Back to cute...

baby bunnies on daughter's bed

If you enlarge the pic and look carefully, you will see 6 baby bunnies; 3 white (one hiding under front black bunny) a salt & pepper bunny in the middle, and 2 black...

These are my 'back to cute' pics...

Not a lot else to say. Garden growing, but seems slowly. We did lose both the squash and the zucchini already - guessing due to the triple digit temps. But the rest looks OK.

My curly parsley has it's first caterpillar... (probably a Black Swallowtail)

Yellow &black caterpillar in the middle...

Actually I saw a 2nd catepillar on the other parsley just a little while ago... so I guess they've found the parsley. DH said to pick it off, but I haven't the heart.

It's time to head off to my dental appointment. How I hate those... and this is a new dentist. But it's only for a teeth cleaning (and yes, these make me nervous too). Will comment more about this when I get back.

Back from dental appointment. I liked them! It was an easy cleaning and I liked both the dental hygienist as well as the doctor. Luckily after x-rays, etc. he said that my teeth were in good condition. I am missing 2 on one side that I might consider implants or a bridge... but he wasn't pushing for either (I appreciated that).

Since we are on standard Medicare, we have to buy separate dental insurance... and the last dentist we had (although very good) was not in our insurance network. After spending a lot this past year, we decided that since we were paying for dental insurance, we really needed to get with one that was within the network. So-o when I pulled out my wallet to pay when leaving this new dental office and the receptionist said, "no, no charge today... your insurance should cover it 100%" - I thought, "YES!"

Oh, I'll close on a kind of funny note.  Last week I went for a haircut. Well, when I was sitting waiting for my turn, Shelley was cutting the hair of an elderly man. When he was done and was leaving, he stopped in front of my chair and just stared.

I looked up and said a hesitant 'hello'... and he said, "You look exactly like my grandma!"... (my first thought was 'wow, your grandmother must be old!')... then I realized he meant how he remembered his grandmother.  I didn't know what to say and I'm not good at spur of the moment stuff... so I just said, "Really?" and at that moment Shelley walked up and called me in.

Later I thought I should have said something. I wanted to say that I thought this was nice as I don't look like either of my grandmothers. One was born and raised in New Orleans and the other in London, but both died when I was a baby... but I have seen pictures. Anyway, I thought it was a strange occurrence.

A few funnies...

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. Rian I'm glad to read your dental appt went well--I get so nervous before my appts that my dentist prescribes me xanax to pick up from the pharmacy & swallow before seeing her! (I only took it once, it made me too druggy). That was an interesting read about that older man and you looking like his grandmother, haha--but I'm sorry you didn't know yours. My mom's mom was NO grandmother, she had... issues. My dad's mom--best grandma in the world, She was Normal Rockwell's grandma. Anyway, I know you're a pretty special one too. :^)

    1. As for the dentist, my heart tends to beat out of my chest just entering the offices, but it wasn't so bad this time... not sure why. I always tell myself, 'other people do this, I can too! (but I say this about dying too...)

From what I heard from my mom and dad, both my grandmothers were wonderful women... wish I had known them. I hope my grandkids remember me well... at least they can say they knew me. Glad you had a good one!

  2. I'm glad the dental cleaning went well and that you liked both the hygienist and the dentist. I white-knuckle it at the dentist, even for cleanings. (My usual hygienist is fairly aggressive and I always have a lot of tartar build-up, even though I go every three months and in-between am brushing and flossing umpteen times a day.) I do have to go for a crown in mid-July, though. It'll be my third: UGH! I have dental coverage through work insurance, otherwise I'd be up a creek. Even so, it's rarely at 100%, just depends on what it is (not crowns!).

As for that person saying you looked like his grandmother...I probably would have been at a loss as to how to respond as well. I knew Dad's mother when I was young, but when my parents divorced (I was 14) and I chose to live with Mom (because, duh), neither of Dad's parents had anything to do with me for years. But I do have fond memories of her before that; she used to spoil me rotten when we'd visit her in Montreal.

As for the baby bunnies, they are beyond adorable! ♥

    1. I guess a lot of people have dental anxiety... mine was caused (I think) by a dentist we had as children always saying, "this isn't going to hurt... and it definitely did".
The grandmother thing was strange... but I guess I might have asked the gentleman if this was a good thing (that I looked like his grandmother)? He seemed surprised, but I couldn't tell if he was pleased.

Thank you for the bunny cuteness and the funnies.

  4. Such sweet little bunnies! I am not fond of the dentist, either, and didn't go for two years during covid. I've been procrastinating going in for a cleaning, but I'll get to it soon enough. Glad you like your new place. Nothing we have is covered, so it's out of pocket. I wouldn't have known what to say to that man, either. :-)

    1. I'm glad to have that cleaning over and done... and that it turned out to be a good move. Dental work can be expensive. I wish Medicare paid for part of it... maybe one day.

  7. Still smiling about the bunnies. Nothing cuter and I really like that salt and pepper one. So glad your cleaning went well. I am so far over due thanks to Covid. Really need to make an appointment.
That would have thrown me too about the grandmother reference. My original thought would have been like yours.
Loved the kitty funnies. Me too raising my hand.

    1. That grandmother reference caught me off guard. I didn't know what to say... probably should have handled it better. And yes, I'm raising my hand too!

  8. The bunnies are adorable.
I'm terrified of dentists - it goes back to when I was very young and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Other than cleanings, I have to be put under as I've been known to pass out in the chair on my own. I need to make an appointment soon but knowing myself I'll put it off for several months yet.
I'm not sure what I would say, maybe thank you (I think it is fairly safe to say he loved his grandmother - most people do).

    1. I've been trying to get over my fear of the dentist... and have made some progress. This past visit my bp only went up to 135 instead of 170 - that's something.

  9. You can raise some swallowtail butterflies if you nurture those catepillars!

  10. Your bunnies are totally adorable. The caterpillars look rather like monarch caterpillars too. At least that what I remember they looked like when I was growing up. I no longer see them everywhere.
