thoughts on a Wednesday...

I had a dear friend who used to give me little 'mission' books... at least that's what I called them. She was more 'religious' than I (although I do consider myself spiritual). This morning I was reading one of her little books and thinking about her (she passed away in 2011 at 86).

I came across some passages that made me pause. It was referring to the times in our lives when we might be ill - whether with a cold or flu or whatever. And it hinted that perhaps this was a time when God was trying to tell us something... that perhaps it was time to close temporarily for repairs and renovation. Responsibilities can be shared and some things can wait.

Made me think of this pandemic. Perhaps the world needs to stop, close temporarily for repairs and renovation. Time to adjust our priorities, and put the beauty and wonder of life above life style and the world's economy (I know, I know... the economic situation is important and there are so many things to consider).

Don't want to get into any religious, political, or economic discussion. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Sharing my grand daughter's letters during this pandemic:

Since we can't get together these days... (her mom works with Covid patients), we write each other and Skype. It's been fun... although I do miss her hugs.

Little things, yes? But oh, so important...

  1. Wish my grands would at least email me. But I not so lucky. Oh well, it is what it is.

    1. I did initiate it, but she seems to enjoy doing it. We tried texting, but then she can only use her dad's phone for so long before he wants it back.

  2. It would be nice if we could slow down and use this time to help the earth. We have improved the air quality.
Those messages from your grand must mean the world to you. Love that they are handwritten. Almost a lost art.

    1. Grand daughter is in first grade... but yes, her letters mean a lot to me. As for slowing down, I think we have been made to do so.

    1. I agree, Joanne. It may be a forced repair and rest... but maybe that's the only way it will happen.

  4. Such sweet letters, ones I'm sure you will save. They will love to see them when they are grown. I love the gentle world you live in and share with me. It's so soothing. :-)

    1. Yes, I will save her letters. And I have some saved from my oldest grand daughter who wrote them years ago and is now getting ready to go off to college next month. They are moving into the freshman dorms - worries me some with all that is going on.

  5. The world seems to have needed a time of rest and reflection. My concern is that this will pandemic and social unrest will go on until the majority of people get that message.

    1. I agree that it will all go on for a while... but hopefully we will come out of it in a better place.

  6. The letters from your granddaughter are sweet. I feel so fortunate that I'm able to have my little guy as part of my bubble.

I agree with your comments that we need to slow down and let our world restore itself. Sadly that isn't the current mindset of many people...including some of those in charge.

    1. You are fortunate, Mae. And possibly the world will restore itself... if enough people get their priorities straight.

  7. Dear Rian, I always remember that for every thing there is a season. And what I try to do--often not very successfully--is to look for some good in whatever is happening and to embrace that, welcome it, be grateful for it. For me, the past months have been a season of learning to see with more than my eyes. As the Little Prince said, "What is important is invisible to the eyes." And so, I trust, deeply and commitedly, that some good for all humans will come from this time that happens only once in a 100 years or so. It is an opportunity for us to grow in Oneness. I so hope we all--at different paces--embrace it. Peace.

    1. Dee, good to hear from you. I was thinking about you the other day and hoping that you were well. I too hope and pray that some good will come from all this.

    2. Dear Rian, I'm visiting 4 or 5 blogs a day and slowly catching up. The cats enjoy the screened-in porch but the excessive heat doesn't allow them to stay out there long. Hope all is well with your fur persons. Peace.

    1. Debbie, I was brought up Catholic and have no problem with that... but as I've grown older I'm beginning to wonder if 'organized religion' is a good thing. I wonder if perhaps the times have outgrown the need. Not that it isn't good to have some spiritual support in life.
I can imagine how wonderful it was to spend time with your great nieces. The pics look like everyone was really enjoying themselves. I do miss the kids and grandkids.
