews) smell pretty good too.

And one more pic before I go on to do something constructive.  Ghost is lying on the bed with her puppy. I have to get a picture of that. But you can tell from her face that I'm *intruding*...

beat it, mom...

Have a great Sunday!!

Oops! Rose just jumped on bed. She used to be a huge cat, but now that she's 21, she's not so big anymore. We used to tease the other cats that if they weren't careful, Rose would sit on them. Now that's not much of a threat.

  1. Yes, cats are a great "help." :-)

Tux is like Nicki in the needy department. Bottomless pit of need sometimes. Ghost looks like she's got some sort of illicit affair going on with that stuffed dog. LOL. Kind of like Nick and the stuffed toy owl.

You're always making yummy-sounding (and looking) food. I'm getting a munchie craving now, thanks. :-)

    1. Tux is needy... and has cat-itude at times. If he's on my lap and Molly climbs up too, he goes off in a huff.

  2. Julie is so cute, Rian. I love the mischievous face. Does Ghost have a bit of siamese in her? The eyes...

    1. Julie is mischievous. She will do the*run, flip over, and start swiping* at you when she wants to play. As for "Siamese" in ghost... your guess is as good as mine. We found her on our back porch when she was tiny and she had obvious problems... meaning she's a little *off*... figured we'd better bring her in or she's not survive out there. Vets thought she wouldn't live due to some genetic kidney defects, but she does fine.

  3. Rose is 21? She looks very good for her age. My Sasha, who is only 14 1/2 has really gotten skinny in the past year or so. He still plays so is doing well.

I'm not sure which of the three is the most needy, perhaps Sami but she's more "I have to be in the same room with you all the time". Saku just demands cuddling when he wants it, which is often in the middle of the night.

My comments to the cats are similar to your DH when it comes to "helping" unload groceries.

    Have a great week!

    1. Rose has gotten thin in the last year also. But she eats well and gets around fine. What she doesn't do is keep up her fur as well as she used to do. She's long haired and we find she gets matted despite brushings. We may have to bring her in for de-matting - but hate to do it as she won't allow it without anesthesia - and with her age, I hate to have them put her under.

    1. It's funny, Linda. Lots of cats like bags, but I did have one that was scared to go anywhere near a bag once.

  6. Each a joy and a personality to contend with. Love how you characterized each cat...

    1. Rosaria, after years of working in the animal field, I've become aware that all animals (even birds to my amazement & turtles!) have their own personalities. Of course just like people, some have more personality than others...

  7. Love all the kitty photos! If I left granola bars on the counter, there would be kitty footprints in them. or they'd just be gone! Louise is a holy terror for stealing food. :)

    1. The 2 older girls (21 year olds) are my people food lovers, but it's mostly chicken or cream that they crave. As soon as I have either out, there they are right by my side.
