Shelly on the move... and other things

This is a video of Shelly, one of our backyard Box Turtles. She is quite active... as you can see.  Obstacles do not bother her. She just keeps going.  Good model for us all.

Next are just a few shots of cats around the house:

Molly and Jack on sofa

Tux on chair

and the following is the Pumpkin Custard Pie I made this past weekend.

Update:  Black feral cat that stays in front yard has brought her 3 kittens over to the front porch.  They sleep in the bushes and play on the porch.  Looks like they are about 5 weeks old as they move pretty fast.  This is past the age when we can usually catch them, but apparently she had them down the street and just moved them here this past week.  The following is not a good pic since it was taken through the bay window, but you can see one kitten fairly well.

  1. The turtle is pretty darned determined; good for her! :-)

Yes, I can see one kitten, such a cutie. It would be lovely if you were able to get them, fingers crossed. Nicki was found feral at 8 - 10 weeks!

And I'll take a piece of that pie--I LOVE pumpkin and LOVE custard, so imagine that is sooooo yummy!

    1. The pumpkin custard pie IS good. I'm not a fan of plain pumpkin because most of the time it is too strongly spiced (for me) and it is generally made with canned pumpkin (which has a stronger flavor). I make a normal custard pie to which I add 3/4 cup of cooked fresh pumpkin... and it has a very mild pumpkin flavor.

  2. A little cutie. Too bad there isn't a really reliable way of nabbing the little guys. I enticed my current house cat with the kitty app on a smart phone, but he was only four weeks--and abandoned.

    1. I know. Usually we can catch them when they are just starting to walk... on wobbly legs. These are the ones that go to the Adoption Center. Once they get to 6 weeks or more living outside, they are FAST. They as well as their moms do learn to come close enough to eat... but most won't let you *touch* them.

  3. How did you know I am hungry? Now I am doubly so! That pie looks simply delicious. And the little kitties? Mama knows you are going to help her, I'll bet.

  4. Yes, Mama *knows*... the whole neighborhood of feral cats know.

  5. I love box turtles!
I'd like to put the video on my blog if it's okay with you.
I wish I could have a slice of that pie.

    1. We love box turtles too. And sure, you can put the video on your site. I'll have to show you a video on my grand daughter's African Sulcata sometime. Big Boy wasn't actually hers, but they kept him for about 2 years while his family was traveling. He was about 12 inches round and had quite a personality...
