Apple Pear Pecan coffee cake
We received a basket of fruit recently with apples, pears, oranges, cheese, nuts, and crackers. Now we eat fruit, but not a lot... so I thought I'd use it up by making an apple and pear coffee cake. Found a great recipe for one and made it memorial day. Turned out really good!
Hope all of you had a nice memorial day. Ours was quiet as we are still staying home... and intend to continue to do so for a while.

I'm continuing to make the cone-shaped masks. They are a lot more comfortable than the others, but I still haven't figured out how to add a filter to these...

Funny story:
DH and I just came back from getting our groceries at curb-side pickup. Central Market does a great job with this... fast service and helpers are masked and practice social distancing. And they are almost always good about getting our orders right (maybe a few subsitutions or not availables). Anyhow, once home and putting things away (after disinfecting) I realized that we had a lot more potatoes than I'd ordered. There's only the 3 of us, so I only ordered .5 lbs of small red potatoes (thinking this was probably about 4 small ones to add to a roast). But I got 5 lbs of potatoes!
Not knowing what I was going to do with 5 lbs of potatoes, I called to let CM know about the mistake... not planning to return anything... just to let them know. I'd do 'something' with them. But the girl I spoke to laughed and said for us to share them with our neighbors and she would credit us for the mistake. Thought that was nice of her and we ended up giving half of the order to our neighbors next door!

Finished the crochet baby blanket I was working on.
Now I've started another. Was following a pattern that I thought was using a simple single and double crochet... but realized later that it was supposed to be a double treble (dtr). Since I've already done several rows (and kind of like the looks of the pattern created) decided to stick with it.
This is what the pattern I'm mistakingly using looks like:
... and so life goes on during this strange time, talking, texting, Skyping, and I will be using Zoom for the first time this coming Saturday. The women from my pottery class decided to do this. We had been texting for a bit, but someone suggested using Zoom.
One last thing to mention here. Perhaps it's age-related, but I'm not sure. Have you ever found something that you always kept in one place missing? Looked all over for it, gave up... and then one day (or possibly weeks later) it shows up right where it was supposed to be in the first place?
I have had this happen on several occasions. I call it the 'mystery disappearances'... just wondering if this happens to anyone else.
Ok... I'm late getting this post out. But hope you all had a good Memorial weekend, stay home and stay safe!
Hugs,
Rian

Your days sound rather similar to mine. I am having groceries delivered and I see you are driving to pick them up. Maybe I am getting lazy! They make a few tiny mistakes with my orders but are quite brilliant in getting it right overall.
ReplyDeleteTerra, this curb-side pickup is new to us... but it's pretty simple... and it actually gives us a reason to get out of the house. You don't get out of your car and you don't roll down your windows... so it's pretty safe for distancing.
DeleteIt's such as you learn my thoughts! You appear to grasp so much about this, such as you wrote the guide in it or something. I feel that you just could do with some percent to force the message house a bit, but instead of that, that is wonderful blog. A fantastic read. I will definitely be back. You can visit my site: tecteem.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting. I will check out your site soon.
Deleteoh I put things in a safe place only to forget where that safe place is; you are putting me to shame with all you are doing, maybe I'll get motivated from your post; I do plan to cut dh hair, we shall see how that turns out. lol
ReplyDeleteI cut DH's hair about a week ago, and he cut mine... just straight off the lengths. All 3 of us need haircuts bad... but not ready to do this just yet.
DeleteOh, Rian -- at least one other person that happens to! I often ask out loud, now who snuck into my house and took the ______?
ReplyDeleteI am just learning how to crochet since the knitting that I used to do just kills my wrist anymore. So far crochet seems enough of a different motion that it doesn't bother so much and I keep my efforts to small projects.
Crochet and knitting are supposed to be good for arthritis... but I know that knitting sometimes bothers my wrist too.
DeleteYes, it does happen to me. Yesterday I hunted all over for my glasses, and they were almost impossible to find, until I realized I was already wearing them! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that, DJan! (ha!) For weeks I've been missing a plastic box of threads that I use for quilting. Looked all over for them... couldn't imagine why they wouldn't be with my quilting stuff. Gave up. Happened to walk by the rocker yesterday in the front room (which has some piles of quilting on it... and THERE THEY WERE! Just sitting there??
DeleteThe baby blanket is so pretty! Happy accident. :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a visitor playing pranks, moving items around on you. Just the other day, when I went to the back yard I found one of the deck chairs in front of the door, along with the can my son puts his cigarette butts in. Later, I asked him why he left the chair there and he said he didn't, he thought I had (I don't smoke). I'd like to think it was my mom come to visit as she smoked but how it got there will remain a mystery!
It does make you wonder, Mae. And I always suspect that DH moved something and forgot... but who knows? I've inadvertently put things in strange places before. We found the little yellow soap pads that I sanitize in the microwave in the refrig once??? Did I do that??
DeleteI have fabric for masks but no elastic, so it still sits on the table. I finally broke down and bought some cloth masks on the Internet but they will not arrive until mid June!!
ReplyDeleteTabor, I also had fabric, but no elastic for a long time. A friend finally got hold of some and mailed me some... but I'm almost out. If I find any, I will be glad to share with you.
DeleteThat happens to me, too. Strangest thing ever. It's gone and then it's there. What the heck? I always blame it on Myrtle, my imaginary ghost.
ReplyDeleteHa! Could very well be your imaginary ghost. It happens fairly often. I always tell DH... "uh.. we've got another mystery" when it happens. My mom (when she lived with us) would blame it on the cat.
DeleteHey unless it is a flat iron missing, you can't rule out the cat. Hasn't happened to me yet but somehow I won't be too surprised when it does.
ReplyDeleteSome cats do hide things. Jack used to hide his pills. We’d pill him and later find his pill hidden under something.
DeleteYour completed crochet project is beautiful. Makes me miss my late mother-in-law who like you blessed friends and relatives with lovely and useful crocheted items.
DeleteSo many retailers are doing that now; give it to someone and here is our credit. I think it's great.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a nice gesture, Joanne. I think for the most part, people are being very nice to each other...
Deletethat was a great use for the fruit, that's what i would have done. we are the same, we like fruit but we don't eat a ton of it!! and how lucky are we to have google and pinterest???
ReplyDeletei could get rid of 5 lbs of potatoes in a week, and it is only 2 of us...we are potato people!!
the blanket is really beautiful and i like the second one...now you are writing patterns!! hehehehe
It was great use for the fruit.... we finished that coffee cake in 2 days!
DeleteWe usually buy 2 potatoes (baking) or 4 red potatoes a week... for the 3 of us. Same with onions - 1 yellow, 1 purple. Otherwise, they all go bad to quickly. But we do like potatoes, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, potato salad, etc.
