Grand daughter's First Easter...

Going to extend my Grandmother's privileges... couldn't let the week go by without recording new grand daughter's First Easter.  She didn't know what was going on, but seemed to enjoy all the bright colors. At 4 months she is coo-ing and trying her best to 'talk' - comes out sounding a bit like 'dolphin sounds' but of course it's adorable to us.  Son and DIL record her efforts and send them to us via iPhone along with videos and photos. Wish we had that technology when our kids were young ( I'd love to hear their first little voices again).  I will say that she seems to have perfected 'the raspberry'...

Other grand kids were down in the hill country enjoying Easter at my daughter's.  But the cats here also had a good Easter. Jack was feeling better and even though it thundered and rained Easter morning, the sun came out by afternoon so we were able to take a walk (with the stroller) around the neighborhood. And  the outside cats, who hang about on the back covered porch when it rains, were able to get out and romp in the grass.

Now it's already Thursday and probably time to start thinking about putting away all the little bunnies and chicks that have popped up here and there this past week.  However, there's no hurry... right?

My friend gave me a new recipe that she thought I'd like... a meatball and spinach or kale pizza. I'm thinking about trying it with tiny meat balls and fresh baby spinach leaves on one side and just meatballs on the other (boys are not spinach fans, but I am). It has cheese and a white sauce (not red) so-oo it sounds interesting. Will let you know how it goes over.

I also crocheted  another 'slouchy hat'.  This one actually fits. With our Alaskan Cruise only a few weeks away, I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row. I used some old yarn that I already had at home and it seems to go well enough with my blue fleece vest...

Another post I read today mentioned encyclopedias and reminded me of our old set that I grew up with... Richards Topical Encyclopedia copyright 1933.  Took a picture to post here. I loved this old set growing up. Spent many a day perusing through it. Now... we no longer need encyclopedias for information since we have the Internet which is fast and efficient.  But when you love books, it's hard not to miss them.

and couldn't close this without a cat pic!

    1. Me too, Olga. She stares at your mouth and then tries her hardest to 'talk' to you...

  3. Love the photo of GD surrounded in easter bits ...so gorgeous.
So much in this great post ...so glad Jack is on the mend.
I used to have a set of encycopedias, as a child, that had been my mum's in her teens ....I spent many happy hours thumbing through them ...it was only when I was in my teens that I realized that the scientific info was out of date ...but the rest was still interesting....sadly mum threw them out when I got married. Although the internet is amazing for information it really is not the same pleasure.xx

    1. I hadn't thought of those encyclopedias in a long while... and yes, the info is really outdated, but now THAT makes it even more interesting...

    1. They are 'little joys'... but they mean so very much. I read a quote from Mother Teresa once that said, "Man was not meant to do great things... only little things with great love".

  6. Rian, Your granddaughter is adorable. Oh how I wish I had more grandchildren! How lucky that you still have your encyclopedias. You can travel down memory lane whenever the spirit m oves you.

    1. I had almost forgotten about those encyclopedias until I read the blog that mentioned them. I find reading each others' blogs jogs memories of things forgotten.

  7. Rian, she is just gorgeous, and I would bet that her raspberry is exceptional! What a cutie, and the bunnies and encyclopedias brought back all kinds of memories for me, too. Sending you big hugs :-)

    1. Thanks, DJan. Her raspberry is the cutest thing! And her smile makes my heart explode... (that sounds a bit dramatic, but it does do 'something wonderful' to my heart).

    1. They are both precious. And I have been catching up on reading your blogs too. I would love to see some of those pictures you took. And I'm not totally up on what you do... but apparently you sell and mail seeds (got this from your rant on the Post Office)? And your car sounds fantastic!

  9. What a happy looking little grand...and cute too. A baby in the family brings so much joy...I understand that special unexplainable feeling in the heart. I get it with my grands too. I sure miss books. The world ahead will eventually be bookless except for collectors...sad
