Birthdays to remember...

Ghost waiting on her breakfast this morning

Olivia Feral waiting for her breakfast

This week DH and I both hit the big 7- 5!  But with the pandemic, we aren't celebrating... or at least not going out or having family over. Generally we don't make a big do for our birthdays anyway.  Our usual arrangements consist of  going out to dinner with family and then coming back to the house for cake and coffee.

This year our youngest son, daughter-in-law, and grand daughter showed up at our house masked, with a birthday cake in hand (white chocolate raspberry bundt cake - delicious!).

They looked so cute (grand daughter was wearing a kitty mask). They didn't come in (DIL works as a nurse with Covid patients). But we stood outside (physically distancing) and talked for a few moments (really wanted to hug them but resisted).

Since we had ordered a birthday cake from Central Market to be picked up this Wednesday, the 3 of us (DH, grandson, and myself) really don't need to eat 2 cakes (and we will if they're there), so we decided to share the one we bought from Central Market with our next door neighbors. It's a strawberry shortcake BD cake made with lots of fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

These neighbors have come over to check on us during the pandemic asking if we needed anything. And they also called last week to make sure we were alright as they hadn't seen us or our cars out in a while. Told them that we really weren't going anywhere much, so the cars (car and truck) were parked in the driveway behind the fence. But we appreciated them thinking of us.

They are also the ones who we shared the online grocery order mistake when the grocery sent 5 pounds of potatoes instead of .5 pounds (what would I do with 5 pounds of potatoes?)

I'm still reading, crocheting, quilting, making masks, blogging, reading blogs, and thinking about trying to experiment more with yeast rolls (finally got hold of some KA bread flour). Re-arranged my kitchen a bit (moving our old wooden kitchen table on my own wasn't smart - hurt my back - but only a little)

Oh, also playing a Nintentdo Switch game called Animal Crossing. I'm not really a game person - don't even play cards, but am enjoying this. In fact, it's a bit addictive. This first pic is what the game looks like.

Inside my house  on island

Out in my garden on island

It starts out when you move to an island in a tent and gradually build yourself a house, etc.  (I like it because it's all creative survival, not survival of the fittest - no guns, no zombies, etc.).

Anyway, enough trivial info for today. Hope you had a good week. And as always, thanks for coming by to visit. Love you all!

Stay safe! Hugs,
Rian

  2. Birthday wishes to you both.

A friend's mom has her 100th tomorrow -- no big party, but she does live with family and there is a card shower going.

  4. Happy Birthday to you both. Oh to be 75 again:) Loved the pictures of the cats. That feral one really knows how to work the "feed me" look.
Good that you got to see your kids and kudos to your DIL for being on the front lines these days. Thank her for me. I have heard about Animal Crossings and you make it look like fun.

    1. Thank you Patti. DIL is very much on the front lines and it does worry me. But yes, we are proud of her. Animal Crossings is definitely an interesting and very well done game. I am enjoying it.

    1. I'm very grateful, DJan, that we have both made it this far... and that we have been able to enjoy these retirement years together - many don't get the chance.

    1. Thanks, Joanne. The game is extremely clever - once you get your house built and furnished, you can even customize your dwelling by painting or decorating - plant flowers, fish, visit your neighbors, take trips to other islands, etc.

  9. Hooe you two had a great birthday. 7-5 is a good number! Love the kitty pictures. Thank goodness I don't do any games except for scrabble on my phone (I play one game with my breakfast).

Stay safe, and hope very soon HUGS will be in your future!

    1. Thanks, Annie. And that tiny little black and white feral just brought 5 little kittens to the front to eat. They look about 6 weeks old... and run pretty fast if I open the door. No wonder she needs to eat as much as she does.

  10. 2 cakes, well you deserve that in these circumstances - no one says our clothes have to fit after the pandemic. happy birthday - this birthday, will go down in the history books as one to really remember. it's nice that you have neighbors to check on you, we must be old, seems all of the neighbors are checking on us!!!

the movie i spoke about on my blog is on prime, but it could be other places, i'm not sure!! and a water turtle, now i am reading about those as well and i feel like i am back in school....hehehehehe, thanks for the info!!!!

    1. Well, Debbie, we finished off the 2 cakes with no problem (did share with our neighbors). And I did check on the movie. It is on Prime, but you have to pay for it. We only watch movies that are free - but I will check on other streaming sites to see if I can find it.
As for the turtle, I could be wrong, but his markings on his body look like a red slider water turtle. My youngest son is the curator of the herpetology dept at the Dallas Zoo. I could send him a pic. He would know - not that it really matters - but if you're interested...
