Took pic off the TV while Pope was giving his speech Wed morning |
Interesting times. I really like this Pope. I'm not a religious person although I was raised Catholic and taught by Catholic nuns. But (IMO) I am spiritual... and feel that this Pope is very spiritual. It seems that he can relate to the people on a very basic level... and not everyone can do that.
In general, I stay away from religion, politics, and other confrontational issues in my posts. Not because I don't have opinions, but because I'm not sure this is the place for that. This blog is about day to day life... and although occasional issues may pop up, confrontational issues are not on my agenda (and you're welcome to confront me on that).
Now on to mundane issues:
DH and I went on our neighborhood crime watch patrol ride-along this morning. We joined this a few weeks back and went to a meeting given by the Police explaining how this is done and what to look for, etc. It was very interesting. We were told what we can and can't do, how to report what we see, and basically how to be the neighborhood eyes.
Monday I spent part of the day taking tests at the Cardiologist's. Happy to report that my heart is in good shape... no problems seen. So whatever caused the chest pains is not my heart! So happy! The doctor mentioned other possible causes, but I told him that if it wasn't my heart, I wasn't going to worry about it.
And the bloodwork taken at my primary physician's came back fine also... except for my D3 being low. It's supposed to be 30 - 100 and mine was 14. Told them that I would start taking some over-the-counter Vitamin D... but didn't want to take the Rx 50,000 units... and I would try to eat fish and eggs at least twice a week (and a Vit D fortified milk).
And lastly, when we went to Central Market this morning for groceries, all the pumpkins were out on display...
Aren't they great?
I like this pope too, and I'm not Catholic or religious at all. I *love* that he came out and said yes, evolution is fact, that "god" didn't wave a magic wand (paraphrasing). He appeals very much to the common person, which the Church really needs to do if it wants to stem the tide of declining congregations in much (though not all) of the world. My $0.02. Also my $0.02: I can well imagine that many within the hierarchy of the Church do NOT like his push for reforms -- I suspect he's stepped on a lot of toes and pushed at petty circles of power.
ReplyDeleteAnyway.
GREAT news that your tests came back fine, no heart problems.
I'm not ready for pumpkins and fall and Halloween...even though I know today's the second day of autumn!
Take care.
I know what you mean, Kim. I'm OK with Fall, but definitely not ready for winter.
Deleteso glad your heart was not to blame, dh had a pancreatic attack after a huge hamburger and fries and can't eat anything fried, wonder if that's what you might have had? do we get vitamin D from the sun ? can you get ten minutes a day sitting outside ?
ReplyDeleteLinda, I have no idea what I had... but let's just hope it doesn't come back. And yes, we do get Vit D from the sun... but apparently not enough. Or possibly we don't absorb it as well as we age?
DeleteI'm also Catholic; taught by nuns and brothers. I don't go to church, wish I could have more faith but I'm still spiritual. I have vague spiritual feelings.
ReplyDeleteI like Pope Francis. He is a spiritual "Pope of the people". Maybe he can make a difference.
"... and the greatest of these is *love*" John, I think that religions all over the world are trying to get it right. If they kept this in mind, perhaps we'd have a better chance. IMO Pope Francis is a good start...
DeleteI think the Pope is an inspiration. And, I wonder if any of us get all the vitamins and minerals we need. My BFF would be so exhausted a while ago. I mentioned my doctor told me a deficiency of D causes that, and guess what. She was so deficient she had to take prescription doses. I still get by on OTC.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, I agree that we probably don't get all the vit and min we need. But I'm also a bit skeptical that we can get them from supplements. But I just started taking a chewable Caltrate... which has 600 mg Calcium and 800 units D3 (and no artificial sugars!). I plan to take 2 of these daily and while it won't give me the 5,000 units D that the doctor recommended, it's a start.
DeleteGreat news from the medical tests!
ReplyDeleteI have visited those genealogy sites but never get very far before the pay to find out kicks in. I just have not found out anything that made me want to pay to know more.
Thanks, Olga.
DeleteAs for the genealogy sites, there is info out there (or they suggest there is) that I would pay to know, but will keep trying to find it without paying first.
I learned when I first went to my doctor here and he took my Vitamin D level how important it is to overall health. I began taking a supplement when I learned that everybody who lives in the northern areas doesn't get enough. It made a huge difference in my overall sense of wellbeing, but I do take 5,000 units every day year round now. So glad to hear you're okay in the heart department. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan, it seems that everybody is low in Vit D... or at least that's been my experience lately. You would think that here in Texas, we'd get enough sun, but apparenty not... or possibly as we age, we don't assimilate it as well??
DeleteSo good to hear that your tests came back saying that nothing was wrong with your heart. So now on to doing the things that make you happy and satisfied. Can't beat that.
ReplyDeleteNo, Vic, you can't beat that!
