Apple, Cinnamon, Pecan Tea Cake

Apple, Cinnamon, Pecan Tea Cake

This week has been 'different'.  I cut off my long ponytail that I've had for the last few years and had a friend's hair dresser put in  highlights and lowlights into my almost completely white hair. And it's not that I didn't like the white hair, but its the 'washed out' look that bothered me. Now it certainly is different. Guess it was time for a change. Can't say I love it... but I don't hate it either. Every time I look in the mirror these last few days, I have to do a double-take and say to myself, "who is that?" But to be honest, the last few years I've said that a lot anyway.  Aging is a strange process.   One of my sons says he likes the change and that I don't look like a 'tree-hugger' anymore.  I told him that I kind of liked looking like a tree-hugger (since I was one).

At the moment I'm baking an Apple, Cinnamon, and Pecan Tea Cake. The recipe sounded wonderful, so I decided to give it a try.  If it comes out looking good, I'll post a picture (it did, and I did).  If it tastes wonderful, I'll post the recipe (haven't tasted it yet).

We have family coming to visit in a few weeks, so I've been dusting areas that we don't use much (like the front room with the fireplace in summer). This morning I took down all the little knick-knacks and china, crystal, etc. that sits on our old hutch/china cabinet and dusted it. I love going through these things as they all have a history or a story (something that had once belonged to a close relative, or was given by a dear friend, or brought back from a trip, etc.)  As I said, I don't do this often, but when I do, all the memories come rushing back.  Used to have 2 China cabinets full of this type of thing... but gave one away... too much to take care of.  But I've kept this one. Guess one day I'll have to give it away too... but not yet.

Cats laying around while I dust room...

  1. If I could teleport, I'd happily taste-test that cake. It looks divine.

Regarding hair: Mine is high-lighted right now, but hasn't been done for 4 or 5 months. Shades of blonde and copper, but I'm not happy with that anymore. My natural colour now is rather mousy (mousey?) with plenty of strands of white. I don't mind going grey, I just don't want to look dowdy. I hope to be able to get highlights + low lights early next month. Something closer to my own shade, so that as the added colour fades and grows out, it doesn't look so noticeable. I can envision not bothering with colour in the not-too-distant future...if it doesn't look drab. That's when you really need a top-notch style and cut, and flattering shades of clothing.

If you have free time, YOU can teleport over to my house, with a dust rag. LOL. I'm not big on dusting, which might be why I really haven't many knick knacks left. :-D

    1. I agree with you and I never minded going grey either (white in my case), but in pictures (recent DL photo)I look so 'washed out'... like I'm fading away (which I guess as we age, we are?). Anyway, this isn't full color, just highlghts and low lights - but it does look 'different'. We'll see how it goes.

I understand about the 'knick knacks'.

  2. The teacake looks yummy. Too bad the cats cannot be trained to do the dusting, but then they would probably just trade fur for the dust anyway.

  3. With 6 cats in the house, we spend a lot of time sucking up cat hair... but that's the price you pay for all the love they bring. And we just tasted the tea cake. I'd give it a 9 - very moist and not too sweet. (Now if it had chocolate or coffee or both in it, it would probably get a 10)
