fun times...

new clay additions

Playing around with my clay this week. Decided to do a flat chicken (do chickens sun themselves this way as some birds do? Well, this cheeky chicken does!) He reminds me of 'flat Stanley'.... remember him?  Anyway, I also decided to sculpt a mama cat and her kitten. All pieces still need to be fired in a kiln, then black-birded, then fired again... and with the studio closed, I'm not sure when this will be be done.

All fun aside, we have decided that this coming week will be 'pre-spring cleaning time". There are some areas in this house that need some deep cleaning... and since we don't use outside help, the three of us will all have to each do our part.  And I'm slow and tire easily... so what used to take one day may possibly take the whole week. Fun fun!

And I can't remember if I've posted a pic of my oldest son's pup... but he's getting big! I may have posted a pic when they first got him around Christmas, but he has grown. His name is Winston and he's a Golden Doodle. He has such a sweet face.  But then I'm a sucker for almost all critters.

Winston now

I have a question.  Is it my imagination or does it seem that politics have become an everyday issue?  I'm so tired of hearing everyone's views. I know the answer - don't watch the news.  I do like hearing what is going on - but there's a limit to the constant barrage of political comments.

Couldn't politics be limited to just political channels so that those who enjoy listening to the constant battle could do so and those of us who don't could have some peace. I know some will say that it's sticking your head in the sand... but it's not that I don't want to be aware of political issues, I just don't want them thrown at me continuously. It's getting to be a bit much (or maybe it's just me).

Closing now.  Hope Spring is showing itself in your corner of the world. Enjoy!  (and please continue to wear your face masks)

Hugs (virtual)
Rian

  1. Your clay critters sure are cute, Rian--that cat is really good! Also, Winston would appear to have the perfect name... why is that? He does have a sweet face :^) As for politics, I am afraid it's become part of the new normal. To be honest I'm trying to wean myself off it a little by watching less MSNBC. It's hard, but if I don't try I'll go cuckoo. Well, hope your house turns out squeaky clean :^)

    1. Yes, I took the news alerts off my iPhone... tired on constantly being updated on things over and over again. My usual response to most are... "really? why do I have to know that?" As for the house being squeaky clean, there's little chance of that. But it will be adequately clean (less dust in high places).

  2. I love your little clay critters, especially the momma cat and kitten. What a cutie Winston is!

I tend to stick to Twitter and I can quickly scroll past the posts. I only read it twice a day too which helps reduce the bombardment.

    Take care, stay well!

    1. Mae, I have never used Twitter... and use Facebook only sparingly to see family entries and I too scroll past most political posts.

  3. No, it's not just you. At least I (for one) feel the same way!

    1. Good. Glad I'm not the only one. I don't remember life in the past so bombarded with political agenda.

  4. That Winston could really melt your heart!! For what it's worth, chickens do sun themselves, but they kind of splay themselves out on their side with one wing spread out. Quite frankly, they look dead when they do that! -Jenn

    1. Good to know that chickens do sun themselves... I thought they might. Not sure exactly how to picture what you mentioned (splaying themselves out on their side). But my silly chickens will do it flat out (looks like someone stepped on him).

  5. Deep cleaning sounds as inviting as a blizzard.

  6. My spirit lifted when I saw that you had got your pottery out again. It means that you are feeling better. I know what you mean about 'the situation' I feel nothing is as it seems and somehow we are being taken on some kind of ride. I don't watch the news or read newspapers as I think they are mostly telling you what they want you to believe. I keep my own council and try to make the most of each day. Keep potting, I like to see what you have made.

    1. Thanks, Briony. Sculpting the little critters does lift my spirits and make me laugh. As far as the news goes, I almost always listen and then think to myself... 'I really doubt that that's true'...

  7. Dear Rian, i don't pay much attention to the news, because of that nagging question: is what they're saying, even partially true? Think anyone with even a few brain cells knows the answer to that one.

    1. Yes, I understand Sue. It's sad that we can't believe anything we hear these days.

  8. Love those kittens and Winston is a cuddly looking fellow. We do have political channels which I avoid but then the rest while not quite as biased, still give us far too much info. Still waiting for some smart person to come up with the feel good news channel. Bet it would be a huge hit.

    1. I know, Patti. The news does occasionally veer off the daily shootings, car accidents, and political statements to show some good stuff. So they 'try'... I just wish they would avoid the political stuff altogether or at least show less of it. I'm happy to watch "Face the Nation" on Sundays and forget the daily news.

  9. I love the flat chicken! It really tells a story somehow.
Winston is adorable. He looks intelligent or maybe it's the name?
It is not just you. I find that I only need to watch the news for about 15 minutes because it's the same thing over and over all day long. When I want a sense of what is going on in the world in more depth I will watch BBC World News once in a while.

    1. Oh, Olga, I'm glad to hear you like the flat chicken. I do too, but thought it was just me and my odd imagination. He may influence some of his buddies to go flat... or assume some other weird positions.

  10. Winston is adorable. And so too are your cute clay critters. I limit the amount of politics I absorb, but you're right: it dominates the news and there's so much else going on these days. :-)

    1. "dominates the news" is a good way to put it, DJan. Enough is enough (for me anyway).

  11. Billions have been made by media hammering us with constant political news. When politics was interesting, I enjoyed it. Now it is used as my side, your side and hate in the middle. I have had enough. I just want to get though this pandemic and spend time with friends and family again, without any thoughts to what is going on in government. We are not sticking our heads in the sand, we just need a day without drama every now and then. I still care, I still have strong opinions, but what is important to me now is to hold my granddaughter and laugh with friends.

  12. Constant political comments are very tiring for me. Like you, I want to know what's happening but hate the sort of "nagging" politics.
I can do very little with housework now with my health issues. After about half an hour my energy is all gone, very frustrating. I might be forced to get some help.

    1. John, we had help in the house once (after some surgery) and I didn't like it... not only did they not clean as well as I could (once), but I found myself cleaning things myself in preparation of their arrival. But I do understand how health issues (and age) get in the way...

    2. You are right. It's a real dilemma. Also, my wife Lynette is sure they took some items, more sentimental than valuable.

  13. We don't do politics anymore, for the reasons you cite. But ... sigh, there's still spring clean.

  14. Chickens do dust themselves, and your's is so cute. Our hens use their wings to throw dust up on their back. It's funny. With all the rain, we were beginning to wonder if there would ever be anymore dust. No, it's not just you. We are so sick of politics. We watch the local weather then the TV gets turned off or Dan flips it to the Westerns. It is hard to know what is true or made up anymore.

    1. That's right, Henny. They may not be sunning themselves, but dusting! I forgot that chickens do that to kill parasites. Thanks for the reminder. They take dust baths!

    1. No... sadly we lost our last 2 cats during this pandemic. They were both 15. All our cats lived from 10 to 23 years... and we still miss them terribly. Thanks for visiting my site. I just checked out yours and left a comment.

    1. It's odd, Debbie. People have become so 'politically saturated' that it colors our everyday lives. It shouldn't as we all want basically the same things.

  17. I don’t think it’s just you. We are all (or many of us) getting utterly fed up with politics. Nothing much ever changes and politicians are nobody’s favourite go-to-for-advice-and-succour people.

It’s good that you have an art outlet for your creative energies. I like your little creatures.

Ohhhh, I'm in LOVE with Winston. He's beautiful. And, ya, work (both in and out) is a never ending duty! Don't get me started on politics ...biased as all it is.

    1. I agree, Anni. I always avoided big gatherings during flu season... and from now on I may continue to mask up during that time. Makes sense to me.
