life goes on... little things

This is our new hotplate.  Since the Aga is still out of commission, we have been using the microwave, toaster oven, and grill to cook. It works pretty well, but still needed something to just heat up water or saute onions, etc. It can be done with the other equipment, but doing one thing at a time can be time consuming. This way I can cook several things at once.

It works... but I could use more counter space.

Next pics are at my daughter's place...

Leo the bunny - still around

And the following are just 2 pics I pulled off either Facebook or Pinterest

If you use Facebook or Pinterest, you may have already seen these, but I thought they were interesting enough to share...

Got her yellow belt this past week

Granddaughter was over yesterday after school. She and I played Animal Crossing on our Nintendo Switches. My avatar went over to her island and we exchanged things that we both needed, but our islands didn't provide. Then we played games - her avatar hiding out on the island and mine trying to find her, then she would bury a gift somewhere on the island and I had to find it... and vice versa. Then I explained to her how her avatar could visit other islands in her dreams.  It was fun...

Guess that's it for today. Nothing too important (not when you consider the bigger picture  -  Russia and the Ukraine) - just life as I know it.  But thanks for visiting!

Hugs (virtual),

Rian

  1. I needed some light fare, and you have provided it. I love the bunny tree but had to look for it. And congrats to the newly belted artist. And I'm so glad to learn the other bunny is sticking around. :-)

    1. It is "light fare"... with the world going to 'hell in a handbag' (as my mom used to say) and I'm going on about hot plates, etc.
As for the new bunny, oldest granddaughter will be home from Texas A&M and youngest is going to the hill country to visit for Spring Break - and both are anxious to see Leo!

  2. Those rescue cats are lovely, and appear to be on decent terms.

    1. They do well together. One was found at a gas station, the other on the college campus. Both were kittens at the time. The orange one is Gizmo and the mostly white one is Penny.

  3. The rescue bunny seems quite content and that bunny tree is amazing. Yeah, I like bunnies.
Congrats to your granddaughter on the yellow belt. Well done.

    1. Yes, Leo seems to be happy to be inside and well taken care of.

  4. If you'll pardon the pun, the Aga sure is temperamental! I always like your posts Rian... glad to see you're doing okay.

    1. Dug, actually the Aga isn't temperamental at all. It has no knobs, stays on 24/7 and has only 'been down' twice since 2005. The problem however, is getting parts when a little thing like a valve leaks... have to order from England. This is the longest we've had to be without it in 17 years! And really miss it's warmth!

  5. i would think you would definitely need a hotplate, i'm not sure i could do without my stove!! your daughters barn door is really lovely and congrats to your adorable granddaughter!!

ukraine, my heart breaks for those people and here we are complaining about the price of gas. we should be thankful we have cars to put it in and homes to heat with it!!

    1. Debbie, I've learned very original ways to cook things without my stove. Do you know you can hard boil eggs in both the microwave and the toaster oven? And I learned to cook bacon in the microwave, etc. However, I couldn't figure out how to cook pasta in either and that's why I got the hot plate. (There probably is a way...)
And I know what you mean about us complaining about gas prices when people are being killed and driven from their homes. But I have to admit that the gas prices are a bigger problem for those who use their vehicles for work then it is for us retirees.

    2. answering the question you asked on my blog: long story about the spoon. when i was very young, i loved receiving mail, i still do. you may remember this, oneida (sp) tableware allowed you to send away for one spoon, for 50 cents so you could see the pattern and decide what you liked before you bought a whole set. so i use to send away for spoons, for 50 cents, i could afford that, and in turn, i would get mail. i still have 3 of those spoons and i love them. a "happy" memory from my childhood, i don't have a lot!!

  6. I enjoyed reading your blog. My youngest son took karate. I never knew until we started karate that there were so many types. I am considering putting my granddaughter in karate. It's good for kids who get distracted easily. - Your kitties are a handsome bunch too!

  8. Congrats to your granddaughter!

Leo looks like he has his forever home, so sweet. So are the cat. That's a great catwalk, the beam. :-)

I sympathize with the lack of counter space (for you, temporary I presume), as my "kitchen" is 7'x8' with barely any counter at all. LOL.

    Take care.

    1. Yes, they have a 2 story log house that the previous owner built himself... so lots of beams! They also have a sort of bunk house on the property that they have renovated and their college age daughter moved into it when she graduated high school - to have her own space for herself and friends when she comes home. That's the beam you see in the pic - in the bunk house.
As for the counter space, we don't have a lot compared to some, but it's adequate. My problem is I like to have everything out and handy - and not hidden away.

  9. Congratulations to your granddaughter! I suspect Leo isn't going anywhere either. He looks pretty darn content.

Hopefully your Aga is repaired soon, but it seems you've figured out how to manage without it temporarily.

    1. Yes, Mae, we can manage without it, but miss it terribly. My kitchen was always so warm and cozy... I miss that. But we did hear that they got the part (finally) and should be out sometime next week to take care of it.

  10. Oh, I enjoyed every picture and word. I love the sweet bunny on the bed and the bunny tree is amazing. I miss my bunnies and really want another one. Congratulations to your granddaughter. She sure is cute. What a nice looking hotplate. Gosh, I didn't understand a word you wrote about the games you and your granddaughter played. :) I am so far behind! That's why I still carry a flip phone.

    1. Henny, the Animal Crossing game my granddaughter and I play on the Nintendo Switch is the only 'game' I play. It has got me through the pandemic... by putting my Avatar on a deserted island and enjoying the fishing, swimming, catching bugs and butterflies, as well as planting crops, and cooking dishes, etc. She and I visit each other on our islands. It's a relaxing game... and I'm not much for playing games (not even cards). But I love to walk by the ocean and listen to the waves as well as swim in it (when I don't even swim in real life). Sorry, TMI...

  11. Dear Rian, thank you for this posting that shares life as you know it. I think that's what we all can do for one another, that is, bring to light what contents us--then perhaps the peace of contentment might spread beyond the bounds of the hubris that Putin is displaying. I think he wants to be Peter the Great and to make serfs of the Ukrainian people. Delusions of grandeur brings tragedy for one and all. May we share the peace we know.

    1. I know it seems too simplistic to post about ordinary things when the world is on the verge of war and people are suffering. But it helps me keep my peace and sanity in an otherwise insane situation. I do pray for the Ukrainian people and for Putin also - that he comes to realize that this cannot end well.
