I haven't felt well this week. Don't know if its due to a bug, stress, or just plain ol' old age. For the last few days I have had my lower back ache, head ache, and have been extremely tired... so much so that I have spent the days taking Tylenol and sleeping. Luckily since we're retired, I have the both the time and the ability to do this.
Although I'm feeling better today, I didn't have the energy to go to the pottery studio... just wasn't in me to get up and go. And since it's nasty, rainy, and cold, I'm better off here at home.
This afternoon I decided to make a recipe that I've seen on cooking shows, but never tried. It didn't seem difficult... and wasn't. So tonight we're having Beef Stroganoff. I'll let you know how it turns out. I have to say that its made with either cream sherry or brandy and I had to taste both to decide which to use. Liked both, but chose the cream sherry. I wonder how it would taste with bourbon? I have cooked with bourbon before and it was very good... maybe next time.
Well, the cookings done and now I'm ready for a nap. So I may possibly take a tiny bit of the cream sherry and grab a book... so much for my day.
Humph....
Oh well...
Thanks for reading! And feel free to take a nap if the mood strikes you!
The photos of your younger selves are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHey, I LOVE naps! I've been sneaking in naps whenever possible since I was young. I don't get enough, and I certainly don't sleep well at night (OMG, the hot flashes right now....!). Anyway, I hope the rest does you good and that you feel more energetic again too.
Enjoy your yummy beef stroganoff!
Oh, Kim.. my daughter is having difficulties with the hot flashes too right now... so I feel for you. (I had a complete OHE at 34, so never really had to deal with that.)
DeleteAnd yes, I'm doing better. If my energy doesn't return, I will have my blood checked. I know that my Vit D level is low (11).
The beef stroganoff was good... but next time I will use a better cut of meat. I used stew meat when the recipe called for sirloin.
Funny, I took one before supper. Felt good, but so will going to bed tonight.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Joanne... both naps and an early bedtime work well for me. Of course I use these times to read also, so I look forward to it.
DeleteDid you get my email about the fox drops Rian?

I did, Briony, thanks. I'm looking into it. I just wish I could find out what was in the homeopathic drops... and so far, haven't been able to discover that from the websites.
DeleteBeef Stogranoff sounds good on a cool, rainy day. I hope you are feeling better soon and less fatigued. It might be worth a visit to your doctor for a check-up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was a good recipe and I will try use it again... using a better cup of meat.
DeleteSometimes the best thing to do is just nothing at all. Especially when it's dark, dreary, cold and wet to stay home all day in jammies and robe drinking coffee or tea and reading is just heavenly. Give yourself a break and take it easy.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. Some days are made for stay at home and rest - with a book and a cup of tea by the fire if possible.
DeleteHope you see the doctor if this does not go away in 24 hours or so! At our age we have to be a bit of hypochondriac.
ReplyDeleteI tend to give myself a week to 10 days to recoup before calling a doctor. Usually this works for me. But I do understand that at our age we have to be careful.
DeleteI have an old sofa in my kitchen and most times when we come in from shopping we dump the bags down and flop on the sofa, heads back for an hour before unpacking them, that's what shopping does to us now, lol

We don't have a sofa in the kitchen, but we usually do have a cup of tea or coffee upon returning home from shopping.
DeleteCracked up at the "Go on without me" pose. Been there a couple of times. Sure hope your malaise leaves you soon. Till it does, listen to your body and get that rest.
ReplyDeleteYes, I cracked up with that pic too... a bit overdone, but funny and fit my mood!
DeleteI hope that one day soon you'll wake up from sleep refreshed and raring to go. Otherwise, I do hope you see the doctor to find out what's up. I care about you! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan. I haven't awoke 'raring to go' in a long time, but I definitely am doing better. Thanks for your concern. I certainly appreciate it.
DeleteSorry I'm always three days late reading your posts. Hope you are feeling better by now. That "go on without me" is really cute. I've felt that way many times. I love the pictures of you. You were so pretty and still are. You still look like you did then.
ReplyDeleteAm feeling much better, thank you... and you are sweet.
DeleteDear Rian, I think that I've recently become an ambassador of naps! I'm recommending them to everyone. In fact, I seem to go to sleep faster at night if I've had a nap during the day.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling much better. The low energy and the fatigue can be part of aging, but also I think they can signal that perhaps we truly need to rest before getting some virus or bug or being forced to lie low for days! Hope the entree tonight with the sherry tastes delicious! And that the resting with book and sherry is even better! Peace.
I don't know what it was, Dee... but I slept the days away. Am feeling better... but still napping when warranted. My Vitamin D level has been low over the years and my blood pressure is sometimes very low (low normal) 115/59 which may account for being tired or having low energy on occasion. But I usually bounce back.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed a tiny bit of the cream sherry! Can't do much of any type of wine due to my tendency to migraines.
