| doctor with sense of humor (not my eye) |
DH and I went to my 5 week post-op Eye appointment yesterday. I'm going to tell you how it went... could be TMI, so be prepared. Actually it wasn't pleasant, but not too bad.
| me these days... |
First of all, I didn't think the Doctor would take out the stent yet... but he did a few tests to see if my tear duct was open. This involves putting a long needle like instrument into the eye and irrigating it with water. They do use numbing drops first. Apparently since the water came through my nose and mouth, the tear duct was open.
They also sprayed some numbing stuff up my nose before putting another instrument up my nose to check on the stent (I guess that's what he was doing). Then he proceeded to use a tweezer like instrument to pull the stent out through the inner corner of my eye. Did it hurt? Yes, but not too bad.
DH (who stayed in the room with me) said the stent was a long thin tube that was attached to a cord. When the doctor pulled it out, there was a pop.. and after pulling it out, he looked again and said that the knot at the end didn't come out, so he went back in and pulled that out.
Done and Done! Said that I didn't need another appointment... unless I was worried about something. Said everything looked fine.
Told him my eye was still stinging a bit. He said that it probably would as pulling that stent out was like popping a rubber band in your eye... to use Systane as needed.
This morning eye still watering quite a bit... and sore. Some swelling. But I'm thinking it will take a little time to get over the trauma (both the eye and me).
At one point he said to "try to relax... nothing bad is happening". I thought 'not to you'... but didn't say anything.
But hopefully this 6 month Eye ordeal is almost over. Now if my eye will just stop tearing and being blurry, I may be able to get back to reading (actually still reading, but it's a struggle), sketching, painting, etc. Perception is not good with one eye.
Hope I didn't bore you too much. Writing down what happened is really just for me - so I can go back and remember if needed.
Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes along the way. I'm sure it helped. I know it helped me to stop being so fearful. I've never been good about having people work in my mouth (dentists used to be top on my fear list). Now I have to add not liking people in my eye either.
But I will say that this Eye Specialist is very good. At least everything he did or said worked out as he said it would. He doesn't have the best bed-side manner as he tends to be a little brusque... like saying "Stop talking!" or telling me the horrors that could happen if treatment is not taken, etc. But like Doc Martin on TV, he starts to grow on you, and we ended up liking him/trusting him despite it all.
Better close this as it's getting too long.
Ending this with 2 pictures:

and... (a reminder)

Rian I have to admit I cringed while reading this, but I was GLAD you shared. It helped to realize what you've been living with for weeks. I am so happy for you!! I'm glad DH was with you, and I love your sense of humor (those HAHA stitches) and positive attitude. I have to tell you soemthing else, having a rough day today (with pain & pressure in my head from the LC) and I walked to the store and one of the cashiers was a little rude to me, which bothered me until I saw her arm bandage. So your reminder here at the end... it helped me. Again, I am very glad the eye ordeal is pretty much over.
ReplyDeleteDug, sorry you're having a rough day... and that someone was rude to you. It happens. Sometimes people seem like they could care less... but things may be going on in their lives that we know nothing about (and vice versa). Hope the rest of your day continues to get better. It's amazing how such little things (a rude word or a smile) can ruin or make your day. Sending a warm smile and a hug! ; )
DeleteGaahh, I had to skim the actual procedure! I'd want to be sedated, frankly. Anyway, I'm glad that's over and am so hoping your LONG ordeal is over now.
ReplyDeleteI especially like your reminder about kindness. We all could use more compassion and caring in our world right now. 💕
"We all could use more compassion and caring in our world right now." Isn't that the truth, Kim! I want America to 'be kind' again.
DeleteOh that's really good news, and I needed that today. I am sorry to be so selfish, but your good outcome is so refreshing. I'm struggling with so many conditions that limit me. the aural migraine this morning kept me from reading blogs. Enough! So glad you have documented your journey with your eye. And I wish you enjoyable reading!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I get the aural migraines too. I call them 'ocular migraines' (could be different). I used to get the heavy duty ones when younger. Now I get the blind spot, zigzags...occasionally that last about 10-15 minutes. But thank goodness no major headache... sometimes a dull one and fogginess, but not a major migraine.
DeleteHere's hoping your struggles get easier. It seems that handling getting older takes a lot more than imagined.
Oh WOW! Pop eh? I would've asked to see the removed string and knot. Hmmm. Hope your eye and nose feel better. Yes, being kind needs to be remembered. Our Prez's example is non-existent; oh, I did it; maybe he was having a bad day. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteDM, he did show me the removed string... and the knot!
Delete...and 'being kind' doesn't seem to be part of our current leader's style.
Thank you for sharing this - it sounds to me like you have been very brave through all this. Hopefully your eye will continue to improve. And the "Ha Ha Ha" stitches are very funny!
ReplyDeleteCeci
Thanks, Ceci. The Ha Ha Ha stitches are funny... but glad they weren't on me.
DeleteWonderful news to hear your eye issues are nearly over. I do hope the tearing ends soon and the blurriness resolves.
ReplyDeleteThe bobcat is a handsome cat, though I hope he stays away from the ferals and your crows!
Thank you, Mae. I hope so too. And yes, the bobcat is handsome... and yes, we don't want him in our yard (but we did have 2 young ones in the yard playing a year or so ago. They were so cute). But no... preferably not in the yard.
DeleteThis is such good news! You are so brave. I am a nervous wreck about cataract surgery Tuesday and my DH is not helping. You have been through so much with your eye surgeries and treatments and it sounds like you are reaching the end. I know what a relief it will be for you!!!
ReplyDeleteMiss Merry, the fear is worse than the actual surgery. Your cataract surgery will be fine. I had mine in 2016 on both eyes (a few weeks apart). It went fine. Yours will too. But I just wish you waited a bit - after your recent ordeal. Cataract surgery can be done anytime.
Deletethat picture got me at first...so funny!! i am so happy that your husband was with you for that appointment. but boy, that was hard to read about but definitely not too much information. what an ordeal. i have cataracts in one of my eyes and i really don't want to take care of them. now i really don't want to. on the up side, i think your hair looks great "these days"!! be careful now and take good care of yourself!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, DH comes with me these days as even with my hearing aids, I'm afraid that I don't catch everything said. Not sure he really wants to be in there... and doesn't like seeing what is being done. At one point, he asked if he should leave... and was told no, it was fine. (I then asked, maybe I should leave... and they laughed).
Deletei hope you are healing well and the weather has not been harsh!!
DeleteI was so thankful and happy for you when I read that the doctor said you didn't have to come back. Such good news! You have really been through it and been so brave. I have always been afraid of dentists first and then doctors. Hope all stays well with my eye doctor. :) That bobcat is beautiful! and looks really big!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Henny. I find the bobcats beautiful too.
DeleteThanks so much for commenting on my blog. I used to follow you and lost a bunch of blogs a while back and never knew why. I am having the eye issues, too. Had to comment back. Eye issues are worse than the dentist to me now, too. I am afraid surgery might be in my future. This took a while to write but I know you know all about that and I had to thank you for connecting. Am following again now, I hope. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you may be right... in that eye issues may be worse than the dentist now. I keep thinking it will be better tomorrow, and sometimes it seems that way... then it starts watering, itching, or aching again. I love to read, sketch, watercolor, etc. and haven't been able to do this for the last 6 months. (oh, I do read, but it's not easy with that left eye blurry). I really hope you don't need surgery, but I guess it is what it is.
