my Tuesday and Wednesday...

I like this...

Biting the bullet and going to eat at a restaurant with our youngest son this evening (Tuesday). We're going early (at 5pm - old folks time) before it gets crowded and this particular restaurant has high backed booths... so we feel fairly safe. His wife and daughter are the ones visiting our daughter (his sister) in the hill country... so he's on his own this week.

Also the serviceman for our Aga is coming tomorrow. With any luck, we will have our cooker up and operational in 24 hours. It takes about that long to heat up to where it needs to be (the 2 hobs and 4 ovens). I just pray that the ordered part fits and all is well.

We also did our Crime Watch Patrol this week. We missed doing it in February... either bad weather or whatever. There are about 5-6 of us that patrol our area and we each try to do it once or twice a month... driving down alleys and looking for anything out of the ordinary. We have a list of the houses and phone numbers and several "Crime Watch Patrol" magnetic signs for the truck.

The only thing we've ever seen 'out of the ordinary' when patrolling was someone once left a whole ham lying in their driveway! When we called them (which we do if we see any garage doors left open with no one around) about the ham, they said it must have fallen out of the car when unloading groceries (?).

this really is me...

Updates:

We did go out to eat with our son yesterday and it was fine... very few people in the place at 5... food was good... conversation was great.  Only 2nd time we've eaten in a restaurant in over 2 years. It was a nice treat (and I didn't have to cook... enjoy cooking, but there is a limit).

The serviceman for our Aga did come out this morning. And hallelujah! It's alive again!

And since tomorrow is March 17th - St. Patrick's Day,
 I can't not say

"Happy St. Patrick's Day!"
(as I am an O'Regan and my great grandpa was from Cork, Ireland)

and

Hugs (virtual),
Rian

  1. Happy St. Patty's Day one day early! What a whole lot of fun those notices are. I love them all, and thank you for the lovely poem at the end. :-)

    1. You are very welcome, DJan. The Irish have so many sayings, it was hard to pick one I really liked.

  2. I'm not sure why but I laughed out loud at that ham in the driveway! That's cool about your Irish heritage Rian, and HOORAY FOR THE AGA! My favorite thing on this blog are those feral cats, but my second favorite is your Aga. :^)

    1. That 'ham in the driveway' is the only crime watch patrol story we have (of course I guess this is a good thing). And we are all so happy to have our Aga alive and well again.

  3. Amen the Aga lives. Wow, it was sick a long time. How cool to actually eat in a restaurant and glad it went so well. Best thing about that is not only not cooking but someone else cleans up. The Irish half of me will be totally enjoying tomorrow. My English half will just have to put up with it. No one can do blessings like the Irish.

    1. You are right about the cleaning up after cooking... didn't have to do that Tuesday evening. You mentioned your Irish half and your English half, Patti... My paternal great grandfather was Irish, but my grandfather and dad were born in London and my grandmother was English, Eleanor Fredericka King. They did move to the US in 1920, but she died before I was born. Would have loved to have known her.

  4. Hooray for the return of the Aga!

I'm sure it was lovely to get out for a meal especially with your son. It's always a joy not to have to cook and clean up afterward.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! My father's ancestors hailed from Tipperary County - someday I'd like the chance to visit there.

    1. Thanks, Mae. Happy St. Patrick's Day! My girlfriend and I visited Ireland in 1998. It is beautiful country... hope you get a chance to go.

  6. Glad to hear the Aga is repaired! I totally believe the ham story. I used to work for our county extension office. Every Monday we would get telephone calls about groceries found forgotten in cars over the weekend and is the food still good. We had copies of advice from the USDA we would read to them, but my motto has always been - when in doubt, throw it out! I would think that you would miss an entire ham while putting away groceries!!!

    1. I know... Miss Merry... a whole ham! But who knows?? Hopefully it hadn't been out there long. But I agree with you, "when in doubt, throw it out!"

  7. Happy St. Patrick's Day! (Love that tee-shirt.)

Woohoo! Congrats on eating out in a restaurant! That's something I've not done since June 2019, but then I don't eat out anyway...though I do a LOT of take-out/delivery!

Also congrats on having your Aga working again, that must be such a relief.

As for that ham, I'm surprised a critter didn't make off with it! It would be very strange not to notice it missing when one is putting away groceries. That's definitely a head-scratcher. LOL.

    1. I love that t-shirt too!

And it was so nice to eat in a restaurant after all this time. (glad there were very few people there though) Really nice to have someone else fix the food and bring it to you! We don't eat out much in normal times either - maybe once a month for a treat. Now I appreciate it more than ever.

And yes, it's great having our Aga back!

With all the craziness going on in the world, it's nice to be able to appreciate these little things...

  8. so nice that you went out for dinner and to hear that your aga is working again...hooray!!! a lot of our restaurants have large pieces of plexiglass separating booths, i know that because my mom (88) eats out all the time. who knows if anyone cleans it!!

nice that you all take care of things with a crime watch!!

    1. Well, we aren't ready to eat out too much yet... but it was nice for a change. Not having the option over the last 2 years certainly makes you appreciate it more when the opportunity arises.

  9. Glad you got out to eat in a restaurant. We have only done take-out and a couple of outdoor venues when we were south. But let's hope there are many more restaurant meals in our future. Btw, County Westmeath for my great grandfather.

  10. That first picture looks like Banksy’s work. I’m so glad you had such a lovely meal with your son. I feel so much safer when there are those high backed booths. Just want to wish you a very Happy but belated St. Patrick’s Day!
