3 a.m. post...

my crazy EKG

Well, here I sit at 2:56 a.m. drinking a cup of Irish breakfast tea and a slice of toast and butter... but I'm not complaining as I feel fine (actually better than I've felt in a long time). DH and I went to bed at 9 and I read until about 11, then fell asleep and woke up somewhere between 12 and 1. After that... just thoughts running through my mind - mostly good ones, memories and such. But finally I thought that perhaps some tea and toast were needed, so here we are.

I mentioned that I'm feeling better than I've felt in a long time... probably should explain that. Lately my energy level has been a bit low. Even though I sleep well (usually I read until about 11and sleep until about 7:30 or 8:00), but never feel too great in the morning - sort of weak, coughing, and a bit shaky. This goes away in an hour or so, but still...

I have been taking Vitamin D-3 because at one time I was pretty low, but last checkup showed a distinct improvement. Still low in B-12, and haven't done anything about that yet. Doctor told me I could take some over the counter B-12 - something that dissolves under your tongue (?), but I haven't tried it. Do any of you take this?

It could be just age. But if that's it, why do I feel 'normal' right now... like if it wasn't in the middle of the night, I could get a lot done. Hesitate to do much at this hour as it may disturb DH and grandson who are sleeping.

Also I've been thinking about adding a navigation heading across the top of this site. Not sure exactly how to do this, but know it can be done as I've seen it on other's sites. If I did this, I could add some of my short stories to my blog for anyone who was interested in reading something (if they're awake at 3 am and needing something to do?).

I will play around with this idea and see what develops. If you have any suggestions regarding how to do this, I would appreciate the help. I tried going to layout navigation, that didn't work. I tried adding pages, that didn't work. Not sure what to try next.

Also, since our Aga is up and running, today I finally made the dark chocolate pie I've been craving. Here's a pic. It's made with unsweetened Baker's chocolate and it's so-oo good... not sweet, just rich! We use whipped cream on top, not merengue.

and lastly, I'm going to see if I can put a short video of my avatar on Animal Crossing here. She's exercising on the beach in front of her house on the island.

I'm not sure this video will work, but I thought I'd give it a try...

(it does work, just click on the arrow twice)

She can also swim in the ocean, have coffee in the coffee shop, visit friends on other islands, etc.

fun game!

Closing now. Thanks for reading!

Hugs (virtual),

Rian

  1. Rian, do you normally sleep the whole night through? I was just asking as I go to bed around 11:30, read until midnight & get up around 7:00. But I also get up 2-3 times a night to visit the bathroom. I'm very sorry you wake up with little energy, but I still envy your sleep. Anyway, that dark chocolate pie looks so delicious I had to swallow a couple times fast! I've been trying to avoid sweets, but I'm going to try baking one of these and SOON. Finally, I see you have a 'Home' button at the top under your cat collage. You could create a new blog page (or several), add your stories to it, give it a title like "My Stories" and it would appear beside your Home link at the top.

    1. No, Dug, I also get up 2-3 times at night most nights, but generally go right back to sleep. There have been occasional nights where I've slept the night through, but these are few and far between.

And I've looked far and wide for a good dark chocolate pie that doesn't just taste like chocolate pudding. This is it for me.

And I'm going to try to create a new blog page (?) using it - but I tried last night and it wasn't working. But I'll try again. Thanks

    2. Rian, this is going to be my next blog a pictorial tutorial. Working on it now, will be posting it in a couple days if you still are looking for help. 🙂

    3. That would be great, Dug. I'll be looking for it.

  2. It seems your internal clock is deciding to do its own thing. My daughter has similar issues - she tries to nap while her son is at school, because he goes to bed early and wakes early each morning as well.

In any event, as long as you are feeling well at 3 a.m. and enjoying your tea and toast, it all sounds fine to me.

    1. Oh, the 3 a.m. thing doesn't happen too often, so I'm not really worried. And being retired, I can always nap in the afternoon. It's just strange to me that mornings are so low energy these days... and sometimes muscle achy or headachy for the first hour or so.

    1. Isn't that avatar the sweetest thing? I will try to video her swimming in the ocean or having coffee in the Bistro. She also goes to other islands and helps others create their vacation homes.

  4. What a yummy pie! I have no advice on a navigation bar or adding stories, but I would love to read them if you figure it out! I am a night owl. I would get a lot done if I could make noise in the early morning hours.

    1. I haven't figured it out yet, but I will eventually. Meanwhile I'm going to just put my stories directly on my post... in parts. You are certainly welcome to read... or not.

  5. Haven't the foggiest about the navigation heading but it would be a neat idea. Good luck. I did take B12 years ago sublingual (under tongue) and that is the best way to take it outside of injection. Higher drug levels are achieved in the bloodstream by sublingual routes than by oral routes.

    1. I think that I will try the sublingual B-12... and just see if it helps. I'm not much for taking supplements. Seems to me if we eat at least half way healthy, it should be enough.

  6. You do use pages and put their names in tabs across the top of your blog.

    1. Joanne, I know you have this on your blog... but how do you do it?

  7. I used to take supplements for years, haven't for the last year per the naturopath's instructions. However, I will go back to taking them, though more likely sublingual at least for some, rather than via pill. I think trying the B12 is worth a shot, Rian.

I see someone will do a tutorial about adding pages to your blog. It's not that complicated, though Blogger has made it a bit less intuitive now, IMO. Good luck with that!

Your avatar is great. She does more exercise than I do a lot of days. Haha.

    1. I actually thought I'd added pages to my blog before... with Cheeky Chickens... but perhaps not. It shouldn't be complicated, but when I go to the 'pages' and click, nothing happens. I must be doing something wrong.
My avatar does my exercising for me! (just kidding ;) ... actually she swims in the ocean for me too!)

  8. I love your avatar and see her exercising like that is adorable. I tried pages once and didn't like it much. Now I just try to be as simple as possible. :-)

    1. I agree... about the simplicity. Will see how it goes. May just stay with my main blog and add a story or two occasionally.

  9. I take d3 and zinc every day, it's supposed to help avoid covid.
I can just feel my indigestion coming on looking at that pie. lol. Once I would have loved it but my system has had enough of rich stuff. lol

    1. Oh, Briony, I have been on gluten-free for a year now... and it seems to be good for me. But I do cheat on occasion (like with this pie) and it doesn't seem to hurt. I do love a good dark chocolate pie and a 1/2 cup of Columbian coffee - and don't do it but once (maybe twice) a year.

    1. I have a strange EKG in real life... so this one made me laugh. As for the pie, it may not be B-12, but it did lift my spirits!

    1. Me too, Kay! But it has to be a good chocolate pie... not just pudding in a crust.
