Fluff... an outside feral cat

One of our outside ferals (doesn't he have the sweetest face?)

This is him again...  He is a long-haired black and white that was brought here by his mom along with his 2 siblings (another black and white and a long haired black) when they were about 6 weeks old. The other two show up in the yard on occasion, but this one (we call Fluff) stays close by most of the time. He is an extremely happy go lucky young cat that flies around the back yard jumping at bugs and rolling on his back.

He is always happy to see either of his siblings, but gets really excited when his long haired black sibling shows up. They cavort around the yard like two kittens and make us laugh. And we really need to laugh right now!

fox in the hen house

Finished my first little fox (for this round). Can you see him there in the middle?  The Cheeky Chickens don't seem too disturbed. Will start under-glazing them all next week...

It is cold outside this morning (43 F). I really wish it would warm up and the sun would come out.

Oh, and I have a new supply of books to read! My friend who downloads books to her kindle downloaded a new batch of mysteries for me (I have her 'old' kindle)

And another good friend (who buys from Amazon) dropped off a bag of books this week. And... I downloaded one from kindle and ordered one from Barnes and Noble (which arrived yesterday).  So... besides writing the sequel to my Time After Time, I'm catching up on my reading!

Hope you all have a safe 'Stay at Home' Saturday! I love sharing these little bits and pieces of our life with you... and reading about yours. We are really all one big family... and we will get through this together! Stay well!

Hugs,

Rian

  1. I love those little chickens and the fox is lovely. I have never tried anything to do with clay I'm not sure if I would like it. Someone described me once as being a clean crafter, meaning that I don't like to get my hands dirty. lol
Are you going to paint them Briony

    1. Working with clay does get a bit messy, Briony... but I don't mind. And I don't paint the chickens... just under-glaze their combs, waddles, eyes, and beak... then fire to bisque, and then blackbird to get that antique look.

  2. All your reading opportunities makes me somewhat jealous! I have several books going at once. I start reading one, then start another.

Love the beautiful kitty! I want it. But, I'm sure Isaiah would have his say in a definite "no". lol

And your back yard birds are just as important as ANY bird. If you ever post about them with photos I'd be glad to add your link to your post. Glad to help. (Anni @ I'd Rather B Birdin)

    1. I go from having loads to read (like now) to being totally out of reading material (at which time I reread some of my favorites or start writing my own). Fluff is a beauty. He would make someone a good pet. But he is feral, born outside and is about a year old now. He will come close, but doesn't want to be touched.
As for my bird pics, if I come across any I think worth posting, I will... not sure at the moment where they are (in boxes or on my computer). Thanks, Anni.

  3. Fluff is gorgeous! What a handsome cat he is. Makes me wish he were tame and could have a wonderful forever home, but he has the second-best thing, I guess, with all your food, shelter and care.

I love your fox. I can see why, from his sleeping pose, the chickens aren't perturbed. :-D

Yay for all your reading material! I can't seem to focus long enough to read anything these days. I have tons of unread books and magazines, just no motivation.

    1. My little fox isn't interested in the chickens... and they are oblivious. As for reading material - reading is a good distraction (especially these days) but then you have some beautiful places to walk and take pics. And at home you have Derry!

    2. Fluff has such a cute face and personality. I hope he continues to do well outside. We had a large coyote in the backyard just a few days ago. We chased it off and luckily there were no cats in the back at the time.
Yes, my little fox isn't interested in the chickens... and they are oblivious.
Reading is a good distraction in today's world, Kim. But of course you have beautiful places to walk and take pictures -

    1. Thanks, Linda. Since I have a flock of chickens, if I continue with the foxes... I looked up what a group of them would be called. Apparently it is a skulk, leash, or earth (?)...weird! Since foxes are usually solitary and you don't see them in groups much, I guess these names are not generally heard. If I had to pick, I would say 'skulk'.

  5. What a gorgeous cat! For a feral he looks very healthy, you obviously take good care of them.

Have fun with the foxes. Take care and stay well!

    1. Thanks, Mae. And yes, Fluff is well fed... probably at other houses too... but he does stay in our yard a lot (smart!)

    1. Foxes they say are solitary, but this one is going to have a few friends.

  7. OH my gosh, that cat looks sooo much like our Scooter (except for the tail, Scooter doesn't have one anymore). I was just shocked to see the picture!! -Jenn

    1. What happened to Scooter's tail Jenn?

    2. The vet thought it was caught in a fan belt (perhaps) of a vehicle. It wasn't pretty, he had to have surgery to have it fully amputated. He functions absolutely fine without it, but it was a magnificent tail!

  8. Fluff is definitely a sweet kitty. And I am so glad to hear you are inundated with books. That is a good place to be in a pandemic that has no end in sight.

    1. Yes, I'm excited about my cache of books too! I hope you are doing well. Looked for your post this morning, but didn't see it. But it's still early... so I will check again later.

  9. So glad the fox in the hen house is not a scary thing but looks quite normal. Fluff is a cutie and doesn't seem the least perturbed by all that is going on. Ah to be an animal now.

    1. No, the outside ferals seem to be oblivious to the pandemic... as least as far as I can see. Ghost, on the other hand, still seems a bit 'off'... may be the loss of Tux and Julie or the fact that we are all home 24/7 now and this confuses her.

  10. I love Fluff. I am a cat person, have been all my life. So, I'd adopt Fluff in a minute if he'd let me.
