nothing much...

Sonny and Sammie - 2 backyard feral cats

Along with Fluff, the handsome black and white cat that I featured not too long ago, these 2 neighborhood wanderers are who we call Sonny and Sammie. They do romp about the neighborhood, but can be generally found out in our back area.

As you can tell, I'm scrambling for something to post today. Today is day 30 of our 'sheltering at home'... and although I spent the morning making a few masks for my cousin in New Orleans, I'm finding today a bit tedious.

Walked around the house looking for something to photograph. Came up with these few things...

The first 2 pics were my mother-in-law's treasures and I inherited them when she passed .

The third pic is a miniature harp that I picked up when we had season tickets to the Dallas Symphony (before retirement).  We used to go on Sunday afternoons.

I did Skype with my cousin in New Orleans yesterday. She had never tried Skype and since I've done it all of twice, I was showing her how it worked. She's 2 years older than me... and I'm 3 years older than our younger female cousin (also in New Orleans). Our moms were 3 sisters who spent most of their time together... so us three girls spent a lot of time together growing up. I do miss them, but we keep in touch (by text and Facebook). And I try to spend some time each summer there... (not this summer though).

New Orleans is having a hard time with this Pandemic. Not that other places aren't... but per capita it's hit them hard. Mardi Gras probably didn't help. From what I read this past week, Texas has had about 14,000 cases with about 300 deaths... whereas Louisiana has had about 22,000 cases and more than 1000 deaths.

Well, I didn't plan to bring all that up.

Tux and Julie by the fire

Can we just go back to early December... when we still had Tux and Julie... and were clueless about this Pandemic?

Sorry this wasn't much of a post. But I'm trying to post every 2 days so that if we run out of things to do at home, we can at least read blogs.

Take care, stay home, and be safe!

Hugs,
Rian

  1. You have the most wonderful treasures!

Today is day 28 or 29 for me, and all I can say is that I hope we all get through this with health and sanity intact! Oy!

    1. Thanks, Kim. They are just 'things'... but are cute and hold memories. And I too hope we will all get through this somehow.

  3. You are wrong about the post being "nothing much." To me, these are lifelines to normalcy. I'll bet you miss your sweet kitties, I know I miss them and I never even petted them once. Keep these coming, Rian. They are gems. :-)

    1. You are kind, DJan. But I too find so many little things are lifelines these days. And sometimes I come across pics of Tux or Julie (15 years of pics) that just do me in...

  4. The treasure with the rabbit on top is a gem. A miracle it is all together yet.

    1. Reminds me so of my mother-in-law. We need a miracle - that's for sure.

  5. I still grieve the loss of my pretty kitty Tahoe, who has been gone for over three years now. I find myself going back in time when she and I played. Oh, and your ceramic mamma kitty & kittens is so purrfect...telling us all not to cry over spilled milk...life goes on & the young ones will be there to help clean up.

    1. Anni, I guess like everything else, certain things stir our memories... and sometimes it brings a smile, sometimes a tear.

  6. Sometimes we need to just sit with the sadness. Thanks for posting.

    1. I don't think I'm good doing that, Olga... so I try to keep busy. Being sad scares me - must be a weakness of mine.

  7. I do not know what day we actually started sheltering. I do go out about twice a week to get mail from the post office and once a week to shop...if I don't triple order online. So not sure how long we have been avoiding people. The news today says masks are going to be important for at least a year or until a vaccine arrives!

    1. I remember because it was right around St.Patrick's for us. They were worried about the virus, but went ahead with the Irish Festival here. I remember thinking how this wasn't such a good idea. Your triple order was funny (probably not to you)... I could easily do that. And yes, I think we will be wearing masks for quite a while... just to be safe.

  9. I am glad you have your feral cats to give you joy. They look quite prosperous thanks to you. I really liked the ceramic mother cat and kittens. Hootin Anni said quite well what I was thinking about the spilled milk.

    1. Patti, the ferals (as well as our own Ghost) do bring us joy. Hard to explain but watching them play and enjoy the spring weather is heart-warming. They are not care-free as there are coyotes and bobcats about... but still they adapt.

    1. Debbie, I find it comforting to handle things like that... remembering who they once belonged to.

  11. Every day seems to blend into the other in this required isolation. If it weren't for my FitBit I don't think I'd know what day it was. But we will get through this somehow.

Love the kittens and the spilled milk. So cute!

    Take care and stay well!

    1. I know. My iPhone tells me what day it is and what needs doing that day. I made potato salad to go with some ham steaks tonight... that was probably the highlight of my accomplishments today...
