Read this recently and just wanted to share:
and an old picture I've shown before:
The weather is supposed to be going down to the teens and single digits Sunday and Monday here. So we've been putting out boxes and blankets for the ferals... as well as extra food and water. We also have a heat lamp on the back patio for them.
And definitely check your car motors before starting the car. Staying inside a warm car motor is dangerous, but the feral kittens do it quite a lot around here.
and...
I did need that hug. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Olga. ; )
DeleteThe weather is beyond nasty here, but we have the infrastructure for it, or rather most of us do.
ReplyDeleteIt's good of you to care for the feral cats, though I so wish they weren't out there at all. TNR programs are so beneficial to keeping the population low - though there will always be people who discard cats when they are no longer kittens or have medical issues.
Take care and stay warm!
Yes, I wish they didn't have to be out there at all too, Mae. And the catch and release program is good. We used it for years. But honestly, we've been here for almost 40 years and no matter what you do, there will always be ferals.
DeleteThank you so much for your care of the ferals. I hope you can all stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, EC.
DeleteWe're bracing for a blast of winter tonight and this weekend, but winter has been slow to start here. Stay warm and safe, I'm glad the ferals have you to look out for them.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim. Your winters are certainly worse than ours, but you're probably better prepared for them. You stay warm too.
DeleteAppreciated all the love and kindness in this post.LC
ReplyDeleteThanks, LC.
DeleteIt's wonderful you take care of all the kitties.
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard not to...
DeleteMy kitty became feral by accident and I have to smile at all the criteria she matches above. I still can't pet her. But I am very fond of her. She's a wise woman.
ReplyDeleteShe knows you are her friend, Joanne.
DeleteRian, you're very sweet and I'm lucky to know you. Those feral cats feel the same as I do. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dug... but it's something I CAN do... and there are so many things that I have no control over in the world. At the moment, DH has run off to find straw or hay to put out. It may keep them warmer than blankets.
Deleteyou have such a big heart!! you have made me much more knowledgeable about ferals!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I believe animals are sentient... some smarter than others (like humans), some not so smart, and some just want to be left alone to live their lives.
Deletei have been thinking about you in those cold temperatures that you are not use to. i hope you have a pot of soup on the stove and a good book to read. we are hunkered down, it got very cold here too!! i am use to it. we are suppose to get snow tomorrow, i have my snowflake socks on and my fingers crossed!!
ReplyDeleteWe did get snow... and 11 F temps - but didn't last too long. It's up in the 20's now, but getting ready to start falling again. Should all be over by Wednesday - I hope. Stay warm!
DeleteThat first poem is so beautiful, Rian.
ReplyDeleteI thought it 'said it all' rather well, Kay.
