a day of memories...

DH and I - 54 years ago

Today is our 54th Wedding Anniversary. Looking at this picture, it's hard to imagine that 54 years have passed since this day (however looking at us today, it's not that hard to realize - we're old!).

DH and I were both in our last year at LSUBR when we married. It was January 1968 and we had a few days between the end of classes and graduation, so we took advantage of that. Since we were in classes almost up to the date, my mom basically organized the wedding. We just had to show up...

I'm not that into these things, so it was great that my mom was. And she did a terrific job as everything was perfect... and fun (which I didn't expect - since being the center of attention has never been my thing - but the champagne helped).

Here's another pic in our 'going away outfits':

We weren't really going very far as we honeymooned one night in the French Quarter in New Orleans and then had to be back on campus for graduation.

After we graduated, we moved to Satellite Beach, Florida where DH had his first engineering job. We had an upstairs apartment not far from the beach and not far from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. This was 1968... so we were able to watch space shots  from our apartment... which was exciting.

We moved from Florida to Texas in 1971 with 2 toddlers... and had a third in 1973... haven't moved again... and probably won't.

The 3 kids are all married now and have families of their own. They all live fairly close (none more than a few hours away) so we get to see them all a few times a year. So... despite the pandemic, despite the toxic political atmosphere, and despite the fact that life isn't always perfect - after 54 years, it's still good... and I would do it all over again if given the chance.

Thanks for going down memory lane with me...  I could post lots more pics of kids, family, grandkids, and cats... but won't bore you with that (at least not today).

Stay well and stay safe!

Hugs (virtual of course),
Rian

Almost forgot to post a pic of our Anniversary cake...

  2. Happy anniversary! Being content, never mind happy, with someone for that long boggles my mind, and it makes ME happy to know that there are people in this world who do stay together, weathering life's storms. I wish you many more anniversaries to come.

    1. Thanks, Kim. We did weather a few storms... but came through OK. I'm not sure how many more anniversaries we will have, but hope there's a few more on the horizon.

    1. Thanks, Mae. I look a little out of it in that picture... but it might have been the champagne and very little food.

    1. We WERE so young, DJan... barely 22 both of us. But time sure flies, doesn't it? I would have posted a pic of us now, but all our pics lately are with masks.

  9. Rian, Happy Anniversary! I loved your wedding photos, what a great looking couple you two were, and you were a beautiful bride! Loved your "just married" outfits and reading about those early years, those early years sure were exciting times! I wasn't old enough to be married in 1968, but I remember those years very well and its hard to believe how quickly time has gone by. Anyway, I love your memories and thank you for sharing.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Dug. You must be feeling better. I'm so glad. It certainly seemed to hit you harder than DH. He still has a bit of a cough, but never had a fever and feels fine. Do be careful though as from what we hear from our nurse daughter-in-laws, you can have some residual effects later. So please take care and get plenty of rest. Hope your sense of taste and smell comes back quickly.
As for the wedding pics... yes, we were so young. But those were happy times and even with this global pandemic looming over us these days, we're still happy... older (a lot) but happy. Take care and stay safe!

    1. Henny, you are so sweet to say those things. I know we are the same inside... but not so much outside. However, it's all still good. Thanks so much for your sweet comments.

  15. A belated Happy Anniversary... I've been running behind in Blog reading. Such an Adorable Young Couple you were, I Love seeing the Blast From The Past Sharing here in The Land Of Blog... such Nostalgic looks back at Fashion and Decorating. At the Antique Mall I started using Vintage random Photos as Price Tags on some Retro Objects of the same Era the pixs were taken and my customers loved it.

    1. Thanks for the comment, B... it certainly was a blast from the past. I have even older pics taken when my mom and dad were young... one that is on 'a long roll' of my dad and the workers at his Architectural plant... and one old postcard that my grandfather sent to my dad when dad was a young boy and my grandfather was working on a gunboat on the Persian Gulf (all blasts from the past).
