I've not a lot to say today (not that usually stops me from posting), but we've been here in Texas without our downstairs A/C since Monday. Normally this would be life-threatening since it's been in the high 90's here most of the week.
But... our upstairs one still works (old too - but still kicking) which helps cool the area right below the stairs (dining room and entry) and we have ceiling fans almost everywhere (as well as a few standing one that have been brought into use). So luckily it hasn't gotten over 87 F in the house... which is not great, but do-able.
And truth be told, I'm writing this because Blogger is giving me that new little pencil on the right side that is suppose to do 'something'... like perhaps bring more in to read blogs if certain things are mentioned like food or ? Since I quit putting labels out a long time ago, I've been happy with my small group of readers.
We were suppose to have DH's brother and his wife here this week. They come up every summer to visit, go to Ham's Peach Orchard, and a few other favorite places. But we had to cancel due to the A/C problem. No one wants to visit in Texas with no A/C available.
Update on Sister-in-law: Doing better, out of ICU, but still in hospital.

Paris Baguette |
I know that I sent pics of the Paris Baguette when we were in Houston, but now there is one that just opened not far from us. It had been open for just 3 days when we visited this past week. DH got his favorite cream donut and I got a grilled cheese on sourdough and my new favorite drink - a cold brew vanilla cream (so-oo good).
Since I've nothing more to say here, thought I'd send a pic of my new work station (too hot in office with A/C out). Besides, I love to see the insides of people's homes... helps to give me a better idea of who they are. Do you find that true?
As you can see, I haven't taken off the bunny tablecloth or figures (I really like my bunnies... but did put away the other Easter decor).
And my granddaughter taught me a new game on Roblox. It's called "99 days in the woods" and basically it's a survival game (which normally I don't like), but it's interesting to play with her. She is great at shooting wolves and monsters that attack (I suck!). So I can survive if we play together as I can chop down trees and keep the fire going and she does the hunting and protecting. She and I lasted 54 days the first time we played. Alone I never get past 4...
Ok, better shut this down before you all lose interest. But just a quick update on my eye: It's finally back to normal (or almost - still itches, but I can read again!)
Surgery is scheduled for August 21 and reconstruction (plastic surgery) the 22nd. Don't know how I will blog after that. There is a possibility they may have to sew my left eye shut for a month... (really really hope that doesn't happen!) Hoping the surgery won't have to entail too much of my lower lid... so reconstruction will just be a matter of sewing the area back together. Please pray that it happens that way... (thanks 🙏).
Have a good weekend! And thanks for reading this far... wasn't sure what I was going to write about... but my monkey mind took off!
Hugs (virtually),
Rian
Oh I like the food place...lots of yummies. So sorry the AC is broken and you're enduring the heat. I hate to say it, but we've had a reprieve for most of August so far, with 60s at night and just 70s in the the days...especially when cloudy or sometimes rainy. It won't last, I know! Yes, I do appreciate seeing your working environment. And I'm sending lots of virtual healing vibes (you can imagine them as little bubbles of different colors, which you may store in the freezer if you like, and pop one as needed whenever you have surgery and need a nice uplift - our mental/emotional lives are just as important as the physical in healing!)
ReplyDeleteI love the little bubbles of different colors, Barbara! And you are right about our mental/emotional lives making a difference. I find once I fight the fear... I can handle most things.
DeleteI'm sending all my prayers for your upcoming eye surgeries!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new ac when the installation is done!
Thanks, Kim. And the new A/C is almost done. We may be cool again soon (a little broke, but cool - it's only money, right?)
DeleteRian, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's delighted when you write a new post. You are funny & kind, a real original. So glad to read about your eye, and I am keeping everything crossed on my body that things go well for you on the 21 and 22. I'm sorry about your AC, this has been such a rough summer for everyone, it seems. But that's great about Paris Baguette (I am envious!) and yep I love when people share in-house photos. It doesn't happen enough! Your own home looks very lovely of course, your workspace is so nice & organized. I hope the rest of your weekend is wonderful.
ReplyDelete"your workspace is so nice & organized" - ha! that's because I moved it all to the front room (the computer room/office is a mess with box storage, files, etc.) But thank you anyway.
DeletePS. I have Blogger like you, but I don't see any pencil?
ReplyDeleteThe 'pencil' shows up on the right in 'compose mode'... Let me know if you see it.
DeleteThanks Rian I do see it now. I never use that editor in Blogger, I have a desktop editor called Openwrite I use to publish my world famous blog posts 😎
DeleteSO HAPPY to hear your eye is doing well!!!! And sad to hear about your ac. Glad you have your upstairs unit to get by. You have a lovely home!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miss Merry. New A/C is in... and house is cooling off fast.
DeleteGood luck with your surgery - and the AC. I am glad to read that your sister in law is doing a little better at least.
ReplyDeleteI do like to see in other people's homes - but don't often share the chaos here.
Thanks, EC. As for seeing a little of other people's homes, some areas are always chaotic... like my office (which used to be our daughter's bedroom and now is a combination office/storeroom). I keep trying to clean it out, but it's a bit overwhelming.
DeleteOh my goodness. What a time you are having. I know so well how scary anything to do with our eyes is----it's concerning to say the least. Several years ago I had a partially detached retina. The eye center here in town didn't have an opening to so I had to go to a Dr who specializes in vitreo-retinal surgery in Carmel. It took over an hour to get there and oh what a rIde that was! Finally got there and in to see him, he said he could fix it and that I could go to the nearby hospital to have it done but would have to stay the night or he could do it there in his office. Didn't want to go to the hospital so he did it there. Yikes talk about about scared. It didn't take long and I sat there like a little scared rabbit the whole time. You just do what you have to do. I'll be thinking good thoughts about you on the 21 and 22.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Victoria. I've never been good with dentists, but I think this issue with my eye has me even more anxious. Your experience with your eye must have been frightening. But as you said, you do what you have to do. Thanks for the good thoughts.
DeleteI'd be a puddle of goo at 87F. I hope the fix is complete on the a/c.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you SIL is improving.
I can understand your worries about the eye surgery. I do hope it all goes well, and you recover quickly. Take care!
87 F in the house was warm... but I tend to be cold a lot, so it wasn't too bad. DH had a harder time than me. But it's all fixed now, thank goodness.
DeleteAs I am preparing for my surgery, I've got you firmly in mind for a fantastic and easy surgery, just like me! I am feeling lucky to have a virtual friend in the same boat. Sending my neck to say hello to your eye...
ReplyDeleteYes, DJan, we will both have easy surgeries... one layer only... and little to reconstruct. That is how it will be (I hope). And I will definitely be thinking of you this Thursday with prayers and good thoughts, my friend.
Deleteno a/c, i would melt...having MS i have no tolerance to the heat. people that do not have MS don't really understand and that's ok, but it is different, electrical, when i get overheated. i LOVE seeing inside other people's homes. before blogging and when my boys were little, i use to love halloween, trick or treating so i could see inside other people's homes. i like your little temporary work station!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your heat intolerance, Debbie. I didn't know that about MS. Most likely I'm just the opposite, Hashimoto (which my daughter and I both have) means we are cold most of the time. Even in A/C during the summer, I have to have my arms covered. But... since it was 87 F in the house without the A/C, while warm, it was do-able for me. DH probably felt it more.
