a really good movie... and a gift?

This is an old movie, but one we love...  and this speech given was great.  There are so many movies out there that are so-so, but this is one of the greats (IMO anyway).

You've probably seen it, most people have, but it's one that we've watched more than once when we can't find anything else.

And I mentioned 'the gift' in this post's title. Well, we believe it was a gift from one of our feral cats (probably Miracle since she spends a lot of time hanging out by the front door and this was found by our front door this morning).

a dead baby snake

Cats have been known to bring home 'kills' and leave them for their people. The ferals have brought home many things over the years, usually toys (kids or pets)... and occasionally a squirrel tail. We tend to find them in the yard out back. But seldom do they leave them right at the front door. This is why we suspect Miracle. Perhaps she is thanking us for getting her through her difficult time this past winter...

Miracle

That's it for this Tuesday post. Hope you are all enjoying the week so far.  I tried a new recipe Sunday called 'whiskey glazed carrots'. Served it with potatoes and garlic/brown sugar glazed pork chops. It turned out to be a keeper!

  1. Rian, I loved that long quote. I have seen a lot of movies in my life, probably several hundred in the last 20 years, but this one does not ring a bell. Now you have me curious. Very much enjoyed the feral gift you got also, this is so weird and Goofy and Charming! I love me a little Miracle 🙂

    1. Dug, you really need to see "Second Hand Lions". I think it may still be on Prime... but not sure (we have the DVD). And we just started a new series that you may like (or already know about). It's called "Tracker".

    2. Rian, I don't have Amazon Prime but I'll still look for it. As for 'Tracker', yes it's on CBS & Paramount Plus and I've seen every episode. :^) PS. There's another show on CBS I love, from the makers of 'The Good Wife', called "Elsbeth". It's like a famale Columbo and REALLY good.

    1. Yes, they do it out of love... so, sad as it may be, you have to be grateful.

  3. Rian, I also have never seen that movie. I went to see if I can get it on Prime; it's for rent for $3.79 so here I go!

  5. My gramma's cats used to leave her a pile of dead birds by her kitchen door. Broke her heart to see the robins, cardinals, sparrows. But they just wanted to show their love.

  6. Yep, that's an excellent movie! So sweet of little cat Miracle to bring you gifts. In Oklahoma, they have rattlesnake hunts, and you're supposed to eat the meat like corn on the cob. Even with my upbringing in Okieland, I never had that opportunity. Miracle had to work pretty hard to stop that snake. Linda in Kansas

    1. Miracle (or Sneaky) are both small cats... so that baby snake was 'something' for them.

  9. I've never even heard of the movie, but then again, I find it hard to sit long enough to watch movies. I have heard bits of the speech of the years, but the pessimist in me wonders if the words will still hold true these days. We need Good to prevail over Evil!

    1. We think that movie is one of the lost greats... with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall.
And yes, we need good to prevail over evil. I think it will in the end... but we may have to go through a lot to get there.

  10. I absolutely love that quote, though I've never seen the movie.

And how sweet of Miracle, she's taking care of her "family." Though maybe not so sweet from your pov. Lol.

    1. Kim, you should try to see that movie. It's really good. And one of the cats took the snake and put it in their water dish?? We laughed thinking were they trying to revive it?
