I'm a little behind...

Sorry if I haven't commented much lately, I've been a little behind on my blog reading.  Trying to catch up today. Easter was a milestone for me since we had the kids over for the first time in over a year.  All the adults here have been vaccinated... so we felt it was time (besides, I really needed those hugs!)

Then we had some 'plumbing' problems that needed attention... and not having the use of your kitchen sink is difficult.

On top of that, one of the female feral cats in our yard (we call her Olivia - female Oliver Twist - as she constantly comes back to the door wanting "more please?") showed up with 3 adorable kittens (one black, one black & white, and one Siamese). They look about 6 weeks old.

All 3 kits here, but black one is inside U

2 of Olivia's 3 kittens

I also had a video of them playing, but for the life of me could not get it to post on my blog...

And I've now been on my 'gluten-free' trial for a bit now and it's not been too difficult. I have cheated on occasion... had a piece of Strawberry short-cake at Easter, but in general the gluten-free products I've tried (Canyon Creek bagels, Good Thins crackers,  King Arthur GF pancakes, Schar pizza crust) have all been good. I haven't tried the Barilla pasta nor the KA measure for measure flour yet.

And that pretty much covers what I've been up to. Oh, I have also been working on the "Time After Time" sequel. Have completed about 46 chapters... and may 'possibly' be able to finish the storyline by my self-imposed deadline of May. But then the editing will start...  (I'm still amazed at the orders for the book that come in from Amazon each month... not a tremendous amount, but still a steady flow that makes me smile.)

The weather is beautiful here... although the weatherman is threatening some severe this evening. I'm really hoping it will pass us by. No one needs more to worry about these days when life in general is beginning to feel good again.

Find the little things that make you happy (or someone you know happy) and do them today!

Make some brownies!
Call a friend!
Tell someone you love them!

And thanks for reading my ramblings...

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. Makes me happy to hear you are doing so well, and that you got to hug the grands! And yes, those are adorable kittens. I would worry about them if they lived with anybody else.

    1. The kittens are so cute. The little black and white one looks so much like Tux... who we lost last year.

  2. Congrats on your family get-together. We won't have ours until August. Now . . . I'm guessing you've just adopted three more cats.

    1. I wouldn't say 'adopted' since they are outside ferals... but yes, we will try to keep them safe and fed. Years ago we would have either taken them in or taken them to the adoption room at our local Animal Shelter. Now at our age they are too hard to catch and we just do the best we can for them.

  3. Your ramblings are always so interesting. Oh, those adorable little kittens. Mama cat sure knew the best place to carry her babies. Glad you could have the family for Easter. Things really are beginning to feel a little more normal.

    1. Thanks, Henny. The mama cats around here are smart. They don't bring the babies around when they're young and easy to catch. They wait until they're old enough to run really fast when you open that door. BTW, I've just been reading your posts and am so sorry to hear about what happened to Weetie. Please forgive me for not commenting sooner.

    1. It was really nice, Joanne. If the pandemic did anything good, it made us appreciate the simple pleasures of being with family and/or friends.

  5. try bob mill's gluten free pizza mix, it's great, you have to make it yourself, but worth it. also I forget the brand, but there is a chickpea pasta that is good, doesn't say gluten free but it is. some of the asian rice noodles are good I like them with store bought peanut sauce, spicy though. Are there any volunteer organizations that will spay those poor mommy cats ? Of course the kittens are cute but I hate to see them having litter after litter.

    1. I will look for that Bob Mill's GF pizza mix, Linda. I take it that you have been using GF products for a while?

    1. Yes, they are so sweet... and their mom is such a good mom. She watches them like a hawk.

  7. How amazing it must have been to see family in person! What a hug? I barely remember!

The kittens are sweet. You do so much for the ferals, I wish you had a TNR group in your area to catch and spay the mom.

Congrats on the good progress of your sequel, that's fantastic! :-)

  8. It must have been wonderful to have a family gathering. I am still looking forward to that, but soon. Olivia and her babies look so healthy. I think the feral cats in your yard have hit upon a fine balance of maintaining the freedom of the wild while taking advantage of the perks of domesticity!

    1. It was really nice to have the kids here. I hope it won't be too long before you too can gather with your family. We are still being cautious, but feel a bit better now that we have all been vaccinated.

    1. No reason for you to know that, Tabor. My book (here on this page under my pic) is no world's greatest novel... just one of many stories I wrote... and a friend enjoyed it and thought others might too.

  10. How wonderful you were able to get together. I've been so fortunate, in that my daughter doesn't work outside the home, and my son lives with me so I haven't had to forgo those hugs.

I'm with Kea, I wish there were a TNR group to ensure that the ferals are spayed and neutered. Although the kittens are cute!

    Take care, stay well.

    1. I'm so glad you weren't without hugs throughout this pandemic. It's surprising how much you can miss something. And there are groups around here that spay, vaccinate, and release... we did this ourselves over the years. Some are caught, some not. We take care of whatever turns up in our yard.

  11. So happy you got a good dose of hugs for Easter. They are food for our mental health and happiness.
Those babies are so cute. Looks like the dad might have been a wandering Siamese.

    1. We did have a Siamese stray that was around here for years. We called him Sam. He was picked up, neutered, and released. DH and I never saw him again after his release, but then about a month ago, we thought we did. However, it could have been one of his many offspring. But black cats do carry Siamese genes...

    1. Not sure if I feel any better since GF... not having any episodes lately, but then they are few and far between anyway. Will continue for a while and see how it goes.
