my week in review...

Walking into the bathroom one day this week, I was surprised to see a tiny frog sitting by the faucet. It's not unusual to occasionally find tiny geckos in the house, but this is the first time I've come across a frog. I scooped him up into a plastic container and was going to save him for our granddaughter who loves frogs. But then I realized she already had 2... and both of these were big enough to probably eat this little thing, so I just took a picture for her and released him into the back yard.

Also... we have security cameras in the back that we check daily. They show the ferals that come to the yard - usually the cats, kittens, possums, raccoons, and box turtles - but occasionally a coyote or bobcat come by. Yesterday to our surprise the camera showed a coyote chasing our little black kitten. Luckily he/she was smart enough to run up the tree that is close by the porch and escape.

We do have a 6 ft fence... but apparently the coyotes can jump it. So now we're getting an estimate to see if we can raise it to 8 ft.

Another fun (ha!) experience this week was my visit to the dentist. I was told that I had a small cavity underneath an old cap on one of my teeth - so the dentist needed to remove the cap, treat the decay, and take an impression for a new cap... and there was a 'possibility' of a root canal. Well, going to the dentist (even for cleaning) is difficult for me. I tell myself it's silly and to not be such a wuss, but my heart beats wildly and it's hard not to panic. But I tell myself, "JUST DO IT!" and did. It wasn't awful... just a nerve wracking 2 hours (and luckily the root canal wasn't necessary). And I will say that this dentist and his staff are very kind and extremely good at what they do.

On another note, I made a chicken enchilada pie today. It's my 'cheat' on the original chicken enchilada recipe made with either corn or flour tortillas. I use the same recipe, but instead of putting the filling into tortillas, I put it into a covered pie shell. It's faster and really good (and takes less time than filling 12 tortilla shells).

That's about it. We hope to go to Ham's Peach Orchard some time this week (will try to remember to take pics). They have wonderful fresh peaches, blueberries, strawberries, etc. as well as dozens of products made with peaches, baked goods, frozen goods, etc. And fresh peach and strawberry ice-cream! Also they now have peach pulled pork sandwiches (which are really good).

As for some of the crazy political stuff going on :

and for DH's Father's Day:

And Happy Father's Day to all of the Dad's out there!

Hugs (virtual),

Rian

  1. Rian, enjoyed reading about the tiny frog and seeing the photo too. That just seems so you. To be honest, my heart skipped a beat reading about the tiny kitten running up the tree from the coyote. I'm glad she's safe! And I'm glad you didn't require a root canal, I know how stressful going to the dentist can be. I've been needing a couple implants for over a year now but keep putting it off because of the long covid inflammation. Anyway, loved the pie it looks delicious! Love your memes too, the perfect day for them for sure. ❤️

    1. Our hearts skipped a beat too watching that coyote chase the kitten on the camera. We know they're out there, but actually seeing the danger makes it more worrisome. As for the dental procedure, I survived... and yes, thank goodness no root canal needed. DH has had several implants. He doesn't find any dental work stressful - unbelievable! But I certainly understand your hesitancy - especially with that continuing covid inflammation. Sending you all good thoughts and vibes! ; )

    1. I know how you feel, Debbie. When I arrive at the dentist and they ask how are you today, my only response usually is "I'm here"... and that about covers it.
As for the little frog, he was adorable - and still alive since we no longer have cats in the house. When we did, they would usually find the little geckos and carry them around in their mouths until I rescued them. They wouldn't eat them, just liked to play with them.

  3. Phew, I'm glad the kitten escaped the coyote! Outdoor cats do tend to have shorter lives than indoor cats, and I suspect this one used at least one of it's nine lives!
You are not the only one who finds dentistry work frightening. I have been known to pass out in the chair, though as I've grown older I'm slightly better. But I do avoid the dentist as much as I can...which is probably a reason why it is worse than it needs to be.

    1. Yes, it's true that outdoor cats have a life expectancy of only 2-5 years... while indoor cats life 10-15 plus. All the cats we've had over the years were originally outdoor ferals that we took in. This kitten is pretty smart... may make it longer, if lucky. We've had some ferals out there for more than 10 years. Guess some are street smart.
Mae, there is just something about going to the dentist and having them work in your mouth that makes my heart beat so fast that I'm afraid I'm going to die. But I tell myself others do it, so I should be able to do it too. And I take very good care of my teeth to prevent having to go in often.

  4. I hear you on the dentist. Mine is a lovely woman and I still dread going to see her. A dentist I had years ago had a shortened fore finger and I always wondered if a patient had bitten it off.
Glad that the black kitten escaped.
I love the clip about politics. Sooooo true. Sadly.

  5. I'm currently avoiding the dentist, because she keeps finding more awful things happening below the gum line! So there's not much hope and yet she won't be the one who can extract them and then hopefully I can get a plate where I'll again be able to chew better. Maybe in a few months I'll feel up to exploring that. So glad your visit went well.

    1. Thanks, Barbara. I understand about waiting until you're ready to handle it. Sometimes you have to take one thing at a time.

  6. Oh my! How horrible the coyote got in your fence! And that poor kitten, but what a smart move! I hope you can figure out something.
I am not a dentist person. I went for a root canal consultation once and almost passed out.

    1. Miss Merry, you made me laugh. I thought I was bad, but almost passing out during a consult is kinda funny. I shouldn't laugh though as my heart starts beating fast as soon as I walk into the dental office.
