Well, DH and I finally got our first Covid vaccine yesterday. No side effects except for a sore upper arm. So glad to have that done and over. After the second one (in a few weeks), it will only be a short time until Easter... and then maybe it will be safe to be around the kids and grandkids again!
I know that we should continue to wear masks and do all the things we've been told to do... and will. But it would be great to be able to get together with them after all this time.
The weather has been wonderful this week... after the awful Artic Storm. It was 80 degrees yesterday... and only a week ago it was minus 2! But it is cooling down this afternoon and they're saying rain is coming, possibly hail, but hopefully nothing too serious.
I have to tell you that the outside ferals did fine during the below freezing temps. We did have heat lamps and blankets and beds about and a few did use the garage... but still I was afraid that I'd find them frozen in their beds. But they did well, bundled together sometimes 3 or 4 on a chair or in a bed... even one little possum decided to sleep on one of the pillows under the heat lamp with the cats. (I have a picture, but it's not very good as it's taken at night and the heat lamps cast a golden glow)

Nothing else to report. Spent the morning sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor... ordered another box of gloves and masks from Amazon... and plan to make pizza tonight for supper!
So glad to hear about your vaccine shots Rian, that's wonderful. And very sweet what you did for the "critters" outside... I like those cat pics too, hope you guys have a nice weekend. :^)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dug. It's supposed to be a rainy weekend, but that's OK with me. I love those pics of our cats and the way they would line up on the bed to nap. They are all gone now... but they did live long lives. Oldest one was 22 when she died.
DeleteTerrific you got your first shot. Phew. Now you can relax just a wee bit. Loved that your ferals survived with all the things you provided for them. Cracked up at the possum. What a surprise. That was one smart and grateful little fellow.

ReplyDeleteWe've had raccoons sleeping on the porch under the fan in the hot August sun, but this little possum found himself a warm spot for winter.

You know, Briony, we have many possums (all sizes) that come by to eat from the feral cat dishes... but this little guy decided to it's a great place to sleep too.
DeleteHurrah for the vaccine! It's my understanding that even one shot will give about 80% efficacy after a few weeks, and right now I'd be thrilled with that.

Actually, I was not so sure about getting the vaccine in the beginning. But as time went on, I was made to realize (from my nurse DIL's) that I really did NOT want to get Covid and this vaccine is basically all we've got at the moment. And now that I've had the first one, I do feel a little better (maybe a bit more optimistic) about it all.

I think that by April, the vaccine should be open to all... sure hope so anyway. But do worry about people rushing to remove the masks. I think that even if things open up, they should keep the masks in use through the summer and see how it goes. Sure don't want another spike in cases.

DeleteI also worry about my ferals in winter. We have insulated houses for them under our deck that has straw and self warming pads but sometimes they just like to bundle up together on the chairs on the deck or under the table.

Congratulations on your first shot. I am in my second week after my second shot. Now I have to relearn how to be out among people. I will do it with some trepidation.
Our ferals bundle up together on the chairs too... and we do feed them more often when it's really cold.

But I do intend to stay masked for a while... don't care what anyone says. It seems like common sense to me. But I do understand what you mean as I wonder if I will not always be hesitant around strangers after all this.

Debbie, I think getting the vaccine is going to get easier now. Places seem to be opening up all over and I think doctor's offices will have it soon too. Since we got notified by one, we have had 3 others contact us.
