North Texas reporting in...

Just checking in. We're still here... although from all the news reports we are
 'old and compromised'

but not to make light of a serious situation,
 we are doing our part:

1. Staying home as much as possible
2. Not traveling
3. Avoiding crowds and/or sick people
4. Washing our hands well and often
(trying not to touch our face)
5. Not stockpiling or hoarding,  but do have enough water, soup, tp, and tea for about 2 weeks
6. Carrying sanitizer to use when touching surfaces (opening doors, etc.)

Did I miss anything?

Since both of us have had the big C... and DH is now undergoing radiation, we are being careful. However, I've had a cough for 20 years... which my doctors have called a 'radiation cough' - likely due to an effect on my lungs or heart due to radiation. But my cough is not contageous. However, coughing these days around people can really empty an aisle... so I try not to... but I'm not always successful. I'm not sick... but who's to know.

My Oncologist sent us a email message this week reiterating all the things the CDC has been saying. I also got the impression that we should put off annual exams (even dentals and eye appts) for the time being unless there is a present concern that needs to be addressed.

My hope is that this virus is seasonal (like the flu) and that if we can prevent the spread as much as possible now,  it will peak and go away as the weather warms.

Anyway, right now I'm praying for all those that are affected - that they are well taken care of and will recover soon.

Stay well! Take Care! And thanks for visiting.

Adding a few pics of one of the outside feral cats and his conversation with a squirrel.

Might have to enlarge pic...

Hugs,
Rian

  1. Don't forget about handling money and washing up after you do. I do it without thinking, but now I'm being very careful.

    1. Handling money - that's one I don't think about. I'll try to remember that. Thanks, DJan. Of course we hardly ever have money on us... just a debit card. Guess I should sanitize that after it goes through the machine. Oh, and watch your hands when pumping gas!

  2. I'm glad you're both okay. I tend not to have money, but I take public transit daily and that's a hotbed of germs. And it's not like the buses are cleaned properly. I'm a bit paranoid at the moment, but am doing my best to keep my hands clean and away from my face. I hope the virus ebbs soon. My uncle is in northern Italy, healthy right now and I hope he stays that way (lives there with his wife). My dad actually has cancelled his trip there, had booked to travel in early April.

Take care and stay as healthy as possible!

    1. Kim, take lysol wipes with you on the bus. We actually had another passenger on the plane hand us some wipes when we were all being seated going to Hawaii... and that was before all this was going on. My friend's son and his wife are suppose to go to Italy this month. I really hope they don't. And I hope your father postpones his trip. Better safe than sorry. And you take care!

  3. Isn't amazing how often we touch our faces, especially when trying to be careful about not doing it. I have not changed my daily routines very much but I am suddenly very conscious of who might have touched what.
    May we all stay healthy.

    1. I tend to rub my eyes a lot... try not to do so, but a hard habit to break. Stay well Olga!

  4. We stay mostly at home but I try to be careful when we go out. Opening and closing the doors in public rest rooms is especially scary.

    1. Yes, I tend to take a paper towel with me after washing my hands and use it to open the door. Don't know if it helps, but seems sensible.

  5. Washing hands and wiping surfaces is really all we can do right now. Keeping an exercise regime and taking meds is also something they recommend. We could have it so much worse. I am thankful.

    1. I agree, Tabor. We do what we can... and hope for the best.

  6. Yes, avoiding touching one's face is a tough thing to do. I have a bad habit of leaning on my hand when I'm sitting watching television. But like you, I'm trying. I'd saying you are doing what you can, and that's all any of us can do.

    Stay well!

    1. I do that too, Mae... lean on my hands, rub my eyes, etc. But I'm trying to avoid doing this. Sometimes it works.

  7. I may practice clearing an aisle by coughing. Sounds like a useful accomplishment. You stay well.

    1. LOL, Joanne. It does work... but a little embarrassing.

  8. I am doing pretty much what I do each seasonal flu season. I have compromised lungs so I have to be careful of even a cold. Know what you mean about coughing. I was at the doctor's office when a out of the blue a dry cough hit me. I kept apologizing and as soon as I left I stopped. Think it might have been an anxiety cough but I am sure the others in the waiting room weren't amused.

    1. I know, it's embarrassing... and the more you try 'not to cough' the more you cough. People who know me know it's a radiation cough and that I'm not sick, but out in public... people move away. I carry water and cough drops.

  9. Dear Rian, so glad that you are being cautious. I have an ongoing sinus cough and know what you mean about emptying aisles. When I'm with people, I always explain that I'm not contagious. Still, it's hard to know when we are, given that Corona's symptoms don't show up for a few days. Please do take care. Peace.

  10. Same here, over 70 and vulnerable it’s called here. Steroids, asthma, heart disease, all under control and not making life difficult with medication, but vulnerable, nevertheless. I am taking care of myself, if I don’t nobody else will.
Good luck to all of us.

    1. We stay home for the most part... stopped walking at the mall, aren't going out to eat, etc. But... we do have to grocery shop. I don't usually keep a lot on hand... but now we're shopping earlier when its less crowded. (And washing our hands a lot!)

  12. I know about the coughing. Maybe you could wear a little sign and just point to it or better yet, didn't people with leprosy have to carry around a little bell to ring when they approached people?

Just kidding. It's hard not really knowing exactly what to do and whether it will make a significant difference and how much preparedness is sensible and what constitutes pointless panic.

    1. All that is true, Vic. Don't think I'll wear a bell or a sign (yet), but a little caution is a good idea. And panic is no help at all.
