When our daughter drove in last weekend, she brought some bars of dark chocolate with her (bless her... we love dark chocolate). This is a picture of one of the bars:
And I have to say that this is really good dark chocolate. It's 70% and that's about the highest percentage I enjoy. Once you get past that, it can be a bit too bitter for me. But this one has a good buttery taste and although slightly bitter for those who might not like to go there, I think it's pretty great. Just thought I'd share. The bars are a little expensive (somewhere between $12 and $20 each - but then it's not the type of bar that you would eat right off... just take a small piece every day or so).
I guess I think of really good dark chocolate like really good coffee or even good whiskey... in that you don't eat or drink it right down, but savor it.

Some pics of the kittens sleeping. Three are in the basket and the one little Siamese looking one is sleeping under the birdcage.
She is an awesome mama... watches over them constantly while they play, still nurses them although they do eat from the outside bowls, and cleans them while nursing.

My back is still giving me trouble. It's not something I can't deal with - as I do think it's my Spinal Arthritis - which is going to act up occasionally. However, it's going on 2 weeks now. One day it seems better, then it comes back. So I have made an appointment with my Spinal Specialist next week to see if he has anything else he can tell me.

Planning on making a blueberry/strawberry custard pie this afternoon. Will post a pic when done!
Never tire of those adorable kittens and always marvel at the lone Siamese.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, too high of a percent of dark chocolate can be bitter but the just right is perfect. Enjoy that treat. The pie looks awesome.
The pie is good... and I needed to use the blueberries and strawberries... but to be honest, I like it best as plain custard.
DeleteCute cats! The pie looks absolutely delicious - I'd be there if I could. Unfortunately the chocolate would like trigger a migraine, good chocolate usually does. :(
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your back specialist appointment.
Hi Mae, I get migraines too... luckily as I've aged they've become ocular... and not as painful as in previous years. Too much chocolate (and various other foods) will bring one on, but I've learned to avoid most of the pitfalls. Sometimes stress can do it too. Thankfully a bite or two of good dark chocolate doesn't cause me any probs.
DeleteMy grocery store carries good chocolate, up to 95 proof. I break off a little square and it lasts me several days.
ReplyDeleteYes, a bar of good chocolate can last us a week... and well worth it.
DeleteThanks for the Nann bread recipe. I make it sometimes too. I always have dark chocolate for Tony as a treat. Do hope your back improves.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Jocelyn. Thanks for visiting. And my back is already better... but I will keep my appointment with the doctor.
Deletei am not much of a chocolate eater but when i eat it, i prefer milk chocolate. the kitties are so adorable...
ReplyDeleteand i surely hope you get some help/relief with your back!!
Debbie, hard to believe that you are not a chocolate addict. Milk chocolate is good, but dark chocolate is so-oo good. But you have so many delightful activities to keep you busy, I kind of understand.
DeleteSorry to hear your back is still acting up. Keep me posted as to how it's going, while you must continue to show me pictures of those adorable kittens.
ReplyDeleteDJan, the kittens have kept us entertained these stay at home months. And I sometimes want to bring them inside (though it would be difficult at this stage if not impossible) or take them to the Adoption room at the Shelter - but to be honest, we can't do that to this mother cat. She is so absorbed in these kittens. I think it would kill her.
DeleteMmmm, yum to the chocolate and the pie! I had to give up dark chocolate a few years ago, gives me heartburn, but I do miss a good quality chocolate. Not as much as I miss cheese and sugar--especially raw honey--right now. LOL.
ReplyDeleteSweet, sweet kittens. ♥
Take care, I hope you get some good options for treatment and/or care for your back.
I don't know how you do it... giving up those things. But I do understand that if it makes you "feel better" to go without than to suffer the effects, then it's worth it.
DeleteMy back is better. It's been 2 weeks. Perhaps the inflammation (or whatever) has run it's course. But I will still keep my doctor's appointment this week.
the pie looks so yummy.
ReplyDeleteDH certainly thinks so... there is little left.
