an interesting Hallmark movie... and more

I know that many (mostly men, but some women) don't care for Hallmark movies (where there's almost always a happy ending - and generally end with a kiss). Personally I love them. So very tired of the shootem' up, blood and guts, killing, and crime stuff.

I do like a good mystery, some quirky detective shows (Elsbeth and High Potential), a little time travel (if it's not too out there), but generally prefer things like "All creatures Great and Small" (one of my favorites) and "Heartland".

But... recently we've been watching a Hallmark Time Travel series (yep!). It's called "The Way Home" and a little different from the almost always predictable story lines for Hallmark. You might try it and see what you think.

Nothing much else to say except my inside plants seem to be happy and doing well. Here are a few pics: (wish they were better pics, but  the glare from the sun is too bright this morning).

Mandrake, Ollie, Cat, and Sonny

Monty and Fiddle

I added that small white orchid (on the top pic) that was on sale at the grocery for $6. So far so good. I don't know much about orchids, so if there's something someone knows that will help me keep her alive and happy, please tell me. My others seem to be happy. I talk to them, name them, give them light and water, and play them music box tunes. They seem to like it...

The feral cats have brought home a few friends lately. The large grey one that we call Shadow brought home a big long-haired black that is now eating with us fairly often. And 2 black and whites showed up for dinner the other night.

Tom and Jerry (the 2 crows that frequent our front yard and occasionally bring friends) are becoming regulars... and are a bit pushy. They now fly over or sit in the tree and "Caw! Caw!" at us to bring out more peanuts. But we don't mind, and I actually caw back at them.

Oh, and a strange thing happened in the parking lot of the grocery the other day. DH and I were putting groceries in the car and there was a grackle (not a crow... longer, thinner) perched on a sign close to us. He was making all kinds of noise to other birds in the area... reminded me of a traffic controller. Anyway, as we were putting things in the car, I was 'talking' to him. He would stop, listen, and then continue his squawking. Then - right before we got into our car, he zoomed overhead and almost hit me in the head. I was amazed... like 'what was that for?' (weird)

Guess that's my news. Working on my next sketch. It's a rowboat on a sandy beach. Will get down to water-coloring all of them sooner or later (probably later).

Oh, and I guess some of you would like to hear our recent good medical news. After viewing my latest cat scan, the Oncologist told us that the nodules in my lungs have gotten smaller. This is a good sign. So he is recommending another cat scan in 4 months, but no lung biopsy now.  However, he is sending me to a Pulmonary specialist to see if these things in my lungs are inflammation or infection. Actually I'd like to know. Perhaps the mystery of my chronic cough will finally be found...

Closing with a few pics that I like:

someone's pet frog

This one reminded me of my youngest granddaughter's pet frog (Suki). We caught her outside my house one day and she's doing really well. I almost caught Suki a friend the other day... but the little booger got away from me.

This is how we feel these days...

And no reason for this one... I just like chickens!

Have a wonderful weekend... make yourself or someone else smile!

Hugs (virtual),

Rian

  1. I love your posts Rian. I am a fan of Elspeth and High Potential too. And I admit I watch a lot of Hallmark at Christmas. I like a happy ending, what is wrong with that!!!
Great news on the lungs! I hope you do get some answers. Those are some adorable chickens.

    1. Thanks, Miss Merry. Those chickens are so cute... for some reason, chickens always make me laugh.

  2. Wonderful news from your doctor.
I really like the broken crayon analogy too. Though these days I refuse to colour between the lines.

    1. Yes, really good news, EC. As for the analogy, I understand about the refusal.

  3. Very glad to hear from you Rian, I was so happy to read your latest medical news. Going to keep praying things keep heading in that positive direction. Enjoyed your plant photos and I confess, I dislike Hallmark shows but you have me intrigued with that time travel series.. I need to check that out, maybe even tonight. :^)

    1. Yes, I think my Oncologist (who we like very much) was glad to deliver 'good news'... he seemed happy. I imagine so much of his news may not be good.
As for the Hallmark movie, I understand (DH doesn't care for them either), but I think I read that this time-travel one was based on a real life event (the child disappearance part anyway... maybe not the time-travel part). But it keeps you guessing as to exactly what happened (which I find interesting). Hope you are feeling well again?

  4. That is good medical news for you. I like the chickens, they are colorful and look friendly. I bought myself a cute chicken tee shirt, some of them are wearing glasses. People like the shirt. I watch High Potential and the French version "HIP". Orchids are easy care, just give them a little food and water once a month.

  5. Did my comment go through as anonymous? If so and it mentioned my tee shirt with chickens on it, that comment was from me, Terra.

    1. Thanks, Terra. Sounds like you like chickens too. They are so funny... and personable. You need to post a pic of your t-shirt.

  7. This was such an uplifting post. I smiled to learn that you even name your plants and talk to them. And I love the Peanuts reminder. You are such a unique person, and I'm glad I get to know you through this blog. Sending you smiles and hugs and glad to know about your good medical news.

    1. You know, DJan, I read an article once about the wisdom of talking to your plants, etc. And I guess all these ideas are (what's the right word? maybe theoretical?).. so, I just go by my instincts. It feels right (but I may just be weird). Thanks for the smiles and hugs!

  8. yes yes, talk to plants, they definitely respond well! Orchids need very little care, the less the better appropriately enough! One water (about as much as an ice cube, but I avoid that cause the cold wouldn't please my roots if I were one) a week. I found repotting wasn't as easy as the youTube videos said...so just leave it where it is for a few years. Now I think I'll go ask my plants what they would like for names. Great news on lungs. And the parking lot bird might have been offended by what you said in bird talk! He just wanted you to know who was in charge!

    1. Barbara, I don't like the cold, so I'm with you about the ice cube... except maybe one wouldn't hurt if it was in the Texas summer? As for leaving the orchid where it is, I will for a bit... but it is a very small pot.
As for the parking lot bird, you may be right. I could have offended him. Think my crows laugh at me when I "caw" at them... but they answer.

  9. I'm glad to hear that your medical tests went well. I'm sure it would be a huge relief to learn the reason for your cough.
Your plants look healthy and hale. That was a weird grackle, I wonder what it was thinking.

    1. Thanks, Mae. I would love to know why I cough so much (or maybe not). And I too wonder what that grackle was thinking...

  10. i don't love hallmark movies...i watch them, but after a few they are pretty predictable and all have the same theme. we have been watching a show caller "tracker" and we really like it. it is a series but you can jump right in, one show does not play off the other, it's new. we are also watching the "amazing race" my favorite show of all time and it is only on twice a year and it is on right now!! great news on the medical front....and you have a very nice looking indoor garden!!

    1. Yes, Debbie, Hallmark movies are predictable, but sometimes that's comforting... and Hallmark mysteries I enjoy too. But DH and I do watch Tracker and like it. But we aren't into reality TV... only thing we watch that might fit that category is The Great British Bake-off. As for the indoor garden, yes, the plants are doing well. I haven't started (know I'm late) with my outdoor trug yet...

  11. I enjoy Hallmark movies for a change but I'm also fond of a good murder mystery or detective show. That's good news on the health front, biopsies are a pain in more ways than one.
