Happy Valentine's Day 2014!

Jack (who we lost last month) with his arm around his brother, Tux

Happy Valentine's Day!

Just a short post today.  This picture of Jack and Tux was one I really like.  They had such a good bond. If you will notice that Tux (cat in front) has no whiskers... it's because Jack constantly cleaned Tux (DH used to say that either Tux was a very dirty cat or else he must taste really good).  But Jack always cleaned the whiskers right off Tux.  Now... with Jack gone, it's so strange to see Tux's whiskers growing back in...

My only other report for the day is that we had a scare with Ghost this week.  She is the grey cat with the genetic kidney problem. Well, she has always had a really hardy appetite, but suddenly stopped eating last Sunday. We watched her and she continued to drink her water and use the little box, but spent all of her time sleeping on my bed... and refused all food.  This lasted from Sunday through Wednesday.  Just when we were struggling with the decision to bring her to the Vets, (we hate to do this as she is an easily traumatized cat and going to the Vet doesn't help this condition), I decided to try placing some 'chicken broth' near her water dish... in the hopes that perhaps she would drink this and it might jump start her appetite again. Well, either it worked or she finally got over what ailed her as she did drink a few sips of it Wed night, a little more on Thursday, and today is eating both the chicken broth and her KD special diet. We will continue to watch her, but it seems that she is on the mend.

  1. Good news on Ghost. It takes someone who understands cats to know what to do in that situation. I'm so glad she has you. Love the Valentine photo. I put something similar up today to celebrate the love of two cats. So very sweet. Enjoy your Valentine evening. It's chinese for us. My favorite. Hugs, Deb

    1. Thanks, Deb. She seems to be doing fine. I checked out your Valentine post. Cute photo of your two cats. I think having other cats around to help fill the void left by the one lost helps...

  2. Happy Valentine's Day! That's a wonderful pic of Jack and Tux, so sweet. Kitty sibling love. :-)

And we're very glad to read that Ghost is on the mend from whatever ailed her. Paws crossed she continues to eat and is back to normal.

    1. Thanks, Kim. And Ghost is continuing to eat and be her old self again... (Aha... we can breathe again... another crises avoided)

  3. Good for you on kick-starting Ghost's interest in food.
The bond between litter mates astounds me. Cats tolerate other cats, litter mates demonstrate a true bond.

    1. Pretty true, Joanne. Julie is the black and white litter mate of Jack and Tux. She actually lived at my son's house for about a year when she was a kitten and returned to our house when my son married someone who owned large dogs. We had 7 cats in the house (at that time)... and although they all got along... she immediately attached back to her two black and white brother, sleeping with them, cleaning them, etc.

    1. I know, Dee. Tux has been 'clean shaven' all his life. It's strange to see him growing whiskers. It was even stranger to watch Jack bite those whiskers off... and Tux letting him.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss. I wonder how Tux feels about not having his brother around to clean him. And good news about Ghost! :-)

    1. DJan, I think that the females (4 female to one lone male - Tux) have taken him over. They clean him and cuddle with him.... so he seems to be doing fine.
