Keeping this post light...

I've decided that I should probably journal about this Covid-19 Pandemic on a daily basis for my own record, but not here on this blog. This blog was originally meant to share our wonderful retirement adventures.

Granted this Pandemic is part of that (it certainly is an adventure), but not the type I want to dwell on. Actually it falls into the category I found myself in when I was told I had Cancer 20 years ago. It's like a club you never wanted to join... but you're in it never-the-less. This year DH joined the club.

Anyway, I digress. If you are interested in reading my daily journal, I've put it on "My Mulberry Days" blog... a blog I started and kind of drifted away from. I will try to write on this journal daily and post every 2 days.

But here on "Older but better..." I want to share good thoughts and happy times. I want to believe that in a few weeks (or months) this will be all behind us... and we will be stronger and better prepared for the next catastrophe (global or otherwise). Breathe in, breath out, move on....

While I was dusting my china cabinet today, I took down this Royal Albert tea set. It's called "Moonlight Rose" and it really is pretty. Since its rim is gold, it can't go into the microwave or the dishwasher, so is seldom used anymore. Thought I'd have tea in it this afternoon to boost my spirits. I collect pretty cups and saucers  (or did over the years) and I enjoyed using them by myself or for an event like a baby shower, etc.

I did have a tea buddy who used to come over every Wednesday for tea... but she passed away a few years ago. She was 86 and a wonderful woman. I still miss her.

Now a dear friend of mine and I have 'virtual' tea once a week and text or put our phones on speaker. We used to meet at my house or LaMadeleine's... but that was before we were all self-isolating.

Here are a few little items that I was dusting off from our china cabinet.

Finky Mouse
finger puppets

turtle salt and pepper

All silly little things that were given to me... (and I love them)

But will start passing them down to my children or grandchildren to do with them what they will...

This is it for today. Just a silly posting about nothing important... just sharing a few little things that give me joy.

Oh... and just another nice little thing that happened yesterday - our next door neighbor came by to see if we were alright. They are in their 40's or 50's and have college aged kids. I asked him is he was checking on his 'elderly' neighbors. He laughed and said that he would be glad to run errands for us. So thoughtful... does do your heart good.

Take care of yourselves, stay well,  and as always thanks for reading.

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. I'm glad you brought out the china and are using it. And that you're able to have a virtual "tea" with your friend, weekly. One of the reporters said today that we need to start calling this physical distance, not "social" distance, so that we remember we still CAN connect socially, just in other ways.

    Stay safe and be well.

    1. Guess he may be right... it is 'physical' distancing. And we are so lucky to have the ability to visit virtually. Please keep blogging, Kim. I want to keep in touch with you and Derry.

  2. Thank you, Rian. I'll go check out your other blog. I am trying to isolate myself as much as possible, but being a social animal, it's really hard. Fortunately I've got my virtual friends, like you. :-)

    1. Actually, DJan, I don't mind the physical distancing so much... not as long as we can still communicate. Virtual visiting through text, email, and blogging may bring us even closer during this awful time. My youngest son just suggested Skype so we can keep in touch with grand daughter who is 7. Going to try it this afternoon.

  3. Very cute trinkets. I especially like the finger puppet mice. I actually have a similar one in a red dress that I bring out with Christmas decorations.

    1. Olga, my dad used to play with my children when they were young with a little toy mouse. These remind me of him...

  4. Yes, a world wide club that we now all belong to. I smiled when I saw your china set. I have Royal Albert Old Country Roses. It rarely gets used, maybe just for very special occasions. I am now thinking I will arrange with my daughter who is in the city to skype with me and we'll have tea (or coffee) together at a set time. Thanks for giving me that idea! -Jenn

    1. Hi Jenn, I also have one cup in my collection of Old Country Roses. I tried to collect one cup and saucer set of each pattern that I liked. And yes, do use your pretty cups. I find it brightens the day.

    1. Thanks, LC! I hope you are staying well. Thinking of your post about Mardi Gras costumes.
We are from New Orleans and our family remain there. They were so lucky this year that Mardi Gras was a nice day... no bad weather and definitely no closures due to this awful virus.

  8. Cute items from the china cabinet. I don't I've ever seen that pattern of Royal Albert. At one time I had a couple of pieces but I suspect they were broken by small children or in a move at some point.

    Take care, stay well!

    1. Mae, I don't have a full set of anything... just a tea set of Midnight Rose and a few other miscellaneous cups and saucers. I like things eclectic. And the few pieces of crystal I have left are really a mismatch of styles... and many were broken as the years went by - by little (and big) hands.

    1. Thanks, I do too. It's a shame people just don't use things like this much anymore.

    1. Thanks, Anni. We need to find things to 'feel good' about these days. BTW, I love your pictures... even though I don't always comment.

  11. Love those cute little critters. Also like the idea of the virtual tea. Might start doing that with a friend. My neighbors are also checking in on me. This will bring out the worst in some but the best in most.
    Stay safe and well.

    1. It's been a true wake-up call, Patti. We were getting so obsessed with politics, money, and blame... now, we're all working together on survival.

    1. Thanks, Henny. The story behind that tea set is that years ago I gave it to my mother-in-law for a gift. She and I are probably the only ones who used it back then. When she passed away in 2016 (at 98), she wanted me to have it. So it's not only pretty, but stores lots of memories.
