Getting through the day...

OK, I don't know about you, but I find myself switching from one project to another during the day - occasionally stopping to wash dishes or sweep/mop floors (that is, when my back co-operates).

But at the moment,  I'm sewing face masks again.  More people seem to want them, so I might as well have a few made and ready for use. While I'm at it and have so little to post about, I think I'll just add a few pics of what my 'craft' room (really my front living room) looks like.

And that's just the sewing areas.  There's also this... to the right of my sewing machine.

where I dabble with sketching and watercolor

and over on the shelves, I have pottery still awaiting firing...

(obviously this is a very 'multi-purpose' room)

Updates

My back is doing better. Walking without difficulty, but sitting down and getting up still a little tricky.

And the feral cats out back are getting more accustomed to the 2 cat trees on the back porch. We saw 2 of them playing on them recently and one that has decided it's his favorite place. Even one of the kittens was climbing around on one yesterday.  I'll try to get some pics...

Outside of that, life goes on... our 'new normal' is becoming 'the norm'. We don't go out to eat at restaurants as was the plan for this summer - not since the Delta variant continues to show it's ugly face. But we do 'do take-out' (which we hadn't done previously due to our mistrust of how people behind the scenes handle the food). We do continue to wear our masks, wash our hands, etc. and worry about family and friends that are not vaccinated a bit more now with the hospitals filling up with more unvaccinated - and at younger ages.

I read someone's post on Facebook the other day about how the schools don't allow peanut butter on school grounds because it could cause serious problems for even one allergic child - yet people are in conflict over requiring masks for kids/adults in school - even though only a small percentage could get sick and die from contracting the virus. Where is the logic here? If even one child/adult could be saved by simply wearing a mask, why wouldn't they require it? (Again... it's just how I look at it. I realize some don't see it like this)

Going to close now. Wishing all of you a nice Sunday and hopefully a good week ahead. I suggest we all pray for our world - and if you don't like the word pray, then think good thoughts for as I've said before, I do believe that thoughts and prayers are powerful - more powerful than people realize.

Hugs (virtual),

Rian

  1. Nicely populated, I would say of your craft room.

    1. yes... not a designer show room by any means... a bit eclectic, but a useful multi-purpose area that suits me.

  2. We are eating out, but not often. Our state is now 80% vaccinated which is amazing. I agree that wearing a mask is reasonable and maybe we just need to invent better and more comfortable masks.

    1. Thanks, Olga. I wish I had more interesting nature photos to share, but don't get out much these days.

  4. I do think prayer and positive thoughts make a difference, and I am trying to remember that I am not alone on this lifeboat. Your posts (and wonderful masks) really make my day, Rian. Sending you lots of virtual hugs and positive thoughts.

    1. Same here, DJan. Virtual hugs and positive thoughts to you also. We simply have to make the best of our individual situations - you have your nature hikes which bring you joy (and which I love to share virtually) and I have my basically house-bound activities that bring me joy in creating (why? I don't know, but they do).

  5. Doing very much like you with Covid precautions and was delighted when my county went to the mandate for masks in schools. It just makes sense.

    1. I think so too, Patti. We all need to pull together to get through this pandemic... and anything that has 'the possibility' of saving someone's life needs to be given serious thought.

  6. Your living room looks homey and comfortable, a place where you are surrounded by items that you love and create.

Your thoughts on the pandemic are the same as mine. We aren't out of the woods yet, so doing the basic things along with getting vaccinated are so important to the health and safety of our children.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I think you do a great job keeping busy too. And you are right, those watercolor sketches are not new. I have done a little sketching recently, but haven't played around with my watercolors in a while. They just sit there by my sewing machine awaiting attention.
And I agree that it seems like some people just 'want conflict'... and thrive on it. I know some say that we should speak out, but I don't always see the good it does. Sometimes it's best to just lay low and do what you think is best.

  8. The colors are so pretty in all the pictures and I especially love your sewing machine and table with pictures of children and grandchildren, and the coloful threads. Looks like such a fun place to sew. You make pretty masks. We absolutely do need to pray for this world. Oh, love all the cute Cheeky Chickens too.

    1. Hi Henny, it is a fun place to sew... and there's a fireplace close by when needed. And my Cheeky Chickens are tired of waiting to be fired... really want to go to people's windowsills! ;)

  9. I do find it ironic too that no Parent is opposed to banning Peanuts at School... tho' Masks they lose their shit about if it becomes a requirement that might save Lives, go figure! I did ask one Parent of a Child allegedly so allergic to Peanuts that no Child can now have them on School Grounds... if her Child ever accompanied her to the Grocery Store. Why Yes, says she... and I'm just thinking of how many Nut Products are in THAT place and yet her Kiddos isn't falling out like allegedly he'd do at School if my Kiddo has a Peanut Butter Sammie for Lunch and he should be breathing Air in the Cafeteria that is Peanut infected? *LOL, sorry my Mind just goes to those places when something makes zero sense* How nice you're making Masks for people who want/need them. I just bought Two more at the Dollar Store that are Fabric and Halloween Themed, I figure this Pandemic ain't gonna nowhere for a very long time, so might as well have a good supply to rotate and make a Pandemic Fashion Statement. I do see more people wearing them suddenly, so perhaps a FEW more are taking this Delta Variant more Seriously? I Hope so, perhaps they'll even get vaccinated, otherwise our Health Care System is very near collapse already, so if it worsens, it ain't looking good.

    1. I know, why isn't not being able to eat PB sandwiches at school violating their children's rights?... because it didn't become a political issue... as the vaccine and masks have. People need to get their head out of politics and think about saving lives. BTW, if you'd like a free mask, I'd be glad to send you one. Can't guarantee how effective they are... but IMO, wearing one is better than doing nothing.
