some of my 'joyful' clutter...

February and March are fairly busy... with Doctor appointments, a birthday or two, Valentine, Mardi Gras, a surgery, and Spring Break.

You'd think there would be material for a post there... but alas, nothing - at least nothing that inspires me. So, I will fall back on memories. Dusting my shelves made me think of sharing some of the little things that give me joy. So, here are some pics of one of our 3 bookshelves where some of my 'clutter' is stored.

Most of this bookshelf is pottery... little things I've made that for some reason I enjoy more than all the pottery mugs and plates I've made over the years. Silly stuff, but fun.

I have a poem published in that Roomfull of Starlight book (nothing spectacular, just something I wrote while on a silent retreat). And the 'Where's the Dragon' book on the 2nd shelf is a favorite children's book of mine (I actually have several of these... some where I absolutely adore the watercolor illustrations).

My Cheeky Chickens are everywhere (in different stages of firing). And of course there are grandkids pics scattered about.

There used to be books filling all 3 bookcases, but we decided to empty them (or almost) a while back. And to be truthful, no one will probably want these silly things when I'm gone. But for whatever reason, they give me joy.

Do you have things like that? If so, please share.

Hugs (still virtual),

Rian

  2. Rian, this was so fun to look at--thank you for sharing your joyful clutter, you're very talented! I think if I had something like this in my own house, I'd be more young at heart like yourself. :^) This really is a fine collection.

    1. Thanks, Dug. You are kind. Goes to show that everything has value (even if it's not $)... if it speaks to your heart.

  3. I love your cheeky chickens and received some as a gift from you years ago. I love seeing all the fun things you have created! You are very talented, friend. I don't have anything like that on my own shelves because of the need to dust them all the time! :-)

    1. Yes, my Cheeky Chickens still make me smile... and yes, dusting all the little buggers takes time - but I don't mind (and don't do it that often).

  4. I remember so much of this art, as you made or collected it over the years. The cheeky chickens, the kissing dolphins, the little fox. I can see the joy it brings.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I intend to keep them... or give some to friends. When I was making them at the studio, I sold some at our art sales and I had one lady that collected them. I hope they brought her joy...

  6. I, too, love your 'joyful clutter'. Especially the critters you've made. You ARE talented!

I don't really collect anything, for space and cleaning reasons (oh, how I detest dusting), though I used to more so up until my early 40s. That's when I started decluttering in earnest, though that seems to be never-ending. I do have lots of seasonal decor stored away in giant tote boxes, however, because that's one of my weaknesses. Michael's floral on sale. Lol.

    1. Oh Kim, I need to 'declutter in earnest'... but not necessarily this bookcase.

  7. The little pottery animals are adorable, I can readily see why they bring you much joy. I have a few things in my china cabinet that are special to me. I brought out my mom's bulldog and put it on display just the other day. Otherwise it just hides in the cabinet.

    1. That's one of the things I'm trying to use as motivation, Mae... if it's been hiding away for years, either display it or find another home for it.

  8. I do have little things on shelves and window sills all through the house. It's important to have as many smiles a day as possible.

  9. I know what you mean. We have a library bookcase that is FULL of odds and ends that got collected through the years. They each have a story. And like you, once we're gone, they'll probably be tossed or donated.

    1. Kay, ,maybe we should make sure that someone knows the story behind those odds and ends... before they are tossed or donated?

  10. I have collected turtle knick knacks over the years, but really need to get them out of their box to enjoy. I do not want them on a shelf to dust, but must think of some container that gives them the light of day. I think what brings us joy is so important, in these awful times.

    1. Oh, I agree, Tabor... seeing them and remembering how and where you got them will make you smile... and that's worth a dusting any day.
