It's Sunday evening and I have no idea what I'm going to blog about. I do know that it's almost time to think about supper, so whatever I start now will probably have to be continued tomorrow...

I've spent the better part of today (and yesterday) organizing files, moving old files, and trying to keep recent ones updated. When someone once said that computers make for less paperwork, they were way off the mark. I can never count on being able to get to something on the computer when needed. The Internet might be down or the WiFi having probs, etc. So almost everything has to be backed up in paper and filed away. And if you say, "but it's backed up in the cloud".... I have to say, I don't understand or trust that either. Such is life in this technological age.

Another thing I've just been working on is all the greeting cards we've gotten and given over the years. I have 3 boxes of cards that are just from each other, our kids, and family & friends. I know most will say just throw them out. I can't! Some have things written on them from family or friends that are now gone. When I read them, I feel like they're still here. Some were written by our kids when very young. It's hard. I know they will be thrown out by someone one day... but it won't be me. Interspersed among the cards are letters and notes - some from my brother or sister before they passed away. They make me laugh... sometimes they make me cry, but they make me 'feel'... and I find that important.

I guess I've been trying to get rid of so much 'stuff' that has accumulated over the years. Our grandson who lives with us decided to do the same. He found closets full of old clothes that were his when he was much younger and filled 2 large garbage bags with t-shirts, jeans, etc. I called The National Kidney Foundation to come pick them up later this week.

Someone told me that one can also donate old phones. I'm not sure where to do this, but I'm going to check into it. We have all our old phones going back to the iPhone 3. Don't know if anyone wants or can use them as they are 'old' and probably no longer supported... but will check.

Cute emogi's... (didn't know emogis were even available here)

These are totally unrelated to this thread... just playing!

Now it's Monday!

And here's a meme that probably fits me:

but I'm trying...

This morning DH and I walked around the neighborhood. Trying to add to our Vitamin D. It is sunny, but fairly cool this morning.

Nothing new or blog-worthy has come up, so I'm going to just share a few pics of my granddaughter... since it's her 21st birthday this week.... and I find it hard to believe that so much time has passed.

Home from the hospital

Wishing you all a wonderful week!
Thanks for visiting...

  1. Happy birthday to your beautiful grand daughter.
We have way tooooo much stuff here. Some of it I can let go - but himself cannot. And vice versa. I do wish he would surrender tired clothes that don't fit though...
I hope your week is packed with joy.

    1. Thank you, EC. I'm having a hard time realizing she's 21... where does the time go?
And yes, it's hard to let go of some stuff, but I'm trying.

  2. Rian, I enjoyed your chit-chat. And as long as I'm here, I wanted to tell you how much I always enjoy your comments on others blogs. I was reading your longer one on DJan's "Eye on the Edge" yesterday, and I thought "Rian is always honest, never boring." I sure hope you have a good week ahead. :^)

    1. Thanks for your input, Dug. I know sometimes my comments get a bit long... and I'm sure some are boring too... but if we're sharing, might as well share the truth (or what I
      consider the truth).

  3. Your granddaughter is beautiful. Don't grandchildren grow way faster than their parents did? And how does that possibly work?

  4. Happy Birthday to your lovely granddaughter. That time from baby to adult sure goes fast doesn't it? I admire you trying to let go of things but it is hard to categorize what is not necessary and what is prized. I'm trying too.

    1. Thanks, Patti. It is very difficult to let go, but I'm trying and am determined to at least get some of it done. Good luck if you're doing the same.

  5. Managing stuff has become a priority since purging my mom's house of 30yrs of greeting cards held together with elastics that fell apart upon handling and 15 yrs of utility bills neatly filed. Yes, someone has to deal with the stuff. I just watched George Carlin's "A place for my stuff". Kind of puts it in perspective. Or as my son says - go to work to make money to buy crap you don't need.

    1. Mona, I had to go through both my mother's and my brother's stuff... so yes, it is difficult. But I'm trying to do better for my kids... however, there are still things that I want to keep and they probably won't...

  6. Happy Birthday to your granddaughter!
Maxine is always bang on. As for clearing clutter, I will say that having cleaned out my parents' home, I would rather deal with the paper, than the trinkets and miscellaneous items. It's not difficult to sell or give away furniture and kitchen items, but often no one wants the rest. The paperwork, on the other hand, gives a view into your life that your children and grandchildren don't truly know. I still have much of the paper that my Dad left behind and some of my mom's - she seems to have gotten rid of some things. I do have the last letter I received from her and I will treasure it and pass it on to my daughter.

    1. Thanks, Mae. And I agree that the paperwork does give a glimpse into a life that the children or grands may not know... especially letters or writings.

  7. Yes, I along with the the rest here wish her a very happy birthday. I also wanted to thank you for "Carrick Cove," which I recently finished and was so sorry to let those people go. Fortunately, it's on my KIndle and will be read at least one more time. I found it so lovely to keep these people in my life that I took my Kindle to bed every night and read a chapter or two, then put it aside. It always gave me sweet dreams, thinking of them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! :-)

    1. DJan, you are so sweet to say those things about "Carrick Cove". I feel the same about leaving them, but then I have a personal interest. Perhaps at some point, I will find a way to make a connection to their lives in another story. But again, thank you.

Yep, I donate old phones after doing a factory reset (deletes my info). Women's safe house give them out so 911 is always with them if needed.

  9. Dear Rian, well, finally, I got with the program and begin to read postings again and you are one of the blogs at the top of my list. I purchased your new novel yesterday from Amazon. The paperback. Also, the first one as well as the second one as e--books. Sometimes I can't read a paperback and I just wanted to be sure I'd have both books in a readable form. So . . . I hope that this weekend, I'll reread the first one and then I'll get to dive into the second!

I so hope the book is selling well because I remember just being charmed and intrigued by the first book and I'd like lots of readers to have the same experience. Peace from Dee Ready and the cats--Ellie, Maggie, and Matthew!

    1. Thanks so much, Dee. I hope you enjoy the second. The print is not small in the paperback edition as we considered that when printing the book... but again, some may need it bigger and for that, Kindle is great. So far "Carrick Cove" has gotten good reviews - but not all are on Amazon.

    2. Dear Rian, your new book came yesterday and I started r reading it last evening--already I'm hooked again. You are such a storyteller. And . . . you are right, I can read the type, easily. Thanks for thinking of all of us who may have some vision concerns.

I'm wondering what type size, font, and leading/line spacing you choose because I'd like to follow your example with the memoir I hope to publish in a few months. Dee

    3. I will check that info, Dee... and get back with you.

    4. Dear Rian, I'm wondering also if you have a word count for the manuscript that became your second book. I like the size and could aim for that in my writing. Thanks for any help you can give me with regard to all my questions! Peace.

  10. Aging gives us that dramatic perspective for which we do not have enough armour to endure. If that makes any sense. I say keep your cards if you look at them and if they have meaning. The stuff to throw out is that which no longer gives joy.

    1. Tabor, it makes sense in that my emotional armour is definitely weakening... and I do intend to keep the cards/letters that bring me joy to reread them.

  12. the greeting card projects i sent you are super simple and won't take long at all. all you need are binder rings and ribbon. both can be ordered online, easy peasy. i keep mine out so i can look at them. i enjoyed your entry but i am typing with one hand...a little bit of a pain.

thanks for stopping by, with your kind words. i can keep blogging but what will i write about??

    1. Hi Debbie! Thanks for the info on the greeting card project. Yes, that is a great idea... and one I may pursue. Sometimes I think the 'projects' (especially cards and pictures) are too overwhelming... and then I think of you and how organized you are. As for what you will blog about... anything will do (as you can see from my posts - what you and hubby ate for breakfast as well as 'whatever' you are thinking about that day).
