Sunday morning thoughts...

front window Sunday morning

I was enjoying the sunny view from my front window this morning.  Actually I was watching a little green lizard sun himself on one of the outside bushes. You can't see him, but thought I'd share the view. The sign at the top of the window says "Welcome" with the picture of a black cat etched on it.

This is another view of our backyard taken a few days ago from the kitchen. It was in the evening when the sun and shade made the yard so appealing. There's a black feral cat sitting out there to the right.

Life continues during this 'stay at home' period. We're more than willing to follow the CDC guidelines which simply advise us to stay at home and wear a mask if going out. We walk the neighborhood on occasion (wearing our masks), but don't walk as often as we should - due to pollen allergies. I think most of us use home delivery or curb-side pickup for groceries... and that's about the only outing we get.

I think the younger generation (50 and under) find this lock-down more difficult than us (baby boomers plus) for many reasons. They are more locked in to their get out, eat out, etc. habits, and they  more than likely need to work to pay for groceries, etc., And  they have young children in the home all day with them who need to be home-schooled! I can see how difficult it must be for them.

We (retirees) may have more vulnerability due to age and underlying conditions (although I think all ages seem to be vulnerable), but we have learned to live on a fixed income and stay home for the most part. We miss being around family... and I really miss hugs,  but these are small sacrifices to make for everyone's safety.

I know that some are protesting for things to open up and I understand that they need their jobs to pay for food, rent, etc. for their families. But I guess I don't understand how their families will survive if these same workers contact the virus and die... or bring it home to their children.

This pandemic is so widespread that I'm not sure there is a right answer. Guess we must all do what we think is best.

This is a lacy baby blanket that I started working on a while back... and need to finish it.

This is a small one I finished.

And this is another that is heavier and will be larger (more of a crib bedspread) - but using the same yarn and a single crochet stitch.

I saw both of these on Pinterest and want to make them in my yard!

Have a wonderful Sunday! And as always, thanks for reading. I hope you are all staying home and staying well.

Hugs,

  1. I know it is the weekend because the construction crew is not out there doing street repairs. It's very quiet.

  2. Your backyard looks like such a peaceful oasis. What a gorgeous property.

You have lots of projects to keep you busy, with the blankets/throws and your sculptures. :-)

I could be doing a lot of things in my non-work hours, but I have no motivation. I think I'm just trying to get through the days. I'm used to being on my own here and quite solitary, but not 24/7 for weeks on end. I must say, I *don't* miss the rush to get to work and the long bus rides (after work especially), jammed packed with students. I live just over 5 km from work and my daily commute is almost 2 full hours (inclusive). So not having that has been a big plus. I also like having the time to do the weekly chores, bit by bit through the weeks--again, no rushing to get everything done in a short span of time. Another silver lining for me.

But overall, I'm more than ready to be able to get out again, interact with people in person. This week our province's premier will be talking about the plan to slowly reopen businesses. We're still in the thick of things in the province overall, though thankfully not so much in my city (knock on wood for good luck). Saskatchewan and New Brunswick have plans in place now, but their infection rate (and population) have been much lower than Ontario's (and Quebec's). I don't think things really will relax until there's a vaccine, though. Still a long time to go for that, I imagine.

    Take care; stay well.

    1. Kim, sometimes it is hard to get motivated... but I feel better if I make a list and then check it off as it's done... sometimes rewarding myself (maybe making teacakes today?). And I bet you don't miss the commute back and forth to work. So there's some good coming out of all this craziness. Take it a day at a time (that's what I keep telling myself).

  3. The views from your windows are so serene and beautiful AND oh so green! We're not there yet but I can see the neighbour's lawn across the way is starting to green up.

I love the idea of the dragonfly stones. Pinterest can be such a rabbit hole but so full of interesting and creative ideas.

    Take care and stay well!

  4. I am convinced that having nature in your own property is a big help for staying sane and content. Your views are lovely and soothing. Your crochet projects are beautiful and remind me so much of my late mother-in-law. Like you, she was an avid crochet artist. As her health declined and her right hand began to give her problems with arthritis, she was determined to complete not one, but two afghans for each of her great-grandchildren. She had already crocheted afghans for her two sons, her daughter, their spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses, and various great nieces and nephews.

    1. LC, I'm definitely not a crochet artist. Mine is pretty basic stuff. But it does make me feel good to create... no matter the medium - (yarn, clay, stories, etc.)

    1. Yes, so many projects go unfinished. Now is a good time to correct that.

  6. BEAUTIFUL crochet work! And Ghost is beautiful too. Ya, I'm one that questions all those that have to get out and perhaps catch the virus & take it home to children. Not to mention making a living...'cause the stimulus checks are not going to last but a month.

Anyway...now I need to make those stone ground sculptures for here!!

  7. Nice crochet projects, Rian. I am thinking that might be a good thing for me to return to, but I just cannot seem to generate much enthusiasm for it. And then I see something like your handiwork and reconsider. I like that picture of Ghost. :-)

    1. DJan, I usually crochet while watching TV at night. It gives my hands something to do.
As for the pic of Ghost... Ghost doesn't 'play' much, so I was throwing a small quilt over her and watching her walk around with it on her back. She would act aggravated with me... but continued to return for more.

  8. Your back yard looks so private and peaceful. I really like those in ground stone animals. What a great idea. You are right, this pandemic is a learning process and we just have to wait to see what new they have discovered each day. Till they get it right, I am covering up and social distancing.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I'm not that handy with knitting and crochet, but I can follow a simple pattern. And yes, it's a good thing to be able to do during these days of sheltering at home.
