Wow! Knocked for a loop today. Got a Tetanus shot yesterday due to a wound I got in San Antonio from a rusty screen door. Wound looks fine, no redness, no infection... but it's been a while since I've had a Tetanus injection... so to be safe I went in for one.
Didn't feel too well this morning. Expected my arm to be sore, but didn't expect to feel so tired, achy, low grade fever, etc.
Had my annual appointment with my Oncologist today and when he asked me how I was feeling, I told him... "usually great, but this morning... not so much". He said that the Tetanus injection was usually combined with other things and that it wasn't unusual for me to feel this way for a day or so while the body reacts to the vaccine.
Good to know. I came home, took a Tylenol with a cup of tea and slept the day away.
(The cartoon at the top reminded me that I had to pay to have a test run because no one was sure if Medicare would pay for it... said they 'might'... but probably not.)
I've been not so great healing from a root canal; I hope you are all better today.
ReplyDeleteOh, Terra... I have had those and really hope never to have to have another. Hope you feel better soon.
DeleteI think I read that the tetanus is combined with other stuff I think these combo shots are too potent for most folks; hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteWell, apparently it was too potent for me. Still feeling weird...
DeleteI hope you feel better today! My last tetanus booster, a couple of years ago, was combined with the diphtheria vaccine. I don't know if that would have been the case for you. I don't recall being under the weather, but then, I don't remember last week either. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, but I think the tetanus booster is combined with diphtheria and pertussis... but I will find out. Feeling better today.
DeleteI had a mild reaction to a tetanus shot last year, so it's not unusual. But I do hope you're feeling better sooner rather than later, Rian. :-)
ReplyDeleteI looked up the reactions that could occur from the Tetanus shot and sure enough, tired, headache, soreness, low grade fever were there. What bothers me is that my jaw is still sore (but probably TMJ as I have no other symptoms). My wound is almost totally healed.
DeleteI hate getting knocked for a loop like that. Feel better soon. Tea and a long nap sound like the way to go under the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteOlga, it's been the way to go for 3 days now... but I do feel better. My jaw still hurts, but I'm guessing it's TMJ.
DeleteDon't understand the combination in the tetanus shot? That is a big assumption that a person needing the tetanus shot would automatically need the other two. Now I know if I need a booster to be sure and ask them what all else is in the shot. Sure hope you are feeling much better soon.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if they didn't combine them, we'd never get the others??? (Probably true in my case)
DeleteSince Medicare is under more attach these days you are lucky you got care. I hate that we live in a country where medical aide is a luxury for the rich.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I love Medicare and don't know what we'd do without it. However, it seems lately they are being more strict about what tests they will pay for. In my case, since there is so much cancer in my family, the Oncologist wanted to run a CA125 (which they have done occasionally in the past and medicare paid). Apparently they don't anymore unless there is a "specific" reason for it (???). Anyway, I went ahead and paid to have it done.
DeleteHope you are feeling better by now.
ReplyDeleteYes, better... but not completely myself. Thanks.
DeleteOooh, that doesn't sound good. Take care of yourself and I hope this will be pass soon.
ReplyDeleteEileen
Thanks, Eileen. As of Sunday, I'm back to feeling fine again... jaw still sore, but hasn't gotten any worse.
