OK... October is here. It is still hot in Texas. My back is better. However, now I have Shingles! Sorry about this beginning, but I had to get that off my chest.
Thankful that it's a mild case (just 2 spots on my left upper arm and a low grade fever) - probably due to the fact that I did get the original Shingles vaccine 5 years ago. The rashes don't itch, but they do hurt. However, it's not the rash itself that hurts, it's deep inside my arm??
Anyhow, I'm on these huge anti-viral horse-pills 3X a day... and anyone who knows me knows I don't like/take pills (if I can get away without them). Not only do I tend to get reactions to medications, but I also have trouble swallowing anything bigger than a Tylenol caplet. My family physician knows this. I asked him if I could possibly get by without taking the anti-viral, and he told me that if I didn't, the Shingles would probably go chronic and I really really didn't want that. Well, that scared me, so I promised to take them.
The Pharmacist was a very sweet woman who commiserated with me on their size and showed me how to break them in half. It is a 3X a day ordeal! I use buttermilk to help them go down... and usually it takes a few tries. But I haven't choked to death yet. DH says 'what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger..." Maybe. I tell myself it's one of the prices we pay to get to this age. At least I've had no bad reaction. They do make me a little sleepy.
OK... enough of that.

This one made me laugh...
and this next one also...
Well, that's it. Happy TGIF! Oh, have any of you ever seen this?
Peach Coke? |
My grandson brought these home for me this week. He knows I am a Coke Person in the Coke vs Pepsi world. I had never seen Peach Coke before (I like Classic), but these were pretty good.
Hugs,
Rian 😏
I like the one about dust, very funny. I hope you heal quickly from shingles, I find it hard to swallow big pills too.
ReplyDeleteAfter these last few weeks of back pain and shingles, I need to dust!
DeleteMaybe next week...
Same here! I am also concerned that if I mention any new difficulty to a doctor, the immediate response is a new medication, often expensive and with serious side effects! Guess I should just keep my mouth shut. Wishing you clear of the shingles challenge soon. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThanks, LC. Luckily with these anti-virals, there were no serious side effects... just the anxiety of trying to get the darn things down.
DeleteI've seen the dust one in my own Pinterest account, but not the cat. And I didn't know there was such a thing as peach Coke!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm very sorry to read you have shingles, though "glad," if I can use that word, that it's a mild case. I didn't realize you could still get it even after being vaccinated. I wish you speedy healing, and good luck with the horse pills!
From what I've read, Kim, the first Shingles vaccination was only 50% effective, but it was the best they had at the time. Now there's a new 2 part vaccine that is supposedly 80% effective. They recommend everyone over 50 get it. I have to wait for a bit (not sure how long?) now that I have the virus.
DeleteLaughed out loud about the dust. I want one of those for my house. I am so sorry about the shingles and sooo glad it is a mild case.I had it and it can really hurt. Be well soon.
ReplyDeleteI did too, Patti. I may have to frame that sign and put it up in my house.
DeleteSo very sorry for your illness. I am so hoping this passes really fast and you are back to normal soon!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tabor.
DeletePoor kitty, wanted a soft bed and just found a pile of crackle.
ReplyDeleteYes, but he seems pretty comfortable...
DeleteSorry to hear about shingles. I have been thinking I should get the new vaccine and this may be a little push in that direction. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Olga - I plan to get it just as soon as they'll let me.
DeleteGlad you are choking down those pills. Shingles is awful! I had the original shot but not the new two-shot version. It's hard to take but worth it. I think I'll get the new version.
ReplyDeleteDH and I planned to get the new one, but just hadn't gotten around to it when this hit. He will get his very soon and I will get mine after the appropriate wait time.
DeleteSorry to hear you have shingles. I must go get a vaccine - I keep forgetting to do it.
ReplyDeleteThe dust one made me laugh. The neighbour across the road had the perimeter of his house and the entire garage floor and driveway dug up. They're filling it in now and I swear the dust is finding its way through closed windows!
As for the weather it's near freezing here. I sure wish we could share. :)
Near freezing... so hard to comprehend when we’re still in the 90’s. Yes, I will be happy to share... let’s see, 90 and 32 (F) that’s 122 and sharing equally, that’s 61 F - I’ll take it!
DeleteDear Rian, I've come to the conclusion that aging is like a necklace with different sized beans on it. We have a big bead that represents either something that seems wonderful or something that seems difficult and between those big beads are smaller ones that represent the ups and downs of any given day. Right now, your necklace seems to be filling with those big beads. I so hope that you discover a lot of small ones in the next weeks. Peace.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dee. Yesterday DH and I went to a memorial for a dear friend that passed away unexpectedly. He didn't want a funeral... so his wife and children put together a coffee and pie 'get together' in a private room at his favorite restaurant on his birthday. It was very informal and we basically sat/stood around and talked, told stories, and enjoyed the memories. It was very nice and I think he would have approved. I came away thinking how important it is for us to be thankful for each day we are given.
DeleteHope your shingles goes away very soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John.
