sitting here this morning...

As I sit here this morning thinking about what I could post today, I'm looking at my messy office with all the boxes stacked up from Amazon's purchases this year (they use really nice boxes and I find it hard to throw them away). Then there's clutter both on my desk and on top of the trundle bed. Most of these are things that need to be either thrown away or filed away. It seems I do a little here and there, but it comes back twice as strong (like the mail).

There's even a little Christmas in here that definitely belongs upstairs in the storage area. Sadly I'm just getting some of our Christmas put away... and putting out some Easter. My wooden bunny (wearing his face mask still) went on the front porch this week, wooly lamb went in the window, and a few ceramic or wood bunnies have take their place around the house.

Back to looking around this office, I see things that stand out... like a box of medical face masks and a box of vinyl exam gloves - both used when DH and I go out to the pharmacy to pick up his Rx. These things seem to mark this time in our lives... as does the Lysol spray and wipes that sit on both our kitchen counter and by the front door.

But for what it's worth, I do feel better these days about it all (the pandemic and the political atmosphere). I'm not sure that there's any real reason to - as it's really too soon to tell, but with the number of virus cases down and with President Biden in office (and with the spring season starting), things just feel more hopeful.

I listened to Biden's speech and liked what he said and how he said it. Now I know that there are people who don't like the man and I don't know if he will be able to do what he says he wants to do, but I find myself believing that he will sincerely try. Somehow we need to put aside all this political party separateness (it reminds me of the Catholic/Protestant wars in Ireland).  It breeds hate... and  no good will come from that.

What I took from Biden's speech is that he plans to concentrate on the pandemic and unity... and in my opinion, that's exactly what is needed now. There's lots of other important issues that must be addressed, but right now, at this moment, we need to work on stopping both the pandemic and this division.

On a totally different subject now:

Did you now that Sunday is Pie Day!

Everyone should make a pie this Sunday.

I plan on making either a custard or a buttermilk one...

old pic, color not good... but pie was!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Enjoy!

Hugs (virtual),

    1. Yes, I have broken down some of the boxes, need to continue to do that. And I really need to clean my wood kitchen cabinets too... but not today.

  2. That reminds me. I should take down my Christmas lights ... I wonder who turned Pi day into Pie day.

    1. I don't know. They actually had something on the news about it and they talked about both Pi and pie... but I'm glad because we love pie and I haven't the slightest idea of what to do with Pi.

  3. Ha! I will definitely indulge in a little Pie on Pi Day, and I too enjoyed listening to Biden as he told us his plans for the immediate future. I am hopeful, too. :-)

    1. It's good to be hopeful... and it's good to indulge a little on occasion.

  4. I think the house directly across from my apt building has a timer on their holiday lights, they took down the ones on their front porch but every night at 8pm a couple strings of lights on their roof come on until midnight. I like them, hope they leave them up awhile longer :^) Well Rian, I appreciate your optimism, I'm feeling it too... but only because we have a sane & decent man in the White House. I don't see unity happening anytime soon I'm sorry to say. :(

    1. We left the string of Christmas lights inside at the top of our stairs for the last few years. They served as a night light for our grandson... UNTIL the LEDS burned out about a week ago and gave off the worst chemical odor. We almost called the fire department as we didn't know at first what had happened and where the odor was coming from. Figured it out eventually.
As for the optimism, I agree that Biden has something to do with that... and as for the unity, I'm afraid you may be right... but praying just the same.

  6. Just went to the recycle center with my boxes. Boy to the pile up when you shop online a lot. I too feel some optimism these days with Biden in charge and the hold we are getting on Covid. May they both do as expected.

  7. ooo, I did not remember about pie day. Thank you for that!!

I don't even know when Easter is this year. I have gotten even more oblivious than usual. I can blame it on the pandemic even though I know it's not really that.

Biden struck a note of goodwill and compassion and I certainly can't find fault in that.

    1. I checked what date Easter would fall on to see if there was a possibility of us getting together with kids (since we missed last Easter). It will be two and a half weeks from our second vaccines. Thought we might get together... masked?

  8. I've kept the Amazon boxes too, but do have a corner in the garage under the work bench where I store them. They're just too well put together to simply recycle.

Hope you enjoyed your pie. I'm a lousy baker when it comes to pies so we did not. Take care, stay well.

    1. I know. They use nice sturdy boxes, don't they Mae? Pie is in the oven as I type... boys will enjoy it later.
