Found disinfecting wipes!

Life is strange. Yesterday (Saturday) morning we are over the moon because grandson just texted that he found us some disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer. Who would have thought this would make us so happy just a few weeks ago?

Well, if you don't laugh, you'll cry... and I prefer to laugh.

Now, what can I talk about today that will 'lighten up' these dark days?

We 'Skyped' for the first time Friday afternoon with youngest son and grand daughter who is 7. That was weird, but fun! I guess I'm showing my age - but to be able to see and talk to family from afar is still amazing for me. Even our DIL came in from work while we were skyping (she is a nurse working in the infectious disease department at the hospital). She was exhausted, but popped onto the screen to say hello.

Now it's Sunday morning. I texted with some family and a few friends yesterday. One told me that her daughter had just flew back from California and had decided to go straight home whether than stop and spend a few days with parents here... just to be safe. I thought this was a very good move on daughter's part.

Another is a family member in Louisiana who said how glad she was that she was able to visit Italy last summer before all this craziness started.

OK... now on to another subject:

I am working on clay projects... well, really just more Cheeky Chickens as I only have so much clay at home. Some clay and tools are still locked up in the studio on the closed college campus.

So, here I will share my work station (in the front room):

You might have to enlarge to see chickens in progress

and here's a close up of some of the ones I've just sculpted:

These still have to dry and then be underglazed... (and if this sheltering at home lasts very long, my flock will be HUGE!)

...and just for fun - here are the Pychedelic sisters:

Psychedelic Sister Chicks in their Easter plumage!

Going to close this with a picture of one of our outside feral cats and a possum eating outside the patio door... (actually there were 2 cats and several possums there before I ran to get my camera. Some ran off when they saw me. These 2 brave ones remained.)

That's it for today. Please self-isolate and stay well!

Hugs,
Rian
(Remember when I had all that white space on my post a while back and couldn't make it go away. Now... when I 'view' my post, I see this word 'todday' at the bottom??? When I go to the 'edit' section, it won't let me go there to delete it... strange. Please just ignore it.)

Todday

  1. I smiled a bit when I saw your first photo. I just put out a picture of the puzzle I've been working on. It would seem that puzzles are popular right now! Cute chickens, as always. -Jenn

    1. Jenn, I'm not a puzzle person myself. They make me nauseous. DH likes them. He has several huge ones (usually ships) he's completed and made frames for upstairs. But our DIL in Hawaii gave us this one (of cats) and I thought I'd bring it out so he could work on it while watching TV. Occasionally I will look at it... and add a piece here and there.

  2. You're having fun with this blog...I'm no help and I just get frustrated when mine is being a pain.

Love the colorful chickens! As for Skype, I Facetime with my grandson at least once a week. He runs me all over the house talking up a storm and showing me things. It's fun!

    Stay well!

    1. Blogger has been acting up a bit. Sometimes it doesn't want to go down past a certain point and it's difficult to click on the needed spot. But in the great scheme of things, it's no more than an inconvenience at this point. As long as I can still post and read blogs, I'm good.

  3. Think how self reliant we may all become.

    1. That's probably true, Joanne. But I'm not sure I want to be that self reliant. Have you been enjoying Instagram? My grand daughter uses it as well as several others. Facebook is my only experience with social networks... and that's to keep up with family members in Louisiana who use it almost daily.

  4. Those chickens are just the whimsy needed to keep one optimitic. Wishing I had some creative project going. Maybe I should drag out that 30-year-old needlework and finish it!

    1. Thanks Tabor, chickens are fun... both real and artsy. They make me smile. I sent my daughter (who raises chickens) a video from Pinterest of this chicken jumping up and down trying to get a fruit from a low branch... funny just to watch! And yes, you should drag out that project... or start a new one!

  5. Seeing the cheeky chickens, the pretty feral cat looking in your door window, and the cute possum is enough to cheer up my day. I've been meaning to buy a puzzle, but keep forgetting to, darn it!

    1. Henny, so glad I could do something to cheer up your day. These days are so scary that it's good to lighten up when we can. The puzzle is getting there... DH works hard on it. But I just found 2 more pieces! That's my contribution for the day.

  6. It's the little things that will get us through and maybe afterwards we will appreciate them more. Take good care.

  8. You really do have some excellent shut in tools for coping. Making cutie pie chickens or writing on that book I am anxious to read. So far I am doing fine but it has only been a week. Lets hope this thing has a short life.

    1. Oh... if only, Patti (pertaining to 'hope this thing has a short life'). But I don't think so. I think we're in for a long haul. However I also hope I'm wrong. But between the chickens, my book, and house cleaning, I do find a lot to do. I may start quilting again.. or crocheting. But please keep blogging. Reading and writing blogs helps keep us all connected during this shelter at home time.

  9. Cheeky Chickens is such a clever name for those little cuties.

I have not tried Skyping yet but before the summer is over I imagine a lot of us will get hooked on it.
