Weekend is here again...

Just getting back to sketching again. Decided to work on bunnies for a while. It's been over a year since I've put my pencil to paper (due to eye problem)... so, I really need to work on it. But for a first attempt after so long, it's not too bad. And since I've got very little to post, I thought I'd better add what I could.

We did have company this weekend. Our son-in-law spent Friday night with us. He was returning back home to the Hill country from a visit with his mother (who is in hospice in Kansas). It was good to see him, even though circumstances were not good. His family farms in Kansas and he brought us some cucumbers and peppers as well as a loaf of zucchini pecan bread... which we are enjoying.

Nothing else much going on. I have to have an old root canal redone (ugh!) as it has too much bone loss under it. And also I have been having a bit of TMJ pain in my right jaw. This is new. It has 'popped' on me before, but has never caused me pain (not unusual I'm told as the right side gets more use than the left due to missing back teeth on the left). Anyway, I'm eating soft foods, using warm compresses, and taking Motrin.

My good friend also texted me to say that she was in the ER yesterday afternoon... and apparently most of the evening before they transferred her to another hospital (due to lack of beds). She has congestive heart failure which has, up to now, been controlled with meds. But luckily, she says that she should be going home tomorrow.

OK, I started this yesterday and now it's Sunday... and as I've mentioned before, I like Sundays.

and just a blast from the past...

my cousins I grew up with... (me on left)

My cousins (my mom's sisters' kids) were like brothers and sisters to me. My own sister was 10 years older and brother 4 years older... so I spent a lot of time with my cousins. Luckily, they are still around and we stay in touch.

OK, that's about it. Hope you're having a good weekend and a fun week ahead. Stay out of the heat if possible... and hang in there, we'll be complaining about the cold before you know it.

Hugs (virtually),

Rian

  1. Rian, you are talented. That rabbit drawing is warm and wonderful. Gosh I'm so sorry about the TMJ pain. I wrestle with that too, the same reason as yourself. Missing back teeth on the left. I would love to get a couple implants if I could get rid of this long covid. Anyway, your company sounded nice, as did that bread. And I love that very early photo! More please! I hope you get to feeling better soon. Good to hear from you. 🙂💛

    1. Implants are good, but I feel that I'm too old for that... probably have too much bone loss for it and not sure I want to put myself through bone grafting, etc. Hopefully just redoing my old root canal will help... and nothing more will be needed (fingers crossed!!). That pic popped up of myself and my cousins on my laptop. We had fun growing up together. I really need to go through boxes of old pics and falling apart albums. Sending you good vibes and virtual hugs!!

  2. What a sweet and well formed rabbit. You do have talent. So sorry about the teeth...mine do similar things due to also having lost those left molars years back. Good that you had those cousins to relate to as a kid. I didn't have relatives close enough to have fun with cousins till we met at adults, but still live too far apart for frequent gatherings.

    1. Thanks, Barbara. I don''t know about talent... but I do need practice. As for the cousins, all stayed in New Orleans, but me... so our kids didn't get to hang out with their cousins like we did. I regret that... but life moves on.

    1. I guess I miss my cousins... my brother and sister have been long gone, but my cousins are still around. I find that a comforting thought.

    1. The teenager in the pic is the oldest. The rest of us are 2-5 years younger. Since my older sister and brother are gone, it's nice to have an older cousin. We talk a lot.

    1. It's true, Debbie, we didn't take a lot of pics when we were young... and with me being the 3rd child, there aren't a lot of pics of me. Glad to hear that you are feeling a bit stronger. Hope you make it home soon.

  6. Sweet bunny drawing! I envy you the talent, I've no ability in that realm.
Although my eldest brother was 9 years older than I, I did have two younger siblings. When we added in the other 10 cousins there was someone near in age to each of us -with the exception of the youngest...she was a bit of a surprise. Like you, I've got many fond memories of our times together.
